I've always liked Kbin's design and funcionality more than Lemmy, but the latter is more popular and sometimes posts/comments won't load properly on Kbin, so I've stuck with Lemmy for now.

No matter how many of these “spiders are actually cute” posts I see I simply cannot be convinced that they’re cute. Macro lenses don’t make them look any less horrifying to me.

Kind of tangential but towards the end of HS we had this ongoing trend of wearing costumes to school every wednesday. Some of the class participated more often than others, some (including me) barely participated at all.

There was one week where everyone was determined to participate though, because we had planned for boys to go dressed as girls and vice-versa. I still didn’t really care to join them but some friends of mine said they’d lend me some of their clothes and makeup so I’d have no excuse to not participate.

What I didn’t anticipate is that they’d dress me up just like the guy in the pic, only difference being that I’m underweight, not overweight. Still looked like a fool though, but that was part of the fun, not some pseudo political statement.

Anyways, tangent over.

What’s even more ironic is that we basically don’t need human data anymore to create AI that classify objects or detect their boundaries. With algorithms like DINO we don’t even need labeled data at all, you just throw images at it and it learns on its own.

Google spent all this time collecting data through CAPTCHAs to train AI and now it might as well be obsolete.

Somehow I still haven’t seen that message despite also using uBlock and Firefox. Perhaps I’m just further down the line and Google will eventually come for me too, but I wonder if my DuckDuckGo and Privacy Badger extensions may also have something to do with it.

It's hard to say exactly what actually happened because all we have are account from users who were active back then, but I can't seem to find any archives of the moderator list. Some old Reddit users say that it was indeed possible to add people as moderators without their consent (something I noticed recently that you can also do on Lemmy, hope it gets fixed soon 🙊) , and apparently this was commonplace. Beyond user accounts it's unclear when and how he was added as moderator, for how long he was a mod or how active he was on the sub.

I tried looking for some archives of the subreddit and spez's account, however I didn't find anything that helpful. I only found two archives on archive.is from 2010 and 2011 (which I'm not gonna link here for obvious reasons), and the moderator lists didn't include spez. I also tried looking at archives of his userpage to see if he was listed as a moderator of the subreddit, but it looks like Reddit only added the list of moderated subreddits to the userpage after r/jailbait had already been banned.
