Material 3 is ugly. I'm gonna miss Material 2

BaardFigur ,

Given up, kinda. I still have my old s10, which I specifically use for workouts

BaardFigur , (edited )

Even if I paid for youtube premium, I wouldn't get Sponsorblock or Return Youtube Dislike, so ReVanced is still the best user experience. I also block shorts, appearently that's also ReVanced only

BaardFigur ,

Return yotube dislike

BaardFigur ,

LibreTube

BaardFigur ,

C++ programmer here, and I agree. They're way too reluctant to break old code with new standards. Backwards compatibility is in many ways killing the language

BaardFigur ,

I wouldn't call it directly piracy. Emulators lets you play games on more platforms. I love being able to play SNES games (Super Mario Island, which I already own) on my PC using an xbox controller.

BaardFigur ,

Yuzu in particular, sure.
But that doesn't mean that all emulators supports piracy.

BaardFigur ,

As if that helps. People making pokemon hacks have been gotten forced to stop by Nintendo, despite making no money.
Nintendo will likely try to sue them still

Free ProtonVPN now doesn't allow selection of specific servers and split-tunneling in its client (+ workaround for Android) ( i.imgur.com )

First of all a disclaimer: I am not upset about the removal of manual server selection as this is a free service. They don't need to provide such services at all, so something is better than nothing....

BaardFigur ,

But if you can afford it I'd recommend paying for Proton's services

I'd rather pay for Mullvads services

BaardFigur , (edited )

Some Linux distros needs to be purchased.
But that piracy forum should obviously be replaced with gog.com if we're talking about buying stuff

BaardFigur ,

Did you forget /s. Banning C/C++ is a terrible idea.

BaardFigur ,

but surely Valgrind and ilk are now capable of providing reasonable proof of memory safety

Reasonable, sure. But it's still far from being perfectly "memory safe"

BaardFigur ,

Nothing, and certainly not Rust, is "perfectly" memory safe.

I agree, which is one of the reasons I think it's a stupid rule to put in place, to begin with. A lot of so called memory safe languages are just built on top of C anyways (which is not considered memory safe).

Granted, it'd be far harder for, say, Ruby to meet those proofs than a language like Rust, but the critical point is to have a defined standard of "good enough" for languages to work towards.

True, but that's what the industry is already aiming for anyways. But vulnerabilities won't stop happening any time soon

BaardFigur ,

I don't generally watch it, generally because it's sent in the middle of the night. I don't watch much sport generally myself, but imo it's worth watching. Very fun to watch

BaardFigur , (edited )

Or even better, do both

BaardFigur ,

His first language is probably not English, why make fun of him?

BaardFigur ,

Hobbit was a word way before J.R.R. wrote his books, stupid that they were able to sue them

Love devs' attitude towards piracy, TruePianos v1.9.8 (audio VSTi plugin) ( lemmy.dbzer0.com )

This message showed when I entered the serial specifically made for pirates. Right now feeling nothing but respect for plugin devs. Next month Imma buy this plugin 100% fixed, need it or don’t need it doesn’t matter anymore lol.

BaardFigur ,

Git Fork has the same attitude. I bought it

BaardFigur , (edited )

Thepiratebay.org has been blocked for almost 10 years in Norway, now. This doesn’t make a difference, whatsoever

I feel like the Steam Deck is the best proof of Gabe Newell's quote that "piracy is a service issue."

They could have easily crammed the Steam Deck full of stuff to make it hard to use for piracy - locking down everything, making it usable only to play games you legitimately own, force you to go through who knows what hoops in order to play games on it. That’s what Nintendo or Apple or most other companies do....

BaardFigur ,

Piracy solutions can be made good too, though.

BaardFigur ,

Given enough resources anything can be done. I didn’t say it was gonna be easy. But I gotta say, probably easier to make “cracked” movies convenient than games.

To prevent cheaters from figuring out how the game worked, we removed all logging from the application

Why didn’t you just encrypt your logs, and make your company the only one to have the key to actually read it? Or is there a risk of someone reading the data in memory before it gets encrypted and written to disk?

Maybe Gnome Web? (Just kidding, probably not)

    BaardFigur , (edited )

And it doesn’t connect directly to google servers, so google doesn’t see your ip. Also, unlike the base-version of Newpipe it has sponsorblock and return youtube dislike baked in. There’s a fork that adds those back in, though.

Only drawback is that LibreTubes app is less mature. Looks sexy, but it doesn’t work that great on tablets, for example. Also the instances aren’t always online, or that fast, so sometimes viewing videos on libretube might be a struggle

    BaardFigur ,

While 0,36% doesn’t sound very high, I’m surprised that so many people are using Tizen. That’s like one of every ~330 devicds

    BaardFigur , (edited )

iOS also has a far better ratio in the western world, which I guess helps

    BaardFigur ,

What are they gonna do with your user data, if they’re not gonna get to serve you any ads, though?

Not defending them in any way, fuck ads, and fuck user data collection

    BaardFigur ,

I instantly downloaded it. It’s just so good

    BaardFigur ,

Same in Norway. I use the Yr app over google/samsung/whatever, as it uses data from the norwegian meterological institute
