Google is too big and needs to be broken up. We have entire areas like watches and cars where stuff is just laughably ancient or poorly designed. To my knowledge, android auto doesn't even dynamically scale by screen size, it depends on google and the car maker working together to determine the right size. Cannot control features like AC or heating either.

When you get these mega corps like facebook, google, airlines, train companies, or food/drink companies, they buy up all the competition and then run them into the ground. We are down to like....two very stagnant smartphone OSs now, too.

You have to have regulations against this stuff, or greed takes over until the goverment mandates that stuff like insulin and inhalers are capped at $35/mo so these cunts don't charge $400 for lifesaving medicine.

Same goes for the housing and rental market. Break up these large companies that buy up all the housing and apartments and slap algorithmic rent and purchasing options on them.

Even some domestic brands like Juiced go on sale for like, $1,200 for a Juiced Ripracer. Aventon appears to make good stuff too, if you want bike shop support. I've had my bike for a month and put 320 miles on it. Fun little bike :)

Galaxy On Fire 2 was great, but Elite Dangerous on PC later kicked the absolute crap out of it.

194 nautical miles isn't terribly far, though. For port to port, sure. For oceanic shipping, I don't think 194 is going to cut it. I think we will probably have to do SMRs or efuels to really cut cargo ship and cruise ship emissions when crossing the Pacific or Atlantic. Though I don't know where nuclear powered shipping (in non-military applications) is in terms of progress.

I even had Youtube premium for a bit. Revanced is nice just to dial back some of the bells and whistles that isn't relevant to the video platform. The official app feels clunky.

I like my Kobo, but wish it had a bit better of a storefront. I want to get my books from more than just the kobo store. Overdrive support is nice. It sometimes loses my page just like a real book, ironically.

Still, I find myself still letting it collect dust due to it's limited storefront and long book checkout times at the library. Physical books and newspapers are a bit bigger and stable software-wise.

I really wish epaper displays were more common. It's a really cool technology. I'd love an inexpensive epaper monitor or maybe an alarm clock?

Interesting, I might look into that! Thanks.

Some devices cannot use Bluetooth audio devices, or it's buggy or laggy af. I don't mind wireless buds for the gym, but they sound worse and die before a flight across the US is complete. Wired headsets so don't have to be charged, or if they do have ANC, its usually a replacable battery instead of a rechargeable battery.

I dunno if it's just my Fold 4, but when I ride the train or visit an apartment, I get bombarded by pairing requests from Bose headphones and other bluetooth devices like home speakers. It's probably some setting that Samsung quietly flipped on in a recent patch, but it's really annoying. Fuck off, 𝙳𝚊𝚟𝚎'𝚜 𝙱𝚘𝚜𝚎 𝚀𝚞𝚒𝚎𝚝𝙲𝚘𝚖𝚏𝚘𝚛𝚝 𝟺𝟻 𝙷𝚎𝚊𝚍𝚙𝚑𝚘𝚗𝚎𝚜, I don't need pairing notifications every 10 seconds.

It's popular with furries because of sticker support. Furries are an anchor population for the larger world of IT/etc. It was never really about privacy, or signal would have taken off.

This argument of "nothing to hide" always reminds me of Google, show me this man's balls, please by Eric Andre.

We only started pirating after Amazon refused to let us play movies we paid for because our hardware was too old for their DRM. It was a 2014 PC made of recycled parts. At the time, it was less than 10 years old. We pirated the same movie and realized it was easier to find, higher quality, and surprise, surprise, capable of playing on a PC we kept out of the landfill.

When I see anti piracy measures that punish people that don't pirate, such as massive performance hits or privacy violating features, it makes me want to pirate more.

Subaru offer a certain set of keys for it iirc. Their software is absolute garbage though. Either get an older model or one with physical AC controls.

"develop a technological standard that might turn a user’s electronic device into the proof of age necessary to access restricted online content."

Can we not? Can parents just take care of their kids like they have for thousands of years instead of futility trying to babyproof the internet for a minority of people? Jesus.

The only game that was kinda a bummer was Tears of the kingdom. The sky world was just copy/pastes with nothing but some robots. I wanted the hot bird people up there or something.

The underground was dead and had a few POIs but was basically just those same annoying ninjas from the first game who disguise themselves as civilians. I liked the story and characters in botw2 better. The map was largely unchanged from the first game. Some of the missions were better. Gannon actually getting a plot was cool. The enemies were better this go around. The gmod bits were cool, but caused the game to run like shit. The game also ran at like, 22 fps the entire time anyways. The shrines were as meh as the first game, which were already so dull I’d look up guides just to get more hearts/stamina.

…it should have been a $25 DLC instead of a $70 game.

It was a solid 4.5/10 for me, mostly just on the amount of rehashed stuff for a $70 game, which should have blown my balls off for waiting six years and $70 later. I hope the next Zelda game is more like Twilight Princess.

Wahots ,

Elite dangerous is so fucking good.

The deep rock board game is so fun. And I hate board games and inwardly groan when someone suggests a board game, lol.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

I think had they released it on PC, it would have been a bit better, since the vehicles could be built larger and have a further despawn distance without big frame drop penalties. (And frame drops in certain environments). I’m glad for the enemy variation and liked the bosses better in totk. But next game, I hope the gameplay is wildly different and they take some risks with the story. I’d love to see parts where you play as Zelda or something.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Isn’t that what E3 also was? xD

All of these award ceremonies and cons are just advertising for the latest games or games that are releasing soon. Companies aren’t building games out of charity, but because they make money for their shareholders and occasionally, a private company.

I wish there was a modern phone with an e-paper display on the back. E-paper is great for books and reading the newspaper.

Unfortunately, my eReader doesn’t really support modern web browsers, so it can’t do news articles…

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

What’s app is also Facebook.

So facebook, threads, What’sapp, Instagram are all FB owned lol. They need to be broken up for being that huge.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Apartment complexes, package deliveries, medical shit, people locked out of your house who need to get in to feed pets, your neighbors to shut off the water when your pipes burst when you are on vacation, etc.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

I’m honestly so sick of bots on this website. Nobody even comments, it’s just junk that then dilutes the actual communities posting in c/all. I’d love to have a way to block all memes, porn, and bot posts just so I could actually discover new communities here instead of AI redhead pussy, bots crossposting stale linux memes, and old reddit help threads with 0 comments because they are asking for help on a different site.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Even the helpful bots get annoying after a bit. You submit a post, and immediately get linked bots that show you five alternative sites, three units of measure you already know, and one bot that has absolutely butchered the synopsis of the article posted and left out important details that then derail the conversation.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

There’s a bunch in c/all, lol. Some of it okay, some just straight up not great. Eventually c/all runs out of topics and just starts injecting nsfw posts from subs.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Bit of both! I like the aquarium sub here. I also get really sick of the same bad news over and over again. Especially since a lot of the sources are…not reliable sources… I generally stick to stuff like conversation subs gardening, gaming, etc.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Really? I haven’t seen them in months. Maybe they are blocked on my instance?

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Growth always comes in waves and then settles. I spent nearly a decade on reddit until they killed my app. Reddit took over a decade to become really big. I’m not really that worried for lemmy that much, especially since we now have a framework for something other than reddit. Even if reddit goes into nosedive mode, it won’t be the end of forums as we know it.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

I’m really glad that it’s small. I’d rather see genuine posts about 3D printing or aquariums or mountainbiking rather than ragetext memes or influencer shit on the frontpage of reddit. I do hope we kinda dial down the copy/paste bot content from reddit though, especially the memes.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Hey! You have the same shitty AIO that Comcast sent me! It overheated and tries to melt itself down all the time. Luckily it gets so hot that the adhesive melted and the screws were easily visible. I just took the chassis off and it mostly doesn’t overheat anymore.

https://pawb.social/pictrs/image/b9ffc76d-4e67-42a9-9240-e8ddcb27591f.jpeg

Crazy, the thing is basically hollow and was right next to the window and would still overheat. The bottom doesn’t allow for any air intake so it sufffocates. Also it’s 80% plastic because they couldn’t be assed to add aluminum heatsinks.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

They are all on the bottom, the rubber feet/stripping on mine started coming off, found it by mistake. One has a sticker, but those don’t really hold up to void warranties anyways. Plus, I’m just gonna super glue the rubber feet back on after, hahah. I just tucked the screws and the chassis in the back of a closet for now. No tabs or anything to break when uninstalling it, either!

Edit: yeah, all in one! Mine is one of those modem / wifi combos. I set it to bridge mode so I could use my own router, and the thing still overheated even though it was just acting as a modem, smh. Annoying how bad it is. Luckily, shucking it will clear up 9/10 problems. Put some tape over the LED if you sleep in the same room as it, it’s very bright when exposed.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Yeah, mine has one and it runs, but infrequently and at such a slow RPM it does very little. Shucking it was the only thing that seemed to help!

They should have gone with one of these thicker 30mm (thick) fans. They move a lot more air than even a standard PC fan, but do it quietly.

www.phanteks.com/PH-F120T30.html

Though one has to wonder why it needs cooling at all. I’ve never had an actively cooled network device before, and most of my equipment hasn’t even gotten more than marginally warm due to excellent venting.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Not sure! Does seem…oddly inefficient, though.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Bummer to hear it’s not using Steam. After seeing Bethesda screw up modding with Creation Club, I have low hopes for Paradox’s attempt, considering they already monetize the shit out of their games.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

While the subsystem of 5e isn’t my favorite, Baldur’s Gate 3 has an insanely good RPG system and every sidequest feels pretty unique. No radiant quests like 2077 or Bethesda games Sure, the sex scenes could be a bit better, and I’d like more dialog once you become the best of friends with people, but it’s still amazingly deep with great voice acting and tidbits of stories in various places and situations.

I recommend it if you haven’t played it yet! It’s definitely my game of the year.

Wahots , (edited )
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

They cap the time you can listen to something on a paid subscription? Lmao, their podcasts already suck and are annoying to navigate, and tend to get mixed between music in the UI. Can I pay money to just have a music service?

Also, ebooks and audio books are digital, so any caps (like data caps) are entirely arbitrary.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Shit, if they haven’t started it yet, it better not be coming out in 2026. I want at least four years of peaceful development without them rushing it and burning out the devs. I want good stories and plenty of werewolf content. And no gamebreaking bugs like Cyberpunk, whose campaign got glitched for me.

Wahots ,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

As much fun as werewolf penis is, I want real story development, haha. Questlines, explore the affliction, marginalized werewolf underground societies, maybe even a remote village where everyone, men/women/children are werewolves and/or other types of were creatures? I feel like there’s plenty to explore aside from the yiff and relationship type stuff!

Although I still hate DisplayPort’s latching, makes it so hard to unplug cables in tight spaces

As a counterpoint to this, I’ve had GPUs with “tired” HDMI ports in tight spaces. They wiggle ever so slightly, and unplug themselves by half a millimeter. Suddenly, a monitor or AVR will stop working, but it might not be obvious if you are watching TV through a PC. (For example, HDMI connections: PC (Unplugged) -> AVR -> TV (HDMI passthrough).

The locking connector means you don’t get those annoying issues where the TV looks like it’s having issues, but it’s actually due to a loose cable on the PC - AVR connection. Lots of troubleshooting sometimes.

If you do hate the latches, they make flat ones too
