I did think of that too after DOS failed, but from what I can find there only seems to be a floppy based installer for it? Since It doesnt have a working 3,5" drive, I can't install it via that. That or have I overlooked something while looking into it? Is there a way to burn it into an SD Card?

I did try to see if leaving the partitioning part out changes anything, and still nothing. Same thing as before. Also tried not changing sizes, same thing sadly.

As for the other 2 points, im afraid that I don't have the knowhow yet as to how to check those...

As far as I can see, the only one of these relevant to my XT Based PC-10 III would be the classic version which reads

For classic hardware: FreeDOS 1.3 includes a floppy-only edition! This edition should run on any original IBM PC system, including the PC, XT, and AT. Provides versions for 720kB, 1.2MB, and 1.44MB floppy disks.

Since it says its a floppy version, I'd asume I'd have to burn it onto a floppy and then install it? Or can I burn it onto the SD and then somehow boot it into the installer directly?

I'll do once im home in around 7 hours! In the mean time, I can definetly say that what the Video shows is 1 to 1 the same thing I saw while working with both programs and I followed them to the Pixel if that helps

Just got around to taking some screenshots.

First I press the "Flash from File" button and choose the DOS6.22 Ultimate .img

Then I select the Target, which is the SD Card

Then Lastly I press the Flash button and it does its thing

Then I'd usually move onto the Partition Wizard.

Something odd I just noticed is that even after all the flashing and stuff, the card retains its original thumbnail saying "SD HC", would've thought that be gone by now, could that be an issue?

No there wasn't any documentation that was delivered with it sadly. Though seeing that in the tutorial it showed much of the same text on Boot up, i think its safe to asume the card itself works fine. Someone else in the thread mentioned that it might not work because its an HC SD card, which probably can't be read by the adapter, so tomorrow im buying a normal SD card to try it tho

Yeah I'm getting a different SD card tomorrow. One thats notably not an HC SD card, which someone noted to probably be not compatible with the adapter.

Nope, nothing. There doesn't honestly seem to be anything I'd use it for, even then I wouldn't wanna support it as long as it uses Data its gotten by basically stealing. Maybe once that has gotten better I'll look more into it, but at the current moment I just don't have the heart to support it

They take what we make, be it art or Text without our or anyones consent, to me thats stealing something. And yes, there are AI Tools fully build on public Domain and open source things, but those are at the moment, few and far between.

Whats the best Universally usable CRT Monitor for computers all trough the 80s and 90s?

With my little Computer Collection ever growing, I think its time to get myself an actual Monitor to use these Machines. So im wondering, what Monitor has most if not all Connection Types and modes of operation to be compatible with most/ if not all Computer from the 80s till the 90s?...

Heh I already got a SyncMaster which I've been using as either my third monitor or Retro Computer Monitor of choice, though since its a Flatish Screen and a different format I've been looking for something more CRT yknow

Im aware that its likely more of an app issue, but Universal GIF and Video Standartification is a must at this point. There is literally nothing more annoying than that and I genuinely see it as Lemmys current biggest hurdle. We can't be a proper site or competition to other simular sites if something like GIFs and Videos basically never work properly.

Around where I live thats a pretty okay deal for these machines, especially considering I also got the original Commodore PC Keyboard which on its own is worth around 100€ here.

The memory does seem sodered in. Reading trough forums, I did find a potential issue, that being the battery. Seems rather krusty to me, and they are known to cause these types of issues and errors

The filecard seems to be only cinnected via its slot and for some reason 2 cables for the lights at the front of the machine.

Still doesnt boot even after taking everything. Though I did order a new battery which probably will fix it

Thank you for the advice, since I'm still pretty new to Retro Computing I don't have a lot of equipment (or knowledge). Though after combing trough some old Forums, it seems the issue can be found with a leaky and somewhat krusty batter,. Will get a replacement part delivered for it next week

Seems to me that you are right with that. The top one reads data in lightning speed. The middle drive doesn't seem to work saddly and the last one got a fat DVD logo on it so im guessing thats right

If there is one thing thats comically inconsistent and in desperate need of work done to it, it be GIFs and Videos. It seems with everything uploaded you get a different result. We really need some standartification when it comes to it

Questions about cleaning a PET ( lemmy.blahaj.zone )

I've had some pretty bad experience about cleaning older Machines such as my NES, where I've accidentally rubbed a lot of the letters and number off and noticed too late. Thats something im particularly worried about when it comes to the keycaps. Is there a reason to worry or tactics I should try to avoid rubbing the letters...

I see, thank you! On a side note, some friends said that the board itself can be cleaned using both toothbrush and q tips as the tool, is that true or would using a toothbrush potentially damage it?

Yeah I'll look for one of those original Dual Floppy Drives! Though might be a bit difficult as they are all more expensive then the Computer itself...
