That’s so cool, how do you personalize it like that?

I’ve been using Fedora for a month (I just started using Linux a month and a half), and I can’t seem to find a way to do it.

That’s the problem not even the bios is reading windows after the EOS installation. I keep changing the order of things but when I boot from the other SSD it just says “checking media” and then “failed” and it gets looped over and over again.

But I can still see the windows drives and partitions from EOS… It’s the weirdest ting that I’ve seen… Would you recommend just doing a clean install of everything in that case?

I was using UEFI I think? I used Rufus to make the bootable flash drive and it just gave me either MBR or GPT, when I selected GPT it showed me the UEFI option to the right (iirc). I spent all day seeing these comments and at the end of the day I had to delete everything in my hard drives and start over again…

It’s weird, but I had Fedora installed on my secondary SSD. Apparently when I did a clean Windows install, it installed in the primary SSD but took a part of Fedora on the secondary SSD as a Windows EFI partition. Then, when I installed EOS I selected “erase the disk” for the secondary SSD. I think it erased that EFI partition and I couldn’t go back to windows, but since the primary SSD still had my files I could still see them. To be honest, something like that never happened before so I’m not even sure of what I’m saying.

I wish, I still need to use Adobe products for my job, not even sure if I can install Adobe products in Linux yet, I’m still learning haha!

After reading all these comments I just decided to format all my drives and start over. I made the mistake of installing EndevourOS at 12am when the next day I had to use Windows for my job! I did enter BIOS and changed the order but not even my BIOS recognized the OS, it just said “checking media… fail” and it fell into a permanent loop. What I said in another comment was that I thought this had happened:

It’s weird, but I had Fedora installed on my secondary SSD. Apparently when I did a clean Windows install, it installed in the primary SSD but took a part of Fedora on the secondary SSD as a Windows EFI partition. Then, when I installed EOS I selected “erase the disk” for the secondary SSD. To be honest, something like that never happened before so I’m not even sure of what I’m saying.

I’m not even sure if that’s what happened, as I’m still not an expert in these things, but when I erased the secondary SSD there was a “EFI partition” I had not seen before.

I tried all orders, there were 2 Samsung SSDs (primary and secondary), and another one called “EFI” something… When I changed the order to SSD #1 it opened EndevourOS, when I changed to SSD #2 it said “checking media… failed”, and when I put the “EFI” as the first in the order, it just restarted and went again to EndevourOS. At the end, I had to do the easiest and fastest thing: start over.

I think that when I installed Win11, it took part of my Fedora partition somehow, I’m not even sure if that’s what happened and if that is what actually happened I have no clue how it happened, but right before erasing my secondary SSD to install EOS, there was a mention of a Windows “EFI” partition there, even though I could still get into Fedora. So when I erased that, I think I erased something related to Windows that I shouldn’t have erased

redimk OP ,
@redimk@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

At the end I just erased all my disks and started all over again :( figured it was the easiest and quickest way to deal with it because I urgently needed W11 for my job, I’ll just be more ready for next time and read more about the OS before making a move so sudden like that

redimk OP ,
@redimk@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yeah, I feel stupid, I’m sorry.

So when I had Windows installed before, Windows was separated into 4 partitions, (not sure why), and then I installed Fedora on Disk1 (secondary SSD), and it looked to me (emphasis in “looked to me”) like it was only one whole partition.

However, after doing a clean W11 install it showed up as a single partition (which I was not used to) and Disk1 separated into 3 partitions, and aside from that, my laptop was no longer giving me the option to boot into either W11 or Fedora, it was just going straight to W11. That’s where my confusion was from and since I already had installed everything I needed I didn’t want to lose the progress.

I went to BIOS and it showed me that the boot menu was F12 (I didn’t know this before) and lo and behold, I am once again able to enter Fedora, it was just me being a noob and not knowing any better. Sorry for wasting everyone’s time! :(

How Do You Combat Anti-Adware Blockers on Android?

It seems like there’s been a lot more websites that have been deploying anti-adware blocker software in the past few weeks. One that stands out in particular is called Admiral (see websites like GameRant for an example)....

Option 1: Firefox (or any firefox variant like Floorp, Waterfox or LibreWolf) + uBlock Origins, if that doesn’t work -

Option 2: avoid the sites, don’t give them traffic, and -

Option 3: if you really need to read that article, use 12ft ladder and it will probably work.

For the next time, if you want .flacs, just use Soulseek.

I joined the waitlist months ago and all I heat is Bluesky is growing but I still have no news about being able to use it…

Since Brave is apparently absolutely terrible, is Vivaldi any better IF YOU CAN'T USE FIREFOX*?

I daily drive Firefox, but more and more websites are starting to break without Chromium, so I still have to occasionally switch to get something working. I was using Ungoogled Chromium until I realized that there was no easy way to update it when that pixel-stealing exploit came out a while back....

Honestly, I use FF as my primary on Linux, and Waterfox as my primary on Windows (just because it runs better than FF on Windows fir some reason). Vivaldi I use as a secibdary browser when:

  1. I need to visist a website that for some stupid reason doesn’t open on FF
  2. When I’m studying or need to have several tabs open at the same time (by several I mean 100+, Vivaldi has really good tab management)

Just started using their search engine about 2 months ago, as soon as I heard the news I just dropped it.

I like the idea but if I want to send data to bing I’d use bing tbh.

They can obviously track pirated installs.

They use computational predictions and quantum mathematical calculations through a software called trust me bro.

Isn’t this ok? I’m not saying it’s better… just OK?

I don’t know if this is just me but why is there always a race to be the “most popular/larger platform”?

Isn’t this kind of race to be the most popular the reason why a lot of platforms/companies/jobs/games/etc are suffering today? Growth for the sake of growth and forcing something to be more popular just because it needs to be more popular is just kind of sad.

It’s not like “corporate fediverse/lemmy” needs more users… At least this is my opinion.

I think this is better tbh, I personally don’t like it when piracy forums/sites/whatever piracy related thing goes too mainstream. Maybe it’s gatekeeping, I don’t know, I just don’t want another Z-Library incident.

Either way, they probably aren’t even against piracy, they’re probably just lazy and don’t want to deal with any of the issues they could potentially face down the line.

Edit - grammar

Games crashing after the prologue?

EDIT - After trying everything there is, I decided to make a new clean Windows Installation and everything worked again. So the problem was a bad Windows installation. However, I don’t know why every single game stopped working specifically after the prologue and not before or after, but it’s fixed now....

Specs are fine

AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3050Ti, and 32GB RAM, it’s a Legion 5 (2021)

All games mentioned run 100fps+ on High and I was watching the graphs, temperatures of 60-80C on the CPU and 50-75C on the GPU so those were fine (at least for a laptop)

What you’re saying makes a lot of sense, but, the weird thing is that, except for Baldur’s Gate 3, I already played all these games in my laptop before. I was just replaying them for fun, I just didn’t know if somebody else had the same issues.

I think I’ll just make another clean install and see what happens, this situation has me so confused tbh haha

redimk OP ,
@redimk@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Definitely something wrong with my OS and I’m currently making yet another clean install, because the weird thing is that I’ve played all these games before (except BG3) on the same laptop, I was just replaying them for fun.

I just wanted to see if there was someone else with the same issues or something similar.

I’ll definitely try that tomorrow when I wake up, I just did a fresh install of Windows 11 and it still won’t work, thanks for that recommendation, I have an external ssd so maybe it’ll work like that.

redimk OP ,
@redimk@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yeah I’m about to give up with these games as well and just not play them, I just finished a clean Windows install again and it still didn’t work, I feel like I’m going insane here haha

redimk OP ,
@redimk@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yep, every driver is up to date. In fact I just did a fresh windows install once again, updated all drivers once again, and the problem still persists.

The games however are stored in a secondary ssd, so the next thing I’m gonna do is install them on the main, and some of them on an external one, just in case it’s a faulty SSD.

If that’s not it then I have no clue.

I use Internet Download Manager and it has worked like a charm for me. It’s paid, but you can find the pirated version easily!

I tried JDownloader but it didn’t work for me, I’m kind of dumb though so it might have been my fault that it didn’t work in my browser/computer.

Edit: wanted to add that for torrents I’ve been using Qbittorrent, imo it’s the best

You can find it on Rutracker, that’s shere I got it from, it’s not the latest latest, but I have the v2.0.0

After reading this post I was looking on rutracker to see if they uploaded a newer version, but the website seems to be down for me at the moment.

If I understand it correctly, you go to Settings > View Type and in Fonts and Sizing you choose either “Self Text size” or “Description Size” (I don’t remember which one of the two), so you can set a larger font for the text in posts.

If that doesn’t change it then I’d suggest report as a bug mayhaps? It worked for me at least, hopefullly it does for you too!

Edit: “Description font” os for the one where the user and instance appears (e.g. (@)name(@)name.lemmy.com), you’d have to increase the one called “self text” font.

redimk ,
@redimk@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Do you have the “View Type” set as “Cards” or “Slides”? The option will only show up with any of those two types, all the other types will only let you change title and description.
