I personally use AGPL, which is often seen as one of the strongest, most restrictive, licenses.

Good choice, I use it as well, but please keep in mind that AGPL is not restrictive

Are there any WYSIWYG html editors? just curious

Hello, i was looking for a wysiwyg html editors i could use for my personal website, perferrably just as a simple open source desktop program on linux (though anything else is fine). i DID find something called KompoZer but i was wondering if there's any other ones, thanks

I think that libreoffice writer can save document as HTML

starman ,
@starman@programming.dev avatar

PopOS would be better (IMO)

starman ,
@starman@programming.dev avatar

I really appreciate that they're working on new desktop environment. I'll probably switch from Hyprland to Cosmic once it's available on NixOS

@starman@programming.dev avatar

Yeah, but sort of unofficially... I wait for this: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/259641

maleandroids , to Firefox
@maleandroids@mstdn.social avatar

why does @firefox have trackers like Adjust in it? that's rubbish from a browser that is supposed to be privacy and user friendly

starman ,
@starman@programming.dev avatar

I recommend LibreWolf instead of Firefox

X11 is a protocol too. Xorg is the binary you are talking about

starman ,
@starman@programming.dev avatar

Aux is more similar to Nix, than Guix is.

Guix uses the same concepts, but still is very different.

starman ,
@starman@programming.dev avatar

You can contribute to Nixpkgs without GitHub account

Why not dual-license?

Copyleft for true FOSS experience or paid option for companies.

starman ,
@starman@programming.dev avatar

It's not open source. Only source available unfortunately.

There is no guarantee that play store build contains the same code as GitHub repository. Ideally you'd need to compile apps yourself.

But most of the time stuff like vaultwarden is trustworthy enough.

The need for a Fedi Union.

tl;dr I propose a Fedi Union consisting of the developers of Phanpy, Pixelfed, Peertube, Lemmy, and PieFed. That will work as a way to fund all of the services collectively (with the option to still go to their individual patreons and fund them seperately) and as a way for them to communicate to help all the services be more...

starman ,
@starman@programming.dev avatar

Good idea, but It would hard to cooperate efficiently when there is money involved. And I don't think that Mastodon devs would join this union.

On the other hand, I believe that separate organisation focused on interoperability, long-term goals, defending from Meta, etc. would be great.

Exactly!

A Spy Site Is Scraping Discord and Selling Users’ Messages ( www.404media.co )

An online service is scraping Discord servers en masse, archiving and tracking users’ messages and activity across servers including what voice channels they join, and then selling access to that data for as little as $5. Called Spy Pet, the service’s creator says it scrapes more than ten thousand Discord servers, and...

They don't care about ToS as long as you don't use 3rd party client

starman ,
@starman@programming.dev avatar

I have a website that shows up when someone searches my name on the internet and an email there. This way people are able to contact me and I don't have to use any spyware like Facebook.

But whether that works for you depends on your threat model, I guess.

starman ,
@starman@programming.dev avatar

Is it just a bare bones website

No, it's more work-oriented/portfolio type of site and it's hosted on Cloudflare Pages under my domain.

But in this case, bare bones website would be sufficient

Filesystem Hierarchy Standard

/bin, /dev, /home and all that stuff

I've been there for like 2 weeks in 2023 and I'd say that 4chan is way worse

starman ,
@starman@programming.dev avatar

On Android, when an app needs something like camera or location or whatever, you have to give it permission. Why isn't there something like this on Linux desktop? Or at least not by default when you install something through package manager.

COSMIC DE will be in alpha soon. It's written for Wayland, in rust

  • Discord? Not working (probably because of TOTP)
  • Facebook Messenger? Not working (probably because I use it without Facebook account)
  • SMS/RCS? Not working (looks like it requires Google account)

Seems like it's not ready yet

Every distro could learn from Arch Wiki

There is on-device Signal bridge option in the settings

Do you use Nouveau or proprietary driver?

Edit: nevermind, I misunderstood OP

starman OP ,
@starman@programming.dev avatar

LibreWolf does that automatically. I highly recommend it.

starman ,
@starman@programming.dev avatar

And 2.0 will support Android and iOS

starman ,
@starman@programming.dev avatar

I don't know, but probably soon. They release beta versions already.
