GluWu ,

I'm honestly wondering if I can start a business "de-smarting" things. I had this idea a couple years ago when I was hardware disabling the microphone in my Comcast remote. I think the average consumer is realizing how much they are being tracked and do not like it. Enough that they would pay for solutions. The VPN market is massive.

GluWu ,

They will, they will make hundreds, maybe thousands of arrests knowing full well its unconstitutional. But it'll take a year or two to work through courts at which point the courts will be completely controlled by Project 2025 magats.

GluWu ,

Steve really helps me, I've watched him for years, before he was even married I think. If he can keep going, so can I.

GluWu ,

Yes, that's a red eared slider. And have others have said, yeah, no, it is 100% not okay. I don't think I should say the explicit details. This is... I'm mean you obviously don't understand so I don't blame you. But yeah. Life will continue anyways. Nature do be how it is.

GluWu ,

I didn't say it was dead.

Glance works to deliver recommendations to users like ads, news articles, and more on the lock screen.

How do I block it?

Glance will side with offering a subscription service where users can pay for "premium news" on their lock screens every month.

Oh, so just don't pay for it, right?

Fortunately, you can disable Glance on the phone, but we found that the service would occasionally produce a full-screen prompt on the lock screen, encouraging you to re-enable the feature.

Oh, so more bloat using resources even when disabled.

Glance will seek to make a profit through the aforementioned subscription and if users interact with its "product of the day."

Its literally just a venture to capture and advertise on every visible space possible.

It looks like I'll be spending 2025 onward with Linux and a flip phone.

How Political Campaigns Use Your Data to Target You, and What You Can Do to Protect Your Privacy ( www.eff.org )

Political campaigns tap into the same intrusive adtech tracking systems used to deliver online behavioral ads. We saw a glimpse into how this worked after the Cambridge Analytica scandal, and the system has only grown since then....

GluWu ,

Lol, "highly accurate". I get constant political texts, but they have the wrong number. Its fun replying, just sending goatse has gotten boring so its forcing me to be more creative. I'll never text "STOP", wasting political resources gives me the warm fuzzies inside.

What Spotify to YouTube MP3 downloader for Android do you recommend?

I was using Spotiflyer for a while because it worked well and was available through F-Droid but it seems like the creator has moved on to an app called SoundBound that I haven't seen in the megathread or any of the other sites listed in the Other Treasures section....

GluWu ,

Used to use spowlo, don't know why I switched to soundbound but it works the same and gets good enough audio for my phone. Zotify on desktop.

GluWu ,

I 100% amazing mirror several times on GBA. Loved that device and many games it had. I want a modern pocket emulator GB device but can't justify it since I already have a Steam deck. Or a phone. I guess nostalgia doesn't hold enough monetary value to me to profit off of.

GluWu ,

Same same. I really really want buttons, but I've been playing on touch screen emulators since the... I forget what it was even called, iTouch is a crime, so it was ipod touch? Idk, the first through maybe 3rd gen of those. 2012 hardware. I actually love the bigger screen and some graphic enhancements that the emulators/mods can do. But my steam deck is still a big thing to carry. Unless I know that's the only thing I'm using when I'm out, I feel like I need a backpack to carry it and other stuff. I'll have to dive into the rabbit hole of Chinese pocket emulators, I've only kept up with the us/euro Kickstarter type ones. Something pocket sized with buttons is really all I want. But again, do I need to consume that when I already have multiple options?

GluWu ,

I never had one that could do anything other than wifi and USB. I bought broken ones for <$40 and would put together "fresh" rebuilds with emulators to "donate". Thinking about it I miss the hax0r more than their use. Replaying Pokémon emerald for hours during off time was just a benefit.

‘We definitely messed up’: why did Google AI tool make offensive historical images? ( www.theguardian.com )

Brin’s “We definitely messed up.”, at an AI “hackathon” event on 2 March, followed a slew of social media posts showing Gemini’s image generation tool depicting a variety of historical figures – including popes, founding fathers of the US and, most excruciatingly, German second world war soldiers – as people of...

TFW you accidentally leave the hidden diversity LoRa weight at 1.00.

GluWu ,

Yes, that is exactly what you should do. Remove the antenna.

GluWu ,

It'd be pretty quick to write a script that loads a randomly selected url from a prepopulated list at random intervals. Could probably do it in grease monkey directly in Firefox so you could use other tools in addition like adnausium and a client spoofer.

GluWu ,

Just start listing the most popular and generic sites. Then Google a topic like technology and copy whatever those sites are. I imagine you could have a pretty decent list populated in 15 minutes. You could also just ask chatgpt to create lists of the top 100 sites for "x".

What would write in? I might be willing to help because this interests me as well.

GluWu ,

Let me know if you start working on anything. I want to try to use greasemonkey, I haven't in years.

GluWu ,

Oh dang, nice. Simple and sweet. Thanks.

GluWu ,

I wish my ISP sent me a physical letter instead of just an email about me pirating the TOTK leak before it was released. Nintendo is watching me. I still haven't played it, I'm just really proud to have been apart of that fuck Nintendo party. Maybe I'll print out the email and frame it.

Copilot misses the question, elaborates on topic I was speaking aloud instead. ( lemmy.world )

Was using my SO's laptop, I had been talking (not searching, or otherwise typing) about some VPN solutions for my homelab, and had the curiosity to use the new big copilot button and ask what it can do. The beginning of this context was actually me asking if it can turn off my computer for me (it cannot) and I ask this....

GluWu , (edited )

I believe theyre linking Metadata. Regardless of my VPN, the ads that slip through are clearly all linked between device's so it's my belief that they're gathering and tracking data to link sources based on hardware info. I use randomized MAC, client spoofers, VPN, adblock dns, everything, and they're still able to link my devices based on hardware data.

GluWu ,

Nope. They'll keep burning through the 9,999,999,999 phone numbers from outside the US but you'll get indicted for a felony for purchasing VPN services outside of US regulations.

GluWu ,

This doesn’t apply to foreign service providers, right? Since they’re not subject to U.S. laws? I thought most private individuals try to get VPN service outside the U.S. anyways to reduce the likelihood of the U.S. government finding out what was being done over VPN.

Felony for purchasing unregulated services outside of the US. This is a slippery slope argument, but your VPN service in whatever country will be deemed as funding terrorism because they aren't federally regulated. These laws already exist, they just waited to be applied to the political dissonants that don't agree with the two party oligarchy.

GluWu ,

Is the crystal structure pertinent to the treatment or can they just be nanoparticles?

Is there a FOSS/privacy oriented IoT community?

Is there a community specific to FOSS or just general privacy oriented IoT? With plenty of hardware discussion along with software. Routers, piholes, Meshtastic, anything IoT but open source. If it touches a network but you want it to do something it doesn't. Flashing a doorbell camera with FOSS firmware. Hosting media servers...

GluWu OP ,

Yeah I know about all those, but unless they're someone that's privacy oriented, most people end up using closed oem solutions. It's kinda weird how some people will get angry at people not using full open Linux, and then go and login to their ring account to check their door if the notification for their Amazon package is correct. I didn't want to say it was a niche in my post but it is, so I wanted to expand that.

I'll crack anything open to solder some jumpers to the rom(or more likely the existing open pin placements where they flash at the factory) and poke around or just fully flash hardware. Where are the other people that do this? It's both hardware and software skilled. Lots of software people, lots of hardwares people. There should be a community to connect and build FOSS systems.

GluWu OP ,

I know, Meshtastic is almost entirely built on esp32 devices. Where is the community for this ecosystem? If there isn't one on a widely federated instance there should be.

GluWu OP ,

I guess I could make it, but I have zero desire to be a mod. Maybe if I make it I could pass it off relatively quickly to someone relevant that wants to do that type of thing.

GluWu OP ,

Kind of, there's a lot of relevant posts that would be good cross posts. But they really concentrate on just networking and software. Id like a place that's also a lot of hardware tinkering.

GluWu ,

Just use the free plan but download whatever you plan on listening to using any of the countless tools to do exactly that.

GluWu ,

I am having only issues with zotify on windows, randomly hit or miss, and like 90% miss.

GluWu ,

Yeah, the tools I use for playlists grabs whatever is on YouTube. I haven't found a mobile option to download full playlists from a not YouTube source.

New Jon Stewart Daily show not available to pirate anywhere?

After Sonarr didn't grab the latest episode (despite never having a problem with the show before) I tried manually searching for it and came up completely short. Nothing in Sonarr, nothing in qbittorrent and nothing on the open web. What gives? The episode 100% aired last night. Feels like Im missing something....

GluWu ,

Don't forget the bigger picture. 5 whole tonnes of cocaine is now off the street.

GluWu ,

Use an old android phone with whatever os you want. Even if you keep the oem os you can load whatever FOSS/ privacy apps you want. I like having a keyboard and mouse, revanced/newpipe, VLC for local files, jellyfin for networked, Firefox with ad block, etc. I need to see how gaming is through steam link.

GluWu ,

Is that still alive/not malware?

GluWu ,

With what API servers? The official ones were taken down.

GluWu ,

I might have to check it out again. Haven't used it for years and figured it was officially dead. Thanks

GluWu ,

Where is the scene to at least start being considered for private trackers?

I don't understand how the scene is supposed to stay alive when it's this exclusive. You have to be in a chat from a forum where you've spent years just to get the trackers, let alone do anything for the group other than seed.

GluWu ,

I'm getting my playlists out then ditching Spotify. It's the only service I pay for other than my ISP and VPN.

GluWu ,

The data broker deletion services all advertise deleting your info from 2-300 agents. Who the fuck are the other several thousand, what are they doing with the data, and how the fuck is any of this legal.

GluWu ,

As soon as gaming is mostly flawless and similar or better performance than windows, I'll be 100% over. Gaming has come so far, all the way into the 2010s the only games on Linux were like Portal, HL, minecraft, and KSP. But it's still got a little ways to go.

GluWu ,

I'm well aware of how far out has come, I was a second batch pre-order for the steamdeck. And yes, just in the time it's been out, Linux gaming has come sooo far. For me, all of my games don't run seamlessly and as well, some do still just shit themselves, so I still keep a win10 boot drive for gaming. Once major support for win10 ends I think Linux gaming will be even better and my gaming will finally be all Linux.
