I nuked my system so many times, everything from not knowing what I was doing to using disk partion when tired and forgetting to select the usb.

Good thing my intro to Linux was through servers, I have a NAS with all my work files backed up as well as a second spare SSD that clones main SSD once a week.

You just add a panel to every screen as it doesn't do it automatically, but if you want a taskbar where the open apps are visible from different monitors on the panel then you could try using kubuntu backports for kde 5 on mint, go with the minimal install. You still need to manually add the panel to extra monitors, but they are linked together.

When you add the main panel on a different screen it saves the app layout exactly, don't remember if it keeps clock the same, but you can add that yourself.

I prefer how cinnamons window manger works better, but kde is awesome so I switched.

I wouldn't call it a dangerous opinion, Ubuntu is a great starter distro and was probably top dog back then, it is just that their recent actions have been not liked by the Linux community.

I personally fell in love with opensuse tumbleweed w/ kde 6, but I do want to give fedora a try at some point as well.

From my experience, I could only tell the difference if monitor was bigger than 27" like a 32" monitor but it wasn't something that I couldn't live without, well I think it's cuz I run with 3 monitors so you are always looking at different things

Opensource app for mapping ps4 controller to android

I got a dualshock 4 controller for $10 that had pretty bad joystick shaking that I just opened up and cleaned really well, which (mostly) fixed it. I tried playing some games on PC, but I want to try some stuff on my phone now, couldn't find an app that wasn't crashing or that didn't require a mac/windows pc to work, so I want...

Don't have experience with either app but it kind of looks like a way to play games from other platforms on android, I was trying to play android games with a controller because some have controls that are weird to play with on screen.

My other option at this point might be PC emulators of android, but none of them are as good as windows emulators (like BlueStacks) on linux

I don't like when my PC/phone have a bunch of applications, so I try to delete all the ones I rarely use. Still some might find my devices bloated, but if I need/use them then I don't see an issue.

Been a few years so I don't have the link, but I bet you can find this (or something similar) online. If all else fails, I hoard all the files I used somewhere on my nas.

I've Installed multiple Linux Distros on my Editing Rig to see how well Davinci Resolve Studio works. Here are the results.

So a couple of weeks ago, I made this post asking for help from those who used Linux and Davinci Resolve, and their experience. To those who's response was effectively "I use arch btw", I hear you, but that wasn't the question I wanted to ask....

If you try something like this again, use ventoy, it let's you just drag and drop iso files onto USB and when you boot up you select which one you want to use, so no need to make USB a bunch of times.

I was thinking of cloning some android only notes app with flutter with Markdown support, but I finished learning flutter a few weeks ago... so good luck to me I guess.

Need to add "mobile view" support to your to-do list, or at least have an app in the future instead.

I recently switched to tumbleweed kde, so I tried kde connect for the hell of it, and holy crap I have been missing out.

Planning on moving over from Windows 10 to Linux for my Personal Work Station. Can't decide which OS I should switch to.

Windows has been a thorn in my side for years. But ever since I started moved to Linux on my Laptop and swapping my professional software to a cross platform alternative, I've been dreaming on removing it from my SSD....

Have you tried kde plasma 6, I have always wanted to use kde but gnome had a better experience for workspaces until 6 came out and fixed all that I wanted.

The truth about linux having 15% market share in India.

I am from india. These numbers are inflated due to our population and government and health sector office pc using linux (ubuntu). These office pcs just require a chrome browser and all the work is done on the browser Nobody here cares what os they use in their office pc. I don't see anyone here switching to linux on their...

How do I patch an android game I paid for, but now doesn't work because the devs shut a server off?

I paid for Puzzle Quest 2 on android like a decade+ ago. It is a local single-player game. It has a validation check when you open the app. That check fails because this game is ancient and the servers are offline....

Reminds me of when I was a kid and played mono monsters 1 & 2, so sad they shut it down and due to tutorial requiring you go to the shop you get stuck and unable to proceed.

When I started using Linux I distro hopped a few times before finding mint, now I have been stuck on mint for a few years, but I still dream of hopping again.

When I was hopping I was in high school, so I had time, now I got to work and hopping takes too much time and effort to set everything up again. If I had a second pc or a laptop I would do it.

I second this, Ubuntu gnome feels more like Mac UI in my opinion.

Hi Bob.

Sorry I had to do this reference from "For All Mankind"

TachiyomiSY devs have announced to work on a new "spiritual successor" of Tachiyomi ( ani.social )

This message has been posted on their discord server yesterday, currently the app is being worked on and has no definitive ETA. We probably have to use other forks until that. I don't know whether I can share the discord server's link so not sharing that until a mod gives heads up.

I prefer Linux mint, but I did for about half a year use Pop!_OS and it is a really solid distro.

Also, honestly how often due you need to disassembled your system and the logo just needs some sticker friends https://www.stickermule.com/unixstickers

Really glad for you, hope you enjoy your new laptop.

Looking for Notes App for Android & Linux

I am trying to slowly de-Google-ify myself by moving to open source apps, I wanna ditch google notes and evernote. I tried obsidian, standard notes, and joplin, I liked using obsidian on PC and standard notes looks nice on android but obsidian you need to pay to have sync and standard notes doesn’t do markdown unless you pay...

At the very least most of the recommendations are not run my multi billion/million companies like Google keep, notion, and evernote who are always suspicious in what they do on the side.

After using owncloud, nextcloud, and file browser, I found file browser to be a lot easier to use and it does everything I need. I don’t need video players or PDF viewer, just simple ui for file broswing.

Is there a program I can use to download and browse music, similar to Spotify?

For a few years now, I’ve been using and paying for Deezer, but recently they’ve started to do away with the features that I preferred about their platform, so I’m wondering of there is any options for me here.

Try one of those endurance micro SD cards, since you dont need a lot of storage for OS they should be pretty cheap like 32gb is like $12.

I am unsure of what or how many files you need but ever think about using something like a flash drive to save your files to it and then wiping drive? I know sometimes you get so caught up with complex problems that you forget about the simple solutions.

Best <$400 USD Ultrabook for Debian 12

I’m trying to downsize from an aging gaming laptop to an ultrabook I can use for writing, web browsing, and JavaScript / Python web development. I understand an ultrabook will be a downgrade in the performance department, but I don’t need all the performance my current laptop offers....

Lenovo Thinkpad and Dell latitude laptops are usually great for reliability and repairability, ifixit has repairability scores if you’re ever curious www.ifixit.com/laptop-repairability

EDIT: HP also scores high on a few of their products but I find the company to be quite annoying with their proprietary crap and general business practices (e.g. printer subscriptions)
