It doesn't say what license they are going to use, so it may not be open source. The wording is very weaselly.

RobotToaster ,

One thing to be aware of, at least when I've tried it reports do not federate from Lemmy to kbin.

Dude saw the "u like socialism, move to vuvuzela" memes and took it as a suggestion.

Asked last week if any of Kennedy’s health issues could compromise his fitness for the presidency, Stefanie Spear, a spokesperson for the Kennedy campaign, told the Times, “That is a hilarious suggestion, given the competition.”

That's hard to argue with tbh.

At times the mastodon people sound like Alex Jones, only it's "techbros" instead of "globalists"

Would Lemmy Benefit from Implementing Polls? ( slrpnk.net )

A popular way of dealing with discussions, and familiar to most people, I assume. As far as I see it, adding a poll system to Lemmy is a good way to enhance user engagement. I'm not really aware if this has been a topic before or not, tried looking it up but didn't see much juice on the topic, so thought I'd spark it up....

One way encryption, same way passwords are stored.

Open polls are one of the few good things about Facebook.

RobotToaster ,
@RobotToaster@mander.xyz avatar

Potentially, but any amount of obfuscation opens up the system to abuse.

If you trust the server hosting the community to handle all encryption, it's trivial for the admin to disable.

If you trust the server sending the vote, then it's trivial for a server admin to game the system and send hundreds of votes.

How is he controversial? the only negative thing I've seen about FUTO is the proprietary license grayjay is under.

I'm shocked they sold enough of those ugly things to make a million bucks.

Are there any innovative platforms in the Fediverse?

I've explored a few platforms within the Fediverse, but most of them seem to be inspired by and mimic existing mainstream social media platforms like Twitter, Reddit, and Facebook. While this familiarity can be comforting, I can't help but wonder if there are any truly innovative and original platforms out there that offer a...

https://thirdroom.io is based on matrix, not activitypub, but it's trying to be some kind of federated 3d world.

I've considered doing something similar myself, honestly it would come down to which one has the best libraries/frameworks for it.

I have a phone with one, it's just been a neat toy so far. I do know someone who used a USB-C module version to track down wasp nests though.

Oddly, despite being older, the resolution of the infiray "camera" in mine is 256×192, higher than the FLIR unit in this phone.

No, it's proper thermal, like predator vision, just doesn't let you see through walls unfortunately.

Night vision security cameras use near IR, thermal is long wave IR.

How do I setup my own FOSS shopping website for my business?

Hello, I don't have much experience in self-hosting, I'm buying a ProtonVPN subscription and would like to port forward. I have like no experience in self-hosting but a good amount in Linux. I'm planning on using Proxmox VE with a YunoHost VM. I already have a domain name from Njalla. I'm setting up a website for my computer...

This isn't surprising, it wasn't that long ago one of their executives said he opposed gay marriage. They absolutely just see their users as cash cows.

The need for a Fedi Union.

tl;dr I propose a Fedi Union consisting of the developers of Phanpy, Pixelfed, Peertube, Lemmy, and PieFed. That will work as a way to fund all of the services collectively (with the option to still go to their individual patreons and fund them seperately) and as a way for them to communicate to help all the services be more...

I doubt it would work, the piefed dev seems pretty hostile to the Lemmy Devs (who run .ml, iirc) https://mander.xyz/post/12037820

That seems like an open admission he wants to harm "young adults"

The deal has always been that targeted advertising is how you pay for a free service.

FTFY.

The adverts on free websites for a very long time were not targeted.

bots creating fake accounts: decoy email and password fields on your registration form helps reducing the number of fake accounts.

could this cause accessibility issues for screen readers?

RobotToaster ,

mCaptcha is a proof of work pseudo-captcha, it won't block bots completely, but it heavily rate limits them and makes them computationally expensive to run.

the tl;dr is: he asked nicely for the source code and they gave it to him?

It's a shame they don't embrace federation and open source more, the drama it would create would be fun at least.

I agree, both of them seem like a bit of a dick.

Although the blogger doesn't appear to be a journalist, so things like "right to reply" doesn't legally apply, it still seems like like basic good manners to offer that to someone if you write a hit piece on them. The comment section on blogs were traditionally a good tool for that, but the blogger seems to decided to not have one on his site.

RobotToaster ,
@RobotToaster@mander.xyz avatar

I don't think you can simply say something tantamount to "I think you're an evil person btw pls don't reply" then act the victim because they replied.

If the CEO had been sending multiple e-mails etc, I would agree with you that it's harassment, but from what I can see at any point the blogger could have just disengaged, but he seemed more interested in getting the last word in.
