proper and improper cunts alike are in shambles

prettybunnys ,

Linux is not enough, that’s a dated mindset.

Most viruses these days are mobile in nature which gives you a 50% shot of which *nix you’re on. You’re either on a Unix like os based on MacOS or heavily modified Linux kernel.

prettybunnys ,

It doesn’t break apt, apt just prefers snaps now.

This is as they designed it.

The issue here is that people don’t like this other thing and so the distribution which has been moving towards this other thing for like a decade now I guess is the bad guy for continuing to work towards that goal.

prettybunnys ,

GitHub isn’t.

The code on it is.

You could use gitlab, or something else.

prettybunnys ,

Red Teams, they exist.

Just like QA it doesn’t “make money” so why bother?

prettybunnys ,

I agree whole heartedly, the “it doesn’t make money” argument is common and the fight to do proper QA is rarely won.

prettybunnys ,

RIP Audiogalaxy the best music sharing/discovery service ever.

prettybunnys ,

If we’re being honest every release without this status bar being the tail unfolding OR the tongue extending to catch a fly is a waste.

Got a new windows 98 gaming PC, and boi she's huge!! ( lemmy.blahaj.zone )

I've gotten really interested in old Computers since I got my Commodore PET 2 months ago, so to play some good ol MS Train Simulator and Stronghold 2, I got this massive beauty. Here is a little size comparison between it and my main PC...

prettybunnys ,

If I had to guess:

1 is a dvd drive.

1 is a high speed cd-rom read only drive

1 is a cd-rw drive

prettybunnys ,

That’s not an optical drive friend

prettybunnys ,

Sounds like after decades of giving folks the run around the professor at the college had to shut down their operation.

Should I learn Docker or Podman?

Hi, I've been thinking for a few days whether I should learn Docker or Podman. I know that Podman is more FOSS and I like it more in theory, but maybe it's better to start with docker, for which there is a lot more tutorials. On the other hand, maybe it's better to straight up learn podman when I don't know any of the two and...

prettybunnys ,

Docker is more ubiquitous, Podman has use cases that diverge from Docker.

Discover the use case and decide from there.

That said docker is a good starting point, their documentation is pretty great and once you know docker you’ll better appreciate why podman is different.

prettybunnys ,

So we’ve poked a hole in your knowledge here unless this super popular open source software really requires 777 on those files and everyone has collectively just been ok with it.

prettybunnys ,

As an admin I’d question why the CTO has a login on a production server.

You would do well listening more when you ask for advice.

prettybunnys ,

Oh no, entitled asshole who talks down to everyone who has an answer for them blocks me. Whatever am I to do.

prettybunnys ,

Dockers documentation is actually pretty good, I’d recommend taking a look at it because it’s written really well and can be used as a decent primer on learning to read documentation.

I would recommend learning docker / containerization. For your use case you likely won’t see a big benefit HOWEVER it is a good technology to know.

As far as the “why” you’d use it there are too many to list but for your use case the why I’d argue is “just so you know how to do it” and you’ll come up with your own why along the way.

Simplest why beyond “it’s a good technology to know” is that updating an app is as simple as pulling a new container and relaunching it.

Piracy is so confusing these days

It was so easy when I was growing up. I would just type my search into LimeWire and if it turned out to be weird porn I would delete it. Then we had The Pirate Bay, and I could go through reviews to see whether something was a virus or not. Now all public sites I am aware of are riddled with viruses, and I am warned that...

prettybunnys ,

Yeah.

Chechen war videos were not fun to get when you were looking for porn as a teenager.

New to Linux? Ubuntu Isn’t Your Only Option ( www.howtogeek.com )

Ubuntu's popularity often makes it the default choice for new Linux users. But there are tons of other Linux operating systems that deserve your attention. As such, I've highlighted some Ubuntu alternatives so you can choose based on your needs and requirements—because conformity is boring.

prettybunnys ,

“Targeted at regular desktop users”

prettybunnys ,

I really feel like you’re missing the idea of that sentence deliberately.

What Linux distribution came before Ubuntu that was specifically designed to be user friendly for a non-technical user?

prettybunnys ,

I’m holding on the the car I bought in 2019 until I can do an electric conversion on it.

I don’t need a NEW car.

This is why you chop them into bag sized pieces first

Wot The Fsck You Say, Spotify? ( lemmy.world )

Edit: A couple times I've said eBook while I actually meant Audiobook. I've learned that Spotify has a 15 hour limit per month for their free 'included in premium' audiobooks. However these are the two books I listened to for free, and even rounding up to 13 hours it doesn't make sense, unless they count accidental chapter skips...

prettybunnys ,

Yo always check out your library first before piracy, if you can get it free and traffic your library you ought to

(Just cuz libraries are dope)

prettybunnys ,

First things first, run the command you want to run and provide us the error output.

prettybunnys , (edited )

I’m not seeing your error output but I do see your paraphrasing of the error output.

Idk if it’s my app not showing it or what.

It was the Memmy app everyone, shame

prettybunnys ,

Are you using markdown or something?

My app is only showing “Not OP, but this looks like the error message” and nothing else.

we’re out here troubleshooting all kinds of shit

prettybunnys ,

Yes, and that is the nail in the coffin of the Memmy app for me.

Thanks!

prettybunnys ,

Memmy App on iOS and it doesn’t seem to show code blocks. Lame

prettybunnys ,

6 month estimate would be a fission weapon boosted with tritium to increase the neutron flux and be a general very big bomb.

Yeah but where are they gonna get a turbo-encabulator with a strong enough frammersham that can properly (and in a stable way no less) counter the non-ionic grametes?

prettybunnys ,

I find myself commenting on “older” posts fairly frequently, I’m not actually upset at there being “less” content.

This place feels like Reddit did 15 years ago.

It does have voice input.

99% of apps on Apple TV have the same kind of login option.

If they don’t, it’s on the app developer to implement.

Maybe you ought to take the stance of not talking about something you’re unfamiliar with. Every thing you’ve pointed at has been wrong.

You’re not a fan of Apple, that’s your stance, you’ve made it clear, just stop there.

prettybunnys ,

How did it change when they launched appletv+?

Which remote is better?

prettybunnys , (edited )

This is so wrong it is unhinged.

AppleTV+ is a subscription service to Apple content.

It’s a separate app, you don’t even need to have it installed.

You’re saying this new app and service they added, which don’t change the interface at all, has somehow ruined the interface?

What does the changed remote have to do with anything?

The center of the directional pad works like the old panel remote and they added the circle everyone complained about them removing.

And wtf does the butterfly keyboard have to do with the remote?

prettybunnys ,

Yeah but again that is on the app creator not the Apple TV.

Apple implementing a really nice keyboard using your phone to work around the app developer being lazy should be considered a bonus not a “well why didn’t they do this other thing” which is what I’m saying.

prettybunnys ,

I’m kinda drunk given its New Year’s Eve but I am 99% sure I could find and implement a QR code based authentication method in short order if I tried.

Plex does it, everyone else does it, in this day and age there’s no reason why you can’t generate a token and then a uri and then a QR code if you are able to handle the rest of it.

Again, how is it on Apple or any vendor for that matter, to be on the hook for them?

if they really wanted they could use Apple based oauth

For arbitrary text input id ask you to point at any other remote / UI that handles this limitation better.

prettybunnys ,

I feel like this was something back on windows 7 for some reason

prettybunnys ,

Sure, but at the point you’re doing that the allure is lost on a lot of folks.

Why boot to two when they only want to play a game and one does it without needing the other.

This is an answer to a question that wasn’t posed.

prettybunnys ,

That’s kinda weird, I develop on a M2 Mac and use docker all day, I haven’t tried podman on my m2 but I used it on my previous i7 MBP without any issue for a project I was on.

I use my own mouse and keyboard and the same monitor setup I use for my personal computer.

This just doesn’t track at all.

mind you I literally have tux tattooed on my body

Now that we're finally out of reddit, can we finally get different tag for NSFW and NSFL?

For the uninitiated, generally NSFW is for sexual contents and NSFL is for gory contents. People may want to see one but not see the other at any time for any reason. I have seen this feature requested over the years in Reddit but it never happens. Maybe now some instance can finally implement it?

prettybunnys ,

Don’t be a contrarian for a second and think of the why yourself, it’s easy and good for your brain!

prettybunnys ,

In case anyone wonders, lizard people means “the Jews” in context.

They don’t actually think there are lizard people, they’re just extra othering Jewish people.

prettybunnys ,

The intersection of the people who believe in actual lizard people and those people who believe “Jewish people are lizard people” is probably 1:1

1 year ago and were my top social media sites. Now I don't even contemplate returning to either. The has completely scratched those itches. Between @elk and @syncforlemmy, nothing is different from a UI perspective. Community is healthier in the fediverse. So thank you to everyone here who builds out infrastructure, tooling, and community for the fediverse. I appreciate it.
