theangryseal OP ,

I really should stop putting off Dune.

theangryseal OP ,

Could be your time filter. They’re still showing up on my end.

Thank you for the comment. :)

theangryseal ,

I don’t think I’ve ever seen discord get a positive mention on this sub. I’ve never used it so I don’t really have a horse in this race.

I don’t know what people use it for, but I’ve seen all the negative memes about open source software devs using it and that causing people to skip on the software though. Never seen it get any praise around here.

theangryseal ,

They should consider committing less crimes fewer.

theangryseal ,

It is so depressing how much I lost as a kid.

My backup method was almost entirely optical. Oh well. I’ve kept myself from feeling too bad by keeping in mind that I am waaaaay too lazy to ever go digging through it anyway.

theangryseal ,

I have one. It’s one of the higher end deals from a couple years ago (for a chrome book). I have been excited to work on it every time I’ve seen something like this posted.

I CAN’T FIND IT! Gaaaaah.

I seen the damn thing a thousand times. I wasn’t looking for it. Now? Gone. Nowhere.

Does this shit happen to anyone else?

theangryseal ,

I just found the one I have and it has an ARM processor. :(

theangryseal ,

Wot The Fsck You Say, Spotify? ( lemmy.world )

Edit: A couple times I've said eBook while I actually meant Audiobook. I've learned that Spotify has a 15 hour limit per month for their free 'included in premium' audiobooks. However these are the two books I listened to for free, and even rounding up to 13 hours it doesn't make sense, unless they count accidental chapter skips...

theangryseal ,

My library closed recently because of structural issues with the building. I finally made up my mind and drove over to get a card. What a bummer.

theangryseal ,

I’m glad I figgered it oot. All I miss are the video subs. I can live without them.

YouTube can’t get it right, I watched one video about police brutality 15 years ago and now they think I just want to watch people get pummeled by cops all day and be mad about it. I can’t just go subscribing to a community with content I like on there, gotta subscribe to individuals and hope the right stuff rolls in. I just don’t watch many videos these days.!

theangryseal ,

Should I not be playing the native Linux version? Or am I just an idiot who doesn’t understand how the game works?

theangryseal ,

Not just political subs. I’ve been banned from silly video subs just for commenting on /r/conservative.

My wife uses Facebook every day.

She’s a very family oriented person and she’s gonna be wherever they are.

She’s the kind of person who wakes up and calls her mom, then her grandma, then her sisters every single day. Hell, she even talks to her nephews every day and they’re toddlers.

There really isn’t anything that compares as far as that goes.

I feel like the Steam Deck is the best proof of Gabe Newell's quote that "piracy is a service issue."

They could have easily crammed the Steam Deck full of stuff to make it hard to use for piracy - locking down everything, making it usable only to play games you legitimately own, force you to go through who knows what hoops in order to play games on it. That’s what Nintendo or Apple or most other companies do....

theangryseal ,

It’s funny. I’m dirt poor and I really want to play The Last of Us again. I could easily download it and get it going through piracy. Heck, it’s crossed my mind a time or two.

But you know what I’m doing? I’m waiting for it to go on sale and I’ll grab it then if the time is right. If not I’ll wait until it is.

I have plenty to do until then.

It’s definitely a service issue. I haven’t pirated a single game on Steam Deck.

theangryseal ,

I remember when this was the joke with Slackware.

I think I’m remembering right.

I’ve never used arch. If I get another laptop one day I’ll give it a go.

I am pouring one out to this little champ. Stripping HDCP and letting me... archive streaming services from 2016-2023 RIP ( lemmy.world )

What killed it, well after reviewing some PS4 gameplay I noticed that it was having audio issues, like it would allow some sounds but not all. It was almost as if it was receiving a 5.1 audio output but was missing the centre channel. Even though the PS4 was set to stereo....

theangryseal ,

Phones finally stopped my hoarding.

On my desktop pc I have almost every file I’ve downloaded since 1998. Seriously.

Want that old specific version of Nero to burn CDs, I probably have you. Looking for abandonware? Yeah, that was my thing for awhile.

I used to have operating systems I can’t find any record of existing these days (mostly front ends for DOS made to seem more modern in the early 00s). I had something that made Windows 3.1 look like Windows 95, I even had something that made Windows 98 look just like Mac OS 8 (no shit, it layered over windows and everything flawlessly).

I had every version of Mandrake Linux and several versions after the rename.

Tonnns of software to extend the life of 16 bit hardware.

I still have several screeners in 240p from the early 2000s with the audience moving around and laughing in them.

I have a decent collection of Nirvana bootlegs I downloaded from FTP servers way back in the day.

Man I miss the old internet. I’m getting old and that’s part of it I guess.

I find myself hoarding on the Steam Deck desktop too. Something about having a wide open file system just brings that impulse out in me.

theangryseal ,

I don’t have that one. I remember my cousin using it to animate dolls she drew on paint shop pro though. I don’t specifically remember it being animation shop, but I remember the name Jasc when she was showing me her work.

Windows pc calling home (even while asleep) ( lemmy.dbzer0.com )

I have a network-wide pi hole and I noticed that it requested activity.windows.com, a url blocked by my pi hole, even while my pc is suspended. I pinged 10.0.0.217 and it is currently unreachable. So, somehow, windows pc’s turn on networking, phones home, and turns off even while suspended....

theangryseal ,

I game on Linux every day.

I wish multiplayer worked across the board but it’s whatever. I don’t have time for it any way haha.

theangryseal ,

Yep. I’d like to play the older call of duty games when I hook it up on my dock. I’ve thought about dual booting, but the work, man. Maybe I’ll get my daughter to do it one day. She’s still tech excited. The world hasn’t burned her out yet. :p

theangryseal ,

One of my earliest experiences online was on an irc server.

I was showing my mom how it worked and she pissed some other woman off on there. The lady told her she was going to hack her.

Well, she started sending a bunch of ascii text and my mom panicked and forced me to unplug the computer.

My mom said, “How long should we wait to connect to the internet? We probably need antivirus.” Haha

I felt like a goddamn explorer in those days.

theangryseal ,

You tell him if he digs my trash out one more time he will be sentenced to death.

I had a pet raccoon when I was younger. He was a complete and total nightmare.

theangryseal OP ,

I just realized I titled them both “and finally”.

I’m a big fat liar is what I am. :p

theangryseal OP ,

:) thank you.

theangryseal OP ,

This cat likes only me and the dog in the picture, and only at certain times throughout the day.

If she sees another cat through the damn window she comes in and beats the hell out of me and the dog and then hides behind the couch growling and hissing for hours lol.

She’s a nut.

theangryseal ,

What a bummer.

I’m doing ok without it though. I didn’t load old.reddit once today.

I probably won’t tomorrow.

I used to look at Reddit in almost all of my downtime at work. Now I’m trying to write when I see nothing new is coming up on Lemmy.

Still though. 15 years on Reddit. Goddamn. It definitely bums me out. I mean, it’s just a website, but it has helped shape so much of who I am.

I’m an atheist in the Bible Belt for example, and atheism being a default sub back in the day really helped me out a lot.

All things must pass.

theangryseal ,

I haven’t heard about that (being originally populated by bots) but I would love to read something about it if you know of anything.
