“If there were an Oscar for best theatrical performance by a country, Israel would win every year. It’s a country based on theater. It’s a lunatic state - completely insane”.

EVs are cheaper to fill up than internal combustion engine cars, even in oil rich countries - Changan Eado EV, 9 Saudi Riyal (2.4USD) to drive 460km (287.5miles) - . I want to get an EV eventually, I just want to know how well can they handle +50C temperatures.

One has to wonder how many clock cycles are wasted to render the watermark

Whoever can become independent of the other's chips will win. Who will remove the other first from its supply chain? I have my guesses but it will be interesting to watch it play out.

Trump rocked the boat and Biden did nothing except double down.

I'm glad my country went with Huawei. It is good to have cheap alternatives to Western technology and the West is forcing China to develop in this area, so it is a win for everyone.

If Microsoft does that I'm wiping out my laptop and going back to Linux*

* only reason I moved away is I bought a new laptop to replace my 2010 Mac mini that ran LinuxMint, and the laptop came preloaded with Windows 11 and I decided to just keep using it as-is as I liked the UI.

Fun fact: it is not an entirely new idea. Microsoft did something similar with Active Desktop in Windows 98 but was later removed.

A German state is ditching Windows and Microsoft Office for Linux and LibreOffice on the 30,000 PCs it uses for local government functions ( www.theregister.com )

Schleswig-Holstein, Germany's most northern state, is starting its switch from Microsoft Office to LibreOffice, and is planning to move from Windows to Linux on the 30,000 PCs it uses for local government functions....

If all they are using their PCs for is word processing and intranet webapps, perhaps they don't need Windows anymore. It is not like ActiveX is supported anymore.

Really looking forward to mass produced 16nm chips. Flooding the market is just what’s needed to make them more affordable

The US was trying to scam TSMC. So what happens next? Will TSMC still build its fab in the US?

I know it is in the title but can this really be it for the CHIPS act? This is bad performance even by the US standard. I’m not sympathetic I just didn’t think the failure will be so decisive and so early.

So what’s next for CHIPS and fabrication in the US?

Polish Hackers Repaired Trains the Manufacturer Artificially Bricked. Now The Train Company Is Threatening Them ( www.404media.co )

In one of the coolest and more outrageous repair stories in quite some time, three white-hat hackers helped a regional rail company in southwest Poland unbrick a train that had been artificially rendered inoperable by the train’s manufacturer after an independent maintenance company worked on it. The train’s manufacturer is...

True, but that’s why it is somewhat functional. Otherwise it would be a mess, swinging back and forth between contradictory short term thinking.

The Arabian Gulf states are not democratic at all, and sometimes the governments go against the wishes of the people -mostly US-aligned foreign policies and social and economic liberalization-. But they sure can get shit done and massively. Kinda like China but on a smaller scale because all together the Arabian Gulf -without the foreigners- adds up to the population of one Chinese city.
