Is this what the next Gnome will look like? Very clean.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

No, he's right. You sound like you're writing a corporate ad.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

As a cell stage game Thrive is pretty good. As a realistic successor to SPORE it's terrible; more than a decade and they've never managed to get anywhere beyond the cell stage.

The cell stage is getting better with each update, sure, but it seems like they haven't even touched any other elements of their game.

Enjoying a stable OS?

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Cutting edge versions aren't stable either. You're essentially a beta tester for new features that may end up in an LTS release.

I'd rather have an LTS release where things have generally been tested well enough to warrant an LTS release.

The space sim lidt seems to be missing Vega Strike.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Been a long time since I played it myself, but it was my first introduction to space sims.

Development of the game picked up again just a year or so ago, after a long time of hiatus.

Yeah, the game looked nice over 15 years ago, but the graphics haven't updated at all, so the visuals are incredibly dated. Gameplay is still quite solid, though, and the background simulation aspect of the game is still on-par with Elite Dangerous, so I'd say it's a pretty good choice if someone is looking for a FOSS space sim.

I'd rather be able to stream a file from my PC via VLC to other people with VLC.

If that's already a thing, then I guess I just gotta figure it out...

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I know about RTPM, but what I meant was more akin to streaming the file itself.

Take for example, me and my friends want to watch a movie. One of us has the movie. We all have VLC. The one with the movie loads the file, the others... Somehow... Connect to the VLC with the loaded file and have it directly stream to their own VLC.

Not to be that guy

Are y'all actually torrenting Linux ISOs. Cus I recommend. Its way faster and fun to have a collection of like 30 distros and try and new branch of the larger Linux tree. I just assume its a joke but I only started torrenting Linux ISO because of seeing it replied so much lol.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I always torrent large FOSS projects where possible. It's faster and doesn't tax the servers of the project.

That's not piracy, though, so I'm not sure why it's being talked about here...

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. I'm running Ubuntu and I have recently changed the desktop environment from Gnome to KDE.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I've managed to switch from GNOME to KDE, removing GNOME afterwards, and it was quite painless.

KDE 6 isn't available yet, though. The first one to get the new KDE is the distro it's made for, so Arch, I think. Everyone else gotta wait, and it could be a while.

As someone who didn't have a computer and had to install everything on a USB drive at some point, I absolutely LOVE portable .exe's. Don't see why anyone would have a problem with it. Don't see a problem with aopimages either.

Tattorack ,

I don't understand how someone can have 10 or more tabs open. The times when I have "many" tabs open is when I'm looking for references while doing art, and that still hardly ever surpasses 5 tabs! XD

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I've never used snaps and never been forced to use them.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

But I just installed Firefox with apt-get. Fairly certain it doesn't install the snap version that way.

Tattorack OP ,

Pretty sure the whole talk around this flashcard is that entirely no modding whatsoever is required. Just insert and play.

Tattorack OP ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

The video said as much. Although this depends on how the card works with certificates. Right now the only thing we have is a promise by the creators. It will be interesting to track the development and discussion of this on GBAtemp.

Personally, though, I don't actually need this. I got a Steam Deck. It handles Switch games much better than I expected when the Deck was first announced and I can play online with friends who also use emulation.

Tattorack OP ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I still have my TTDS card from way back in 2005. It still works with the 3DS thanks to a homebrew app.

Tattorack OP ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I've been playing Breath of the Wild, Mariokart 8, and Super Mario Wonder.

Breath of the Wild has the same framerate issues as the Switch, Mariokart 8 runs super smooth, Super Mario Wonder has the occasional stutter, but given how new the game is om confident that'll be resolved with a few updates.

But… That depends on the magic, doesn’t it? I’d argue you could easily use magic to fix disabilities. Or do healers not exist in your world?

Stremio is a video player that can run videos directly from certain Web sources.

The part of interest here is it can run directly from torrent magnet links too.

It has serie and movie browsing capabilities similar to a streaming service, and the interface also looks that way too. With plugins you can see various sources to stream the movies and series from, which includes plugins from various torrent trackers.

Ongoin series you want to follow can be added to your library. Doing so will add a calendar showing you on which days new episodes will drop, and notify you when they do.

I feel like the Steam Deck is the best proof of Gabe Newell's quote that "piracy is a service issue."

They could have easily crammed the Steam Deck full of stuff to make it hard to use for piracy - locking down everything, making it usable only to play games you legitimately own, force you to go through who knows what hoops in order to play games on it. That’s what Nintendo or Apple or most other companies do....

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

This was already proven at the height of Netflix, before streaming service hell.

What was it the rules of the internet again?

TITS or GTFO.

There’s also Girl = Guy In Real Life.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Oh, I never read nfo files, so I never knew. ^^;

Theory requires a working model. What you got can’t even be considered a hypothesis.

Tattorack OP ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Ah, so a kindle needs to be jailbroken/rooted for sideloading books.

Also, this is the third mention of turning on airplane mode. Is this to stop Amazon from doing something to the Kindle?

Tattorack OP ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Right… Yeah, I would like to get rid of the ads. It sounds absurd that I pay for the device but then have to pay again to get rid of ads.

I’m not sure if Danish libraries do E-Books. I could check after work, though. But the fun part is I already have a library card; the health insurance card all Danish citizens get counts kinda like an everything card, including lending books. ^^

Anyway, I got some authors on my radar already. Like for instance I have only read a fraction of what Terry Prachet wrote, and I never finished the Hitchhiker’s trilogy.

Tattorack OP ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

I’ll keep that in mind.

I wanted to switch to Linux for several years because I was very sick of how Windows did things.

With Valve doing Proton and Windows 11 being a much shittier Windows 10… With rumours of it eventually becoming a FORCED update!.. I decided to actually switch to Linux last November.

Haven’t regretted it. Haven’t used any other OS since.

Popcorn Time is still alive!?

I remember using it a lot but that was years ago. Overnight it got driven into the ground by copyright. I never heard it made a comeback.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Oh I’ve been using Stremio for a while. But I’ll poke the Web about Popcorn when I’m home.

Tattorack ,
@Tattorack@lemmy.world avatar

Well… He’s not wrong. The French don’t like themselves either… ^^;
