The Energy Observer is the first zero-emission ship powered by hydrogen, solar and wind. It's been traveling the globe for 7 years as both a laboratory and a demonstration to the maritmie industry that zero emissions technology is possible. I recently visited the ship when it was docked in Boston Harbor. Full @gbhnews story is here: https://www.wgbh.org/news/local/2024-05-17/this-net-zero-boat-could-revolutionize-maritime-travel
At our recent AC meeting Hiroshima, Japan 🇯🇵 Yosuke Kaneko, President of the Interplanetary Networking Special Interest Group (IPNSIG), spoke on his thoughts about connecting humanity even beyond the limits of our world.
He spoke about the potential to create a communications network from Earth to the Moon, and even to Mars 🌎 🌖 ✨
@leean00 true! the International Space Station has more visiting people than living there. but if you think of what else is in space - satellites (including those which make GPS work) orbiting the earth and moon; telescopes like Webb and Hubble; probes; and possible future trips to Mars, having a system for overall connected makes sense.
Dropped some updates to selfh.st/apps this morning - tiles now have visible/clickable tags, URL properties have been added for sharing custom views with others, and I've added a ton of new project icons.
I'm completely open to feedback on future improvements, but probably won't consider adding any more details to the tiles to prevent them from becoming too cluttered.
Raspberry Pi IPOs, software launches, updates, a spotlight on #Wag - a #WireGuard management solution with client #MFA support, and more in this week's self-hosted recap!
The current frequency of language usage on the Web (e.g. 52% of websites in English) doesn't reflect the diverse cultural and linguistic needs essential for global access, highlighting the importance of internationalization (i18n).
Fuqiao Xue, @w3c i18n activity lead, gave a comprehensive report of past and future @webi18n work, collaborating with spec and #browser#developers to address gaps, particularly for endangered scripts and #languages.
@PixelBandits I've been playing Vampire Survivors again recently because of the DLC and updates. Symphony of War is quite a good tactical RPG with an interesting story; I'm about a third of the way through at the moment.
Prodeus is a great old-school 'boomer shooter' with good level and monster design. Recommended.

My grandparents were ferocious scrabble players, and I grew up with the rules being "if the biggest dictionary in the house says it's not a proper noun, and abbreviation, or a foreign term, it's legal". I remember going out one time to get my grandmother a new Word Book, because hers was literally falling apart.
I don't play - not good at that stuff - but I know the basics.
At the @w3c member meeting in Hiroshima 🇯🇵 last month, @torgo presented the @tag work, illustrating how the W3C TAG (Technical Architecture Group) offers technical leadership through the "Securing the Web" case study, and using the design principles for new web features as an additional example.
Hey #ttrpgcommunity ! I'm prepping some free content for my solo RPG Dungeons of Galora that will be rolled out on itch.io next month and I just finished the cover art I'll be using for it!
Large Language Models (LLMs) are being distributed across many devices and platforms. Having these models available on-device can help reduce the need for sending private data to cloud-hosted systems.
At the @w3c member meeting last month in #Hiroshima 🇯🇵, Chunhui Mo (Huawei) explored what it would take to expose these LLMs to #WebApps through a Web #API and the advantages it could bring in terms of #privacy, #security and #performance.
