wouldn't risk-v be worse in terms of standardisation? At least for advanced functionality

morrowind ,
@morrowind@lemmy.ml avatar

Don't think so, websites themselves have to implement pwa's, you can't force it client side

I got a withings for this, though after 2 years it stopped charging, been an expensive paperweight since. It should be fine for you if you treat it like it looks - I tend to be rough with my watches.

Been watchless since, had my eye on fossil but :(

Pebble was a real one, nothing has matched them since

Well video is about regular people, not us

morrowind ,
@morrowind@lemmy.ml avatar

Have the devs already said they're not going to incorporate these into settings? Otherwise it feels like duplicate functionality

Man google is really falling to the mbas lately

morrowind ,
@morrowind@lemmy.ml avatar

point of a vid is to see it in action. Ignore him reading the article and just read it yourself then watch the demonstration parts

To be fair, if you read the interview with one of the workers, they tried many less disruptive approaches before turning to a sit in. I don't they risked their jobs without reason.

I'm upset about the people supporting google's right to make money over any ethics. I'm upset at the idea that employees should have no say in what the company they work for does. I'm upset at people who think this is a good thing.

The specific repercussions they faced is another matter. But no, I don't think they were fair. Quote

Yeah, this was retaliation, like completely indiscriminate—people who had just walked by just to say hello and maybe talk to us for a little bit. They were fired. People who aren't affiliated with No Tech For Apartheid at all, who just showed up and were interested in what was going on. And then security asked to see their badge and they were among the 28 fired.

They had to reach out after the fact to tell us, hey, I was impacted by this.

morrowind OP ,
@morrowind@lemmy.ml avatar

If my company was helping perpetuate world hunger and I blockaded their office, I hope to God you wouldn't be gleeful at me getting fired

I kinda made that word up lmao, it's not in the dictionary

I still want something push based (without paying for those rss as a service)

The delay is there because email has no deletion support.

And a host of other shortcomings.

I'd rather we replaced email with matrix

morrowind ,
@morrowind@lemmy.ml avatar

If you’re relying on the remote server to delete something, you can’t trust it no matter what protocol you’re using.

I mean yeah I wouldn't bet my life on it, but for the 99% of regular communication it's fine. That's no reason to not have it in the protocol and muck around with 10 second delays instead.

To maintain focus — as well as comfort on trackpads — simply clicking any region of a window while holding Super will allow dragging it to your preferred location and quickly get back to your important task.

Curious why you chose super instead of the usual alt?

Oh TIL, thanks

The channels, which could also generate additional revenue through ad incorporation, would differ from free, ad-supported streaming alternative services like Pluto TV or Tubi, as they form part of a subscription service.

Welcome back cable TV I guess.

I don't know even know what else to say, I'm just so tired of this

Rule of thumb is don't judge anyone by their discord

morrowind ,
@morrowind@lemmy.ml avatar

er, do you have an example. This is not a trend I was aware of

nicco loves linux also apparently made a good video, I just saw this one first

Good. This is the better overall solution

Note-taking app that looks too good to be true? - Siyuan

Recently stumbled upon this note-taking app called SiYuan, but it honestly looks a bit too good to be true(?). Has anyone here used it or got any experience with it? Trying to replace Obsidian is a difficult task, and I've been through almost all note-taking apps there are out there, however this one looks fairly similar....

morrowind ,
@morrowind@lemmy.ml avatar

I've tried it on and off. It appears to have more potential than obsidian in some ways, but obsidian's plain text files are hard to beat^1^. If you're willing to put in more effort into your notetaking, especially if you're a programmer, it may be worth it. It has nowhere near the plugin ecosystem at the moment obviously, not being as popular.

Compared to logseq, which I haven't tried super extensively, resource usage and performance are much better, on par with obsidian.

Also a lot of the interface and plugins are in chinese, so if you don't read that it can be a bit of a pain.

[1] siyuan is markdown too but but it's stored in a database, not your filesystem.

Count yourself lucky because discord desktop is one of the worst pieces of crap I've ever used

morrowind ,
@morrowind@lemmy.ml avatar

I may get flamed for this, but having having algorithmic recommendations would be good. The ones we're used to suck because they're designed to maximize metrics like engagement for advertisers, but it is entirely possible to have one that's user focused and can be turned on/off as users wish. And it doesn't have to be some super complicated thing out of the box

morrowind ,
@morrowind@lemmy.ml avatar

Damn, I was looking to make one of these couple months back but when I asked most people said they were uninterested so I stopped

morrowind ,
@morrowind@lemmy.ml avatar

Maybe. It may have been ambitious for the time. I've been working on simpler projects in the meantime

For the average user this is like a minor annoyance like once a month. Not worth switching OS's over.

It feels like every new android change now is taking something from Samsung 7 years ago, but making it 5 times the size

will set up some free antivirus and ad blocking right away.

Those mfs have got a way to go if they're setting up free antiviruses. Free anti-virsus will hurt your system probably more on average than actual viruses

morrowind ,
@morrowind@lemmy.ml avatar

It's kind of hilarious though, when I'm bored I sometimes just browse the comment of some controversial topic on phoronix, to watch users get into the most vicious, time consuming arguments over pointless things. The fact that it's interspersed with random engineers from AMD or whatever makes it even better

Does Reddit shadowban mentions of Lemmy?

In the months since I deleted my Reddit accounts and joined Lemmy, the lack of user base growth has made it clear that we need some users to stay on Reddit as a means of shepherding more users over on an ongoing basis. Otherwise, Reddit simply got what it wanted: less users who make a fuss about how it manages its platform...

morrowind ,
@morrowind@lemmy.ml avatar

At most they suppress them, no shadowbanning. There's a whole lemmy subreddit https://www.reddit.com/r/Lemmy/ and it gets mentioned on r/RedditAlternatives all the time

downloading emails and storing them locally for offline reading, categorizing, searching and drafting. "Caching" usually just means if you opened the app with connection, it won't go bonkers and will probably let you finish your immediate task + some basic functionality if you lose it. Can't close the app though.
