Codeberg is relatively new, gitlab sucks, I’ve never heard of notabug. That’s why. People want their open source projects to be found and contributed to so using what the most popular makes sense. Although i do love codeberg and I’m glad it’s being worked on so well.
Is that the only difference? That feature doesn’t seem great tbh. I’d love a wiki on lemmy though especially one that integrated to the point you can one click add a question + answer directly to the communities wiki
I used to use Protonmail, however the verification steps become tedious when creating unique emails for sign ups. I've switched to Tutanota despite it contravening their one account policy. What do you all use for one off emails (for sign ups etc )? Or do you prefer one of those 10 minute email sites?
How does protonmail make it tedious? I use ProtonPass and it creates a new email for me in one click and I dont pay for protonmail. Every newsletter or account i register uses a new email that are forwarded to my protonmail
I downloded the app since it mentioned i can make a personal wiki with it but the ui is pretty damn confusing. Anyone understand how to make a wiki with it?
The fediverse has less than 10M users. Tiktok has a billion. It doesnt compare. Its like saying we should allow banning newspapers or radio because people will still share information over phone calls
No they wont theyll go to instagram reels since it already is a tiktok clone on an app they already use and already has an algorithm and an infrastructure and is easy to use. Theyll just be fed alt right and anti vax propaganda now instead of all the leftist in depth videos with sources on tiktok that consistently go viral
Ghost is a huge publishing platform, and a sizeable rival to Substack. By adopting ActivityPub, they are opening up to an entirely new audience, and harnessing the power of the Fediverse.
I have an extension that can individually disable all the most useless/addicting components of the Youtube site, such as shorts and whatnot. On the search page, I have turned on:...
They currently allow unlimited vods that are hours long that provides zero revenue. They could disable that and instead allow 30 minutes of edited vods or video uploads and have ads on them to make money
tl;dr I propose a Fedi Union consisting of the developers of Phanpy, Pixelfed, Peertube, Lemmy, and PieFed. That will work as a way to fund all of the services collectively (with the option to still go to their individual patreons and fund them seperately) and as a way for them to communicate to help all the services be more...
Like i said in the OP that doesnt mean anything. Theres barely a million monthly users on the fediverse as a whole currently. They have a billion users just on instagram. They will dictate how the space runs if we try to rely on just blocking them
Did you read the OP? Defederating won’t solve anything theres barely 1 million monthly active users on the fediverse. We have to make better apps than facebook so people want to leave from threads to the open alternatives
It would help make the apps compatible with eachother making them better so people would actually care to switch from threads to open platforms and it would help fund them. Like i stated in the OP
The company sucks and it being closed source with shitty security and privacy policy sucks but the software is still the best messaging, gaming, video/streaming experience if we’re being honest. Nothing has all the features and convenience when it comes to watching shows and gaming with friends. Theres also never been such an easy way for anyone to run their own irc/etc server with as many features and convenience/price as discord.
They are fulfilling a lot of needs and people won’t leave until something 10x better comes out and nothing is even at 1:1 quality in terms of video, voice, streaming, gaming. Some have messaging and history yes but not even bots and different channels/forums setup. Maybe MAYBE telegram if you’re a super user but and thats only for bots and chats no gaming, watching shows, etc
I kinda hope they change the software to also be called codeberg. Its sich a good name and forgejo is so difficult to say and have people know how to spell it
But why would i post my music on a platform i can’t make money on and that has little to no discovery features? The site can barely be used without logging in and i haven’t seen any compatibility with mastodon to take advantage of activitypub and reaching new listeners
I’m glad proton isn’t wasting their money on a money sink that seems to open security holes. If they’re going to take a risky bet on something i rather they make a premium Linux phone
I formatted my PC recently and I'm reinstalling some stuff I forgot to make a backup of settings like yt-dlp so I started searching for what is a good config to download the best mp4 quality and found some interesting setups so I figured I'd make a thread for people to share what they use....

Because windows is more open source than mac os? How many designers use linux? The Mac os screenshots is their target audience of designers and plenty of mac users prefer open source apps
I realise this is a known issue and that lemmy.world isn't the only instance that does this. Also, I'm aware that there are other things affecting federation. But I'm seeing some things not federate, and can't help thinking that things would be going smoother if all the output from the biggest lemmy instance wasn't 50% spam....
Why would there be? Old threads can be very useful after years and discussion can continue especially with software related threads. I find lots of bug fixes for stuff on reddit years ago that gets updated by a single person posting years later with a fix for something on the subreddits that dont annoyingly auto archive “old” posts
I use Arch Linux, and some apps require me to use Windows. I have tried to get Wine working, but it's just too much of a hassle. I created this project some years back and the project just reached v1.1.0. I know most people have jellyfin servers and all set up, but if you have just a local folder of all your series saved up, you can use this to remember what you were watching....
This looks great! Only thing id say to add is instead of just watch random episode, watch random show/movie but if its a show continue where you left off.
If you ever plan on adding a watch with friends feature you might be interested in Multiplex which lets you stream media with your friends and have the play/pause sync up https://github.com/pojntfx/multiplex
Do you think that the fediverse has something to gain with the enshitfication of discord? Are there voice chat programs in the fediverse that can benefit from it?
No screen sharing or even video calls iirc. Soo many people use Discord to watch stuff with their friends or to play games with their friends. Matrix is more of a irc replacement imo it doesnt have any gaming focused features and the Forums on discord are nice too
