I thought I was Margot Robbie, but it turns out I’m Rachel Keller. No regrets, she’s equally beautiful.

(This is an anonymous account. As my nickname, I chose the character named Sydney Barett, who I was very impressed with while watching Legion.)

If Zed goes wrong, can we just fork it? If yes, I’d like to use it.

The CLA stuff made me suspicious but probably you’re right.

I’m using it for 2 years. Nothing bad so far.

There is a crate which maintained by @nutomic: https://crates.io/crates/activitypub_federation

I believe it should be compatible with other projects 🤔

I was going to buy the newest Galaxy this year. What a shame they decided to bloat it even more.

You can use alternatives to Apple’s phones, tablets, desktops, headphones; but there is no Macbook alternative. It is just too good for mobile usage. Fortunately it ain’t restricted as iPhone’s.

I'm full-time arch user btw but sometimes I need/want to go to office or a place like coffee shop. There I'm using Macbook. My pros are:

  • about 10 hours usage
  • no fan noise
  • fast as f*ck (not as fast as desktops TBH)
  • good screen. I can easily see screen in sunny days (I don't know about it's tech but I guess it is OLED or MiniLED)
  • and the most important pro to me is: a touch pad that optimized for laptop usage. It has so many shortcuts to use whole system with only touchpad.

There are different laptops that have some of these features, but I have yet to find one that has them all. I hope this situation will improve with ARM laptops.

I don't sit in front of the computer for 10 hours either :D However, convenience of not carrying a charging cable with me is cool. I think we can agree that the Macbook does some things differently than other laptops. While these features seem useful to me, they may be inconvenient for you.

Macbook has its own unique UX and is not generic like other laptops. When I say "there is no alternative", I actually mean that there is no laptop with Macbook-like usage. Of course, hardware can be better or worse.

Will it work with current apps like Mastodon, Lemmy, Peertube etc? I couldn't find any data about it.

Self-hosted or personal email solutions?

I have a unique name, think John Doe, and I'm hoping to create a unique and "professional" looking email account like johndoe@gmail.com or john@doe.com. Since my name is common, all reasonable permutations are taken. I was considering purchasing a domain with something unique, then making personal family email accounts for...

@syd@lemy.lol avatar

Yes you need a domain for sure. But you don’t need a server for it, in fact I don’t recommend trying to self-host mail server.

You can use Tuta, Proton Mail, Gmail or iCloud Mail services. You just need to add some DNS records to the domain to redirect mail provider.

syd ,
@syd@lemy.lol avatar

Yeah I'm also using Proton but I will switch to Tuta because it has more features I think.

Authy Desktop client will be discontinued from August 2024

Twillio just announced they're discontinuing the Desktop version of their popular Two Factor Authentication client. Their proposed solution is for users to move to the mobile app, which of course doesn't fulfill the use case of people who explicitly chose Authy because it had a desktop client....

Thankfully I’ve already switched to Bitwarden from them.

    If you don’t like their way of developing, then do it yourself, cunt.

    If I dislike a movie, book, game or food; I would criticise the movie, book, game or food and not the director’s, writer’s, developer’s or chef’s political views.

    Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying don’t criticise their political views. I’m saying don’t criticise the product because of their political views.

    So more users = less load 🤔

    syd ,
    @syd@lemy.lol avatar

    If instances shares videos with each other and distribute load of it, then yes instance count makes difference but I don’t know if it works that way.

    On the other hand, in an ideal world, if users increases then peers (users) will decrease load of instances. Which is more important I guess.

    Instances are not shadow banning, they all listed in instance list page.

    I didn’t get the mod drama thing. I guess this guy mixing instance admins with community mods.

    Also, I don’t think there is that much blocking between instances except Beehaw, since they want to create a refined user base.

    Edit: what I was telling here is only applies to Lemmy. Looks like things are different for Mastodon side. So this comment may have a realistic view. I just don’t have enough experience on there.

    syd ,
    @syd@lemy.lol avatar

    I don’t think that applies to Lemmy. lemmy.world, sh.itjust.works, lemm.ee, lemmy.ml and other big instances are all federated with each other.

    I really can’t talk about Mastodon or Kbin though.

    If a client can broke your system, then your server/protocol is problematic and not the client. Software developer teachings for starters.

    AI repos dominating the list. And there’s Angular 🤔

    WDYM so I shouldn’t make an anime flavored, Arch based distro named Archuwu?
