I’d rather get a proper desktop Linux GUI, as it is on Windows

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Wait Steam Deck now runs Desktop mode in Wayland?

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

On launch Steam Deck had it’s desktop/Plasma session set to X11, hence my question

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

+1, I have huge issues with Electron apps running on native Wayland.
Fractional scaling doesn’t work, when I maximise an app it’s not covering my whole screen, same happens when manually resizing windows. What’s worse some apps do scale button positions, ex. native Discord, so when I click a button, something else to the left gets clicked.
XWayland works fine though

KDE's NeoChat is written in Qt if I'm not mistaken

I found it to be very buggy, usually had UI rendering issues

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yes, I like the transparency and want to help KDE however I can

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yesn't. Look at HeSuVi and their process of making your own HRTF profiles. Once you'll get impulse files you can use them with pipewire, they have a preset designed specifically for HeSuVi profiles.

It's a lengthy process but the end result is roughly the same as with DTS Sound Unbound

Not sure if relevant but I've noticed in Hunt: Showdown I keep going too far in an item selector, but only when scrolling downwards. However it doesn't happen outside of games (Xwayland issue?)

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It's just a check, doesn't actually try to load it

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I find it funny it's called an American product as its iconic design was made by a Brit, CPU is manufactured in Taiwan and the rest is made and assembled in China

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Ye, since Plasma 5.24 I think. Used to occasionally switch to X11 for competitive gaming, but as of Plasma 6 their Wayland compositor supports fullscreen tearing, so now I have no need to use X11 anymore

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

X apps can read all of your keystrokes. Wayland by default doesn't allow this, and because of that apps running on XWayland can ex. have it's global shortcuts broken. Plasma already had an option to change this behaviour back in 5.27. I guess they changed it from "Never" read keystrokes to "Only with modifier keys", as a default.

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I have the same issue, even at Plasma 5 I'd have my mouse pointer change. This happens only on Wayland though

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It works for me as well - Asus VG259Q. I'm surprised my screen even has this feature, and even more surprised you can do that over DisplayPort. Even Windows doesn't have that lol

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Hm, maybe it's an issue specific to your screen? On my end the brightness adjustment is instant

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Oh, it's the same then, thought we were talking about delay in seconds x3

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Does it come with a native Wayland support, or is it still X only?

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

FYI there's an open-source project "Monado" which attempts to reverse-engineer inside-out tracked headsets. At the moment their WMR support looks promising, headset has 6-DoF tracking and just recently controller tracking has been figured out.

Said progress will trickle down to the Oculus Rift S as well

Never used Plex but maybe you could repackage the DVD content into MKV with MKVtoolnix, without recompression

AMD GPUs are cursed for me

Each time I try AMD graphics, something is fucked for me. Back with fglrx, fglrx just sucked, so I used Nvidia. Then I had an AMD right around when they finally had opensource drivers, but it was still buggy as hell. So I went with Nvidia again (first a GTX 790, then a GTX 1060). In the meantime I had a new work notebook where I...

Polaris GPUs had very weak video encoders, I also had an RX 580 and had issues on Linux as well as Windows. To my knowledge the AMF encoders worked better for those, but I could never get them working with OBS

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

What happened during the DiRT 3 benchmark lol, this game easily goes above 200 fps

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

To my knowledge it's impossible in X, unless you run apps on separate X servers.

Wayland handles this by default, with the exception of Xwayland apps

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

If I'm not mistaken 1.75 can be correctly stored as a float, as it consists of 1/2 and 1/4 only

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Isn’t Linux about choice? If you don’t like Wayland/SystemD etc. then you can just not use it lol

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

There are some attempts at the Monado project if I’m not mistaken.

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Technically one could use a Vive tracker on top of the headset and use lighthouse tracking, this way it would be easy to use it with Index controllers

65% Linux, 19% VR and 16% Windows on my end, glad I contributed :3

Is there any issue with switching frequently between Wayland and X11?

I can’t imagine there is but I’m wondering if I am missing something. I use GeForce Now and unfortunately it does not work in Plasma Wayland (issues with input redirection). Is there any problem with logging into an X11 session whenever I want to use that but using Wayland generally?

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I had issues with Freesync, if I opened an X11 session at launch then it worked with only one screen connected, but it was reliable and didn’t need any further tinkering.

If I launched Wayland first and then switched to X11, my screen’s refresh rate would get locked on a random value. I’d have to either cycle compositing on/off, or enable the TearFree flag in xrandr.

In the end Wayland gaming got improved on Plasma 6 so I no longer use X11

The finals game doesnt run on linux so i switched back to windows 11.

Linux is all good if you only play singleplayer games. My friends started playing the finals yesterday and it doesn’t run on linux because of EAC. Windows can run all my games without any proton switching and all the nvidia features like ray reconstruction and pathtracing with frame generation just works (alan wake 2 looks so...

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The Finals use EAC and their own anti-cheat, the latter causes issues

ElectroLisa ,

How about this? gadgetbridge.org

I’m able to use it with a Mi Band 7 and I haven’t lost any of the original functionality

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Can you check which GPU APIs are being used by your games? (ex. OpenGL, Vulkan) Are those games 64-bit, or 32-bit?

Additionally, you’re not missing out on VR side. SteamVR is horrendously broken on Linux

ElectroLisa ,
@ElectroLisa@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Ye run this script which uses GCC and launches compiled result, what could possibly go wrong

Possible CPU bottleneck. Starfield is very CPU bound, this happens even at CPUs like R7 7800X3D

Nope, on Linux it’s running in the userspace
