I am so sick of these rubbish licensing efforts calling themselves Open Souce. Fair code is a new atrocity.

There is no repository link. There is no open source code.

makingStuffForFun OP ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Thank you.

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell the only actual open source tool, was mermaidjs, but when it loads it says "Code editing not supported on mobile. Please use a desktop browser."

This is the problem faced. I just can't seem to find anything that's on device / local, open source, and Android.

makingStuffForFun OP ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Thank you. I just loaded obsidian, installed Excalidraw. The issue I can see, is the nodes don't link so you can drag them around. Maybe they can, but the interface is so small I can barely see it. I'll try on my tablet later and see if I can get it to work. Mermaid does sound good. I like the idea of scripting the nodes. I'll give that a crack also.

Google just killed flutter. Just so you know. They do that a lot. Be careful

Anyone who needs accessibility is screwed as Wayland takes over. Let's hope we can still choose for another say 40 years. Then, I'll be done, and Wayland can rule. Pity those who will still need accessibility options though.

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

This is exactly the problem I meant. Thank you for such a detailed overview of the issue. Most apps won't provide for it, and as you described why technically, it will mean the end of accessibility as a system whole.

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

User skullgiver provides an excellent answer as to why. It's a shame, but it's a reality that most apps won't expose themselves properly, and hence accessibility is over in Wayland. Despite their excellent efforts.

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

The world needs the ability to sync freetube and newpipe. It's the missing link for both Apps, to be usable from home, to out and about

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

I've been following it pretty closely, and haven't seen any progress as yet. There are many github conversations, but nothing seems to have ever come of it.

I assume the challenge would be having the two different storage formats be able to be interchanged?

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Here's a thread that sort of just... finishes nowhere.

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

There is Talon Voice. It's not FLOSS, nor even Open Source in any way. But it's good.

I'll watch this thread as I'm keen to know myself.

Incredibly dark. That's a harrowing read. Why do UK citizens allow this? I had always seen them as a mix of 'ard' and 'smart as hell'. But this. This just shames them.

Use it on my lenovo carbon x1 flawlessly. Love it.

Isn't Google dismantling the flutter team?

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

So far we've been lucky. But, we are concerned with some of our stack. We help where we can, but it's a bit of an unknown. The google graveyard basically screams to keep away from any of their tech.

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

I'm also interested, so I hope you don't mind me joining the ride. Personally, I'd like a self hosted tool, but am happy to see what the community says.

makingStuffForFun OP ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Thank you for that link. I guess my concern here is in the same way that N8N charges and changes what it charges for, this tool might end up in a cycle where it clamps down on what you can and can't do and I end up heavily restricted. This is what is happening with N8N, so I am a little bit concerned about tools like this.

makingStuffForFun OP ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

That seems to be the consensus, I will definitely try it out. Thank you

makingStuffForFun OP ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Thank you for the recommendation, I will have a look at it as it seems to be the most likely option.

makingStuffForFun OP ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

For now, but the writing on the wall in the forums is that the self hosted version will also have a reduction of capabilities in time. The owner has posted in a forum thread that he doesn't feel that just because you self host that you should also get it completely unrestricted. And that is fine, it is their own commercial system, but I am looking for something that does not impose restrictions. I am happy to pay, but the rates they are wanting are above my capabilities for what I am using it for.

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

Absolutely fascinating. I had no idea this exists and particularly that it has been updated all this time.

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

N8N is great and just keeps getting better. I can only hope enshitification doesn't ensue as it gains popularity

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

I have about 12. Anything from checking emails for something I'm expecting and telegram messaging me. Scraping game websites for deals. Auto responder emails when I'm away. Just day to day stuff to automate. But, they've restricted their cloud version and are allowing self hosted a good run still. But, I suspect they'll want more money and chase the wrong people. Self hosters.

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

I agree. It's great software. But a home user simply can't justify that price

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

The forums seem to indicate self hosters are going to be screwed in time. Fingers crossed it's not true

I use an accessibility tool called Talon Voice. It is x.org only. Will the shift to Wayland kill these tools, or is it a case of the developer needing to rewrite for wayland?

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

So because they won't, those who need accessibility, will require x.org.... forever?

makingStuffForFun ,
@makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml avatar

It really is so slow it's not study worth using unfortunately.

Syncthing and some nice caldav and you're mostly good.

makingStuffForFun ,

Maybe, but I use it all the time and it's working fine.

I ran Linux in a vm and destroyed it about... 5 times. It allowed me to really get in and try everything. Once I rana command that removed everything, and I remember watching icons disappear as the destruction unfolded in front of me. It was kind of fun.

I have everything backed up and synced so it's all fine. Just lots of reinstalling Thunderbird, Firefox, re logging into firefox sync, etc.

Once I stopped destroying everything I did a proper install and haven't looked back.

This will be my 7th year on Linux now. And I have to say, it feels good to be free.

I can't believe how good this is! I'm on a really busy street (in the middle of Sydney, George Street actually), and it's put in commas in, it handles question marks and all my texts. I can't believe how good this system is and to think that it is local and open source is so impressive.

Thanks for letting me know about the donation thing. I suffer from RSI so I'm always happy to donate to things that help. Much appreciated. And as before, this is written with the keyboard voice to text. It's now very, very noisy in a bar.

Comments no longer visible with youtube frontends?

Are comments no longer visible for anyone else using the youtube frontends? I can no longer see comments with either invidious, piped, or viewtube, and I've tried several instances of each. With invidious there's just nothing there below the video description. With viewtube I get an error message. And with piped I see...

True that. Google are starting the big crack down.

I personally feel these are the end days of what's left of the freedom internet.

Until platforms like Lemmy and mastadon and tools like blender, godot, etc etc, take over every aspect of the commercial systems, then we're beholden to the corporates.

We need to evolve, and move on.

Dell is so frustrating

Dell has got to be one of the most frustrating companies that put out a linux laptop. They put out a laptop certified for ubuntu but then never support newer releases. A big part of their hardware is always proprietary drivers like webcam, fingerprint reader etc.. Then you update to a new LTS release because lets be serious...

I have a gen 6 X1 carbon. Have Pop on it, and it's a dream. Got it new, half price from lenovo, as it was a couple years old and they were shifting stock. Best laptop I've had, and an exceptional Linux experience.
