Well no shit; if you were able to get a top-tier talent predicated on "we'll let you work from home", then yank the rug out from under them, of course they're going to ditch you at the first opportunity. I would too!

Not any of our problems; if you willfully work for Meta after everything that has come out about them, you're a scab against the people and shouldn't be regarded past that point. Fuck should I care about techbros who wouldn't know solidarity if it popped out of a manhole and blew a new hole in their ass for?

Still not my problem; my man you should not be talking about jobs and who holds 'em when Amerika is looking at a job shortage because of all the offshoring. How is licking the boots of the copyright office helping the people? I don't give the first fuck about individuals trying to hoard up IP anymore; IP hoarding-- and the very concept of IP in the first place-- is fuckin bullshit, fuck 'em if they got a problem with that take. We already have to pay through the nose for too much else in society, so why are you licking copyright-uplifting boots?

I've never seen someone self-report a failure of Amerikan History like this before. You must've missed THE ENTIRE Civil Rights Movement segment, or just tuned it out because it made you or someone close to you uncomfy to think about-- like I've asked another person in this thread, what the fuck do you think CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE means????

I live every day of my life under a regime that steals my wages, calls it 'profit', and then in my face, gets away with pocketing it, with STEALING IT; that shit is ALREADY happening. At this point, it'd just even the playing field. If you want me to have solidarity with my fellow worker, you cannot have it both ways where you expect me to uplift the tools of capitalist theft too. Fuck out of my face if all you have is platitudes to capital.

frauddogg ,
@frauddogg@lemmygrad.ml avatar

And your attempted redress is bootlicking the mechanics by which capitalists steal from all of us. Sinclair was right; it really is impossible to get you people to understand shit when your material conditions are dependent on your not. And then you just smug around like you said some prosaic shit I am so sick of y'all.

You don't get to have it both ways; either we can have a communist system where I don't need to worry about my bottom line anymore; or we can have this capitalist bullshit and you can fuckin pay me for every time your machine's data-gripper reaches into my metaphorical pockets.

"i was wrong uwu sowwy" after 10+ years of softball interviews and puff pieces with all the consistency of a lotioned-up handjob? Actual, honest, heavy-caliber investigative journalism across all sectors is in the goddamn toilet if not outright dead because of a mass proliferation of hacks like her, Anderson Cooper, Wolf Blitzer, Rachel Maddow, and Don Lemon; and we're not supposed to call her and her cohort for it? Dell has got to be one of the most frustrating companies that put out a linux laptop. They put out a laptop certified for ubuntu but then never support newer releases. So you're not buying Frameworks, Acers, Hewlett-Packards, or Lenovos then? The NSA codified 'shady spying practices' via domestic spying on their own people, and we've been using prison slaves since the drafting of the 14th Amendment.

Monica joined Glassdoor about 10 years ago, she said, leaving a few reviews for her employers, taking advantage of other employees' reviews when considering new opportunities, and hoping to help others survey their job options. This month, though, she abruptly deleted her account after she contacted Glassdoor support to request...

I mean, a search engine is literally the last thing on the internet I'd pay a subscription for. In a world where literally everything else nickels-and-dimes us for subscription service, search engines, torrent trackers, game modders who paywall their mods, and other kitschy non-essentials are literally the first things to get shuffled off the monthly budget.

If we weren't in such a deep recession that I pay as much a week for my gas as I do my groceries, with rent and ACTUAL bills eating the majority of what's left, I'd feel a bit differently; but if wishes were horses, we'd all ride. I literally had to start growing my own green rather than buying it, the economy's so shit.

Feels like every would-be Double Vergil Sephiroth player fails to land step one drafting the "loner with a dark past". There still has to be a reason to gaf about the party. Now, what's fun is 'naturally thawing the ice prince' over the course of the first arc of his interaction with the party.

I call it the Law of Zuko: it shouldn't take more than like five sessions for an ice prince/lone wolf/edgemancer archetype to either start visibly, but plausibly-deniably caring for the party they're in; or to start accidentally leaving blatant hooks to the tune of trust for other players to grab onto as far as inter-personal stories are concerned. Ten if the ice prince you're running is especially crotchety; but it's hard for me to keep that kind of energy going that long. The only thing better than an edgy badass action hero is when the hero stops feeling the need to project edgy badassery.

What are the craziest misconceptions you’ve heard about programming from people not familiar with it?

As someone who spends time programming, I of course find myself in conversations with people who aren't as familiar with it. It doesn't happen all the time, but these discussions can lead to people coming up with some pretty wild misconceptions about what programming is and what programmers do....

Negl I absolutely did this when I was first getting into it; especially with langs where you actually have to import something to access "higher-level" math functions. All of my review materials have me making arithmetic programs, but none of it goes over a level of like. 9th grade math, tops. (Unless you're fucking with satellites or lab data, but... I don't do that.)

I love Shadowrun as a setting and a game aesthetic; but fuck do I hate the sheer bookkeeping of just standing a character up, never mind the density of the actual play.

frauddogg , (edited )
@frauddogg@lemmygrad.ml avatar

Oh nah when I say "online" in this case, I'm talking "getting out of character creation and into gameplay". Only found one good program that made Shadowrun chums, but it was a for-cost program that locked the purchase code to one machine. And I lost that code; so I'm just... Never making a sheet again, 'cause I'm not going back to the days of meticulously tabbing out how much nuyen I spent on what during character creation in a notepad file again.

(And honestly, roll20 play as far as Shadowrun goes is just as dense from what I remember.)

Now that I think about, I don't think I've ever played a classless TTRPG. My big 3 for the past 15 years have been Pathfinder, Vampire: the Masquerade, and Shadowrun(til I lost my hero lab code at least); so I'm very used to narrowing down within a slate of options for a given archetype. A lot of it is I don't think I've ever known a classless DM, my list of DMs for the past 15 is actually shockingly light. I like keeping the same table folks where I can.
