streaming or torrenting today vs. 5 years ago

I've been a good boy for 5 years or so but the seas call to me. Are streaming sites the way to go now or is torrenting still a better bet for mainstream movies and tv? I'd imagine all of my accounts have been deleted on those sites so I'd be starting over.

kratoz29 ,

Does it have trakt integration or similar equivalent?

It has a subpar integration, if you care too much about this kind of stuff (getting a whole working multimedia center, and thinkering in general) and have a proper device that can handle Kodi in a lagless manner, I'd say you stick with it.

If you want a set it and forget it kind of solution and have less sophisticated hardware Stremio + a Debrid provider is golden.

(My Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019 struggles with Kodi and a Debrid/streaming setup, also is significantly slower than Stremio).

kratoz29 ,

I use Real Debrid with Stremio + Torrentio. I just need to figure out how to add the manual torrent search & download plugin for Real Debrid since I watch a lot of obscure British TV, not everything is hosted already.

If you mean caching content to RD I think you can do this with the Unchained app, if you use Android, or you can do it pretty much anywhere you like using the RD website.

Then you can use the DMM addon to watch it on Stremio, or probably it will show up with any addon that supports RD, or if not then you can simply use the Debrid manager that is available at Torrentio, or as a standalone addon.

kratoz29 ,

It doesn't right away (after a fresh reboot) but it fails eventually, as Kodi is my heaviest app, it could be due to my skin, but man, some ppl say Stremio is ugly, but Kodi with stock addon is way uglier that is not even pleasen to use, my skins aren't the heaviest, Arctic Horizon 2 and Fuse.

It also could be because the Shield TV is my secondary Plex Server and that would bring some background load (even when it is not serving media), but I have done tests with and without this, same for the PlexKodiConnect addon.

kratoz29 ,

while still being able to use your own DNS/wireguard VPN/proxy...

Wait, I thought the "downside" of this app was that it used your VPN connection, compared to NextDNS or the built in DNS feature of Android.

I also use AdAway rooted version and not really looking into changing it, but if you could clarify about this I could happily see it as an alternative :)

kratoz29 ,

Hmm, this is an interesting question, as I live in a 3rd world country it is hard to pinpoint exactly which event drove me to this beautiful world.

With that said, the first console that we ever had (sis and I) was a PS1, it came with Gran Turismo and DBZ Ultimate Battle 22, I think.

Anyway, I was probably 6 years old, and my dad took care of chip it (took it to a place, it is common to do that in Mexico) and then I got the pirated games for dirt cheap in flea markets and such, a similar event happened with the PS2.

But when I truly sailed the seas for myself, at least in a gaming scenario, happened when I got my Nintendo DS phat, I quickly knew about a R4, and managed myself to find ROM sites, homebrew, heck I used to use Windows Live Messenger in that little thing lol (DS Lite at that time).

I mean, I pirated software for PC and possibly burned some games for the PS1/PS2 before having the DS, but having unlimited portable fun with the DS (and then the PSP) was when I turned into a no return point.

where do people with pirated copies of games meet to play online together ?

I recently got into fighting games (like: kof - street fighters - Mortal Kombat - Guilty Gear...etc). Now you can pirate the game, and you can play it online with someone if the two of you agree on using same pirated copy and Hamachi for example, but where do you meet these people to play with? are there dedicated forums for...

kratoz29 ,

But if you can arrange play sessions with acquaintances, it would be fine wouldn't it?

kratoz29 ,

Does Chrome sync addon data? I am getting a bit annoyed by the fact that Firefox does not, but actually I don't remember if Chrome ever did this.

kratoz29 ,

Is there any tool like this for macOS?

kratoz29 ,

If this is some kind of question like "you can only play this in your lifetime" I'd pick up a DSi XL or closely a 3DS, I enjoy the DS library more, so it would be a downgrade doing it there, unless things have changed since the last time I checked.

The reasons are simple, it has tons of great titles and many of them have a high replayability value.

kratoz29 ,

I don't know man, I had my fair share of fun with a pair of Nyan Cat games, the original Plants Vs Zombies, Nimble Quest (I just got this again on Android and cracked the heck out of it with Lucky patcher, and still suck lol), Tiny Wings, Angry Birds and I could be missing some others.

kratoz29 ,

That you didn't like them doesn't mean they sucked, look along this thread and you'll find ppl sharing titles worthwhile back then (me included), ofc, this is not GOTY material, but a game must not be a masterpiece in order to be enjoyable, which ultimately is what all games are for, to be an enjoyable hobby.

kratoz29 ,

At least in Android you can install old games yet, I just installed Nimble Quest and had a blast as of recently.

kratoz29 ,

Oh yeah, I fired up my old iPhone 6s to play the Infinity Blade II, no regrets!

kratoz29 ,

The only thing that keeps me motivated to use the audio jack is because my old car still has an old stereo and I use it daily, and I am too lazy to use dongles lol.

As a matter of fact here is a pic of a disc that my girlfriend bought recently because it was on discount, and we tried it in the car for the first time ever! (We also don't usually buy discs, this would be the first time in more than a decade).

kratoz29 ,

Huh, this is the first time I heard about this, thanks for sharing!

Do not use the version from the Play Store though, get it directly from Github.

Why? I use Vaultwarden with Bitwarden from the Playstore is there anything wrong with it?

kratoz29 ,

Ah, I see, thanks for the heads up.

kratoz29 ,

The longest I stuck with the franchise was through Metroid Prime Hunters for the DS, and it wasn't the graphics or the game itself that captivated me (although both are awesome, ngl) but the online capabilities and gameplay, I have not even finished the game, only played several minutes of the campaign (which maybe I am not missing out of much here, as I have read it is one of the weakest), and yet I have had more than 500 hrs of playtime thanks to the multiplayer, which I still used even after the closure of the servers thanks to Wiimmfi.

For me the gameplay with the stylus as the main aim control is the best the DS can offer to have a proper and fast paced aim, if you could search for some of the crazy stuff that the pro players managed with this game on YT and how hardcore it can get for this hardware in those days, you'd be surprised, here is a video that comes at the top of my mind, and it is a recent one too, also the sniper battles (imperialist) were pretty awesome.

With that said, I know the franchise and what it means for everyone, I appreciate it that much that I refuse to even play more metroidvanias without finishing Super Metroid (and Castlevania Symphony of The Night while we are at it).

kratoz29 ,

Which is pretty stupid because you'd think that it would be really logical to have a way to have plenty of storage for those flagship cameras which would fill that lame ass basic storage... I mean do those flagships have more than a TB of storage? I'd think not most models.

kratoz29 , (edited )

Ok, I gotta ask, I know almost nothing about the lore of Fallout, is this show for me? Does it have enough content for newcomers that makes it worth it?

I did enjoy the Twisted Metal TV show, if that brings any context about what stuff I like, although at least I did play some of their old games and enjoyed them, but I remember next to nothing about the game's "plot", if there was any to begin with.

EDIT: Thank you so much for your replies guys, it seems definitely like a fun show and I'm craving for one lol (I just finished Titans S03... and... it was not good), I'm gonna give it a try!

kratoz29 ,

Wait, this sounds better than the Twisted Metal TV show plot LMAO.

kratoz29 ,

I guess the recommendation of turning off the Bluetooth to save battery, or the sarcastic comment that usually says "bro, just turn off the phone if you care too much about the battery" are gonna be obsolete now aren't they?

kratoz29 ,

I have almost no interest in any Ubisoft games at this point... I just have Child of Light and The New Prince of Persia games on my radar... Maybe I should just 🦜

kratoz29 ,

Yep, the addon is working as expected.

kratoz29 ,

userchrome is really fun

It is not fun for me when the most beautiful themes are meant to be used on Linux or Windows and the Window buttons are all messed up for macOS (or won't even show up), you can't literally be without those window buttons on macOS because you can't maximize FF from the dock as any sane dock or taskbar.

kratoz29 ,

Then why I struggle a lot to navigate through Discord compared with any other messaging app, such as Telegram, don't answer, probably because Discord UI is trash.

kratoz29 ,

This is my main, but I struggle to find a good CSS theme that integrates with this instead of Sidebery.

kratoz29 ,

I'd like to understand and have the patience of learning about CSS theming :D

kratoz29 ,

895, I don't think all of them are active or even still going (were replaced by bigger instances).

Deeply nested comments not showing up properly ( ttrpg.network )

This old thing that sometimes happened in Sync for Reddit seems to happen again here, where comments are always indented even to the point of not rendering correctly because they reached the right border. If I'm remembering correctly, this was fixed by giving the user the option to "Load more comments" in the old app, which...

kratoz29 ,

Reddit began in a similar way - being very tech focused until it started to become much more mainstream.

I wasn't at the beginning of Reddit, but I have been a user since 2013 and I always was confined in my little bubble of interests (I used it as a replacement of Feedly, so I pretty much created my curated content) it was not until the APIcalypse that it was mentioned over and over that r/all wasn't even that good nowadays, and I was like, bruh, I should go there often, I did, and still do, but I still browse my curated content, whether is here or Reddit.

kratoz29 ,

I must be very lucky, but I have never been annoyed at something that Google does since 2020 (the year I got an Android phone and started to root).

Hail, AdAway and Swift Backup already improve my Android experience completely.

I'm looking to drop cable but need live sports alternative.

As the title states, I currently have cable but want to cut it. I dont watch anything live anymore aside for sports. I can't buy a sports package as the local pro teams are blacked out, and you must watch on the local channel. Are there any alternatives?

kratoz29 ,

Yeah I double checked too, but it is easier to just blame them for everything am I right?

kratoz29 ,

I have only played some minutes of TWD and I like it, I'm a sucker for visual novels though.

I definitely should finish one of their games.

Android users who have a keen eye for design and detail, how is the whole stutter/lag situation? Esp. after a few years of use?

I haven't used an Android device since my last one, the Galaxy S8. Beautiful hardware, beautiful design, but it was plagued with animation stutters and dropped frames. I switched to an iPhone and an iPad around 6 years ago. And the animations were buttersmooth. It was almost unthinkable to achieve such a fluid interface on any...

kratoz29 ,

Scrolling is fucked up in most apps than it should be, change my mind.

kratoz29 ,

Good, I fucking hate using, and listening voice messages.

kratoz29 , (edited )

Excellent work boss, as always 👍🏻

Edit: Wow the messaging section is looking good, Sync for Reddit never looked that nice!

kratoz29 ,

I did that the last time and moved here ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Better management, no censorship, better uptimes and quicker upgrades, no need to look back (I moved "momentarily").

kratoz29 ,

Don't waste your time, that user is delusional.

kratoz29 ,

Yep :)

I forgot some apps or frontends might not show up instance names next to usernames.

kratoz29 ,

It hasn't banned it, but they turned it into a meme community, which can be worse than being banned.

kratoz29 ,

I moved to lemm.ee from .world the last time they banned these communities, as a momentarily fix, never cared to look back as here was better managed, no censorship, quicker updates and no noticeable downtimes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

kratoz29 ,

I did with a tool I found in GitHub long ago, I think that is not needed anymore as Lemmy has included a similar tool within the user web page settings.

kratoz29 ,

Yeah, it was very annoying because Lemmy.world was down very often, not their fault in most cases though.

Did this ever get fixed?

kratoz29 ,

Well, it is more convenient, but do you know what is even more convenient? Using a service that has all the catalogue of all paid streaming sites together, with no ads whatsoever, I'm talking about Stremio or Kodi along with a debrid account.

In a nutshell Stremio turned the hoarding me into a streaming guy.

kratoz29 ,

Same for me, I have only beaten the first title, and I struggled a lot, I think the latter titles are even harder... Oh boy.
