Some people need everything to have a GUI. They evaporate as soon as they’re required to open the terminal.

fin ,

If you’re talking about me I didn’t say that I’m one of those. I love CLI and rather hate GUI.

fin ,

For example, when you want to install desktop environments, you need to use CLI. There’s no GUI option. I guess that’s why Linux is considered “difficult” for Windows/MacOS users, while they can use Chromebook, which is also Linux.

The point of original post is how zdnet is trying to let people use Linux, right?

Would you teach your kids how to pirate?

My gf and I have had discussions about teaching morals to kids. In that vein, I asked myself, would I teach piracy to my kids? Yes, it’s technically illegal and carries inherent risks. But so does teenage sex carry the risks of teenage pregnancy, and so we have an obligation to children to teach them how to practice safe sex....

fin ,

Don’t. They’ll learn anyways. You’re gonna deprive them of the joy of learning to pirate (lol)

Seriously, teaching how to pirate is not what parents should do

fin ,

They got paid by canonical or something?

fin ,

I’ll break the keyboard if someone would do that to me

No my firefox is not signed in, and I don't think Google will send the data to Microsoft.

This would be the worstest timing for it to be shown if it's just a coincidence

Is gentoo Linux really worth it?

I've installed gentoo but there seems like there's so many sacrifices. I love that it's all open source, but I really don't mind closed source software now and then, because after all I would be using it to play closed source games. The biggest compromise I've observed is the very long build times. I have a lukewarm cpu(i3...

If you want fastness, consider using void linux instead

    fin ,

Maybe we should have a working Linux live USB before we buy a new laptop so that we can set it up without connecting it to the home router.

    What's new in this release:

    • Mono engine updated to version 9.0.0.
    • A number of system tray fixes.
    • Exception handling improvements on ARM platforms.
    • Various bug fixes.

It seems there’s no new feature

I don’t think Bluesky is better than any instance on Fediverse, but we need to make changes I guess.

As a NixOS user, I will definitely not recommend beginners to use this distro. It's just a poorly documented, not user-friendly Linux.

I use it because I really hate .config and dotfiles, like why do I need to edit several files for just one thing?

Standalone nix installation and Home-manager would be fine though, I still not recommend them because at least I cannot tell if the binary I'm executing right now is installed from Nix or apt or whatever until I execute which

    Stop being elitist

That takes away most teenagers' motivation to use Linux xD

Here is one of my collection of O’Reilly books. Not actually mine, but my father’s. It’s published in 1995 by a Japanese publisher.

No. It's the fifth version. The first one was published in 1992, three years before this

    Looking to make the switch

Hi everyone, looking to make the switch from windows. I'm reasonably technically apt but not a programmer by any means. I've been doing some homework on which distro I would like to use and pop_os kinda feels like the right direction. I'm running an Nvidia 3060TI on a Ryzen 5600 chip set on an Asus tuf motherboard. Any other...
