Sorry for hijacking this beautiful conversation you talented gentlemen are having, but can help me out?
I wanted to learn electronic music creation. I learnt very briefly how fl studio works, and then got busy due to my workload. Now I want to give it a go again. I heard llms is good for Linux, but I don't understand how to get various instrument samples like fl studio. How do I set it all up? Can you point me to any good resources. I am also not committed to lmms and am open to suggestions.
I created this project some years back and the project just reached v1.1.0. I know most people have jellyfin servers and all set up, but if you have just a local folder of all your series saved up, you can use this to remember what you were watching....
Yes... Though I haven't used kodi. I thought of including movies too... But I couldn't think of a place to reliably scrape tags and details about movies.
After the movie there is an entire season. And a season 3 is coming soon. I suggest you re-watch from the start. Wouldn't want to miss out on little kids suffering /s. But honestly it is a very beautiful anime.
I am building this mainly for my personal use. Plus most of dedicated software tries to pander to a large audience incuring bloat. Hence I am not adding networking features now. But I really love my software and if I set up over the network media servers I will update this to that. It's ultimately my code and as you can see by the lack of other people contributing and the software not being that massively popular I don't think anybody will mind.
Did you install cargo using rustup? Or did you use the system package manager. Using rustup is the preferred method.
PS I don't have my dev machine with me a this moment. But as I can see many people have so many installation issues, I will try to create a flatpak for the application. I will post soon
I am looking at these gaggle of posts and all of lemmy is flooded with this and then think that there is an entire Spyware OS on the other side... Which who knows what code it runs and people are chill about it. I am so thankful for this community.
I am a relatively new Linux user, 3 years (almost 2 years dual booted with Windows and now only Linux) and I started using Wayland after approx 2.5 years ago. I used it on my ideapad gaming with 3050etx and Intel igpu and prior to that I used some hp laptop... With gtx 980mx. I used manjaro then arch and then fedora for the last yeae mostly and I haven't encountered any issues with Wayland whatsoever
I have an oldish Dell Latitude 7480 which doesn't meet the requirements for upgrade to Windows 11 so I thought I'd take the opportunity to install Linux on it as I only really need it for day to day web stuff / studying / media and light gaming....
I know you have been getting a lot of suggestions but have you tried Fedora or any of the rpm based distros?
Basically all Linux distros can trace everything back to three major ones: Debian, Arch and RHEL. (Also slack ware is a thing and there are many non major one). Since you tried Debian and arch families without success, I suggest you give the RHEL family a go. In my experience RHEL based distros have the best hardware compatibility.
I have been daily driving a dual booted laptop for the past two years. After a year of distro hopping I settled with fedora + kde and never looked back. I really liked the auto nvidia driver config and it made everything so pleasant to work. Since the last 8 or 9 months I decided to do gaming using bottles and proton ge. I...
Exactly. Plus I was super creeped out by the news that apparently Microsoft tries to decrypt files I have stored encrypted on my one drive and by default sets up my home directory to be on one drive. What the fuck
I actually set up Linux on my family machine 1 year ago and they don't even notice since all they need is a browser and vlc. So they have been daily driving Linux longer than me :)
The main reason I used fedora was because of hassle free nvidia (as muchjh as they can do until nvidia open sources everything and not just the kernel modules).
I actually did everything on Ext4 and had a separate home partition which was only 30gigs. So that was the main gripe in the previous install I had I thought to rectify it.
Alas I didn't use btrfs this time also and did Ext4. Maybe I should have enabled snapshots. Who knows. I may just be an adventurous dude.
Basically the windows partition was taking up around 250 gb. And wasn't even booting into it. Sure I could access it from Linux, but it was literally useless.
It wasn't the fact that I got updates that bothered me. It's the fact that this update will take up more space on my disk and not replace previously occupied 8 gb that irked me. Some how, the space occupied by windows jut keeps on increasing.
I am sorry if my post made you feel bored. But please don't unsubscribe. What kind of post do you want to see on this platform? I am sure people can reach a common ground my mutual discussion.

I've been on Wayland for the past two years exclusively (Nvidia)....
