I've never heard of it, did it serve as inspiration for Natural Selection?

Midnitte ,

Not sure how you'd be able to search for open issues to ensure you wouldn't be posting a duplicate, but the Github CLI has a way to open issues.

Midnitte ,

Sort of makes you realize how daunting self driving cars are.

Midnitte ,

RISC-V itself is open source, and this board seems fairly open

Midnitte ,

...messages that included “I dream of breaking the siege,” “Come together in peace” and the number of Palestinian children killed in Gaza since war between Israel and Hamas broke out in October.

...the administration said the messaging was “threatening, intimidating and antisemitic,” according to an email from Eric Kaler, Case’s president.

Right... tell me again how afraid you are at looking at reality?

Midnitte ,

Oh, well that's interesting.

Midnitte ,

broader cost cutting

They're just stripping everything down to save money, as every company that ever buys another company does.

This was entirely predictable (plus, they purchase IP, not people).

Midnitte ,

Agreed, but it certainly seems to be.

Can somebody explain why game makers don't start their own companies together?

It seems like every other week a game studio is massively laying off employees; sometimes after years of development. What I'm reading is that it's a quick way to lower expenses and pad the investors' pockets, flooding the market with developers and reducing their value, to then hire them back a few months later at lower...

Midnitte ,

Probably because the owners want to take all of the profit and employees do not have the capital to make the investment.

It takes a certain benevolent capitalist to convert their business to employee owned (Bobs Red Mill intensifies). Such businesses only represent 12% of the private sector

Midnitte ,

Using LM Studio would be even easier to get started

Midnitte ,

(Also as a side note, I find it wild how much Microsoft spent on Bethesda just to cut so many of those studios.)

It's easy to understand when you realize that purchase wasn't about talent, it was about IP.

Now sure, closing these studios and preventing the development of new exclusives is leading to Sony eating their lunch now, but longer/very short term it leads to them developing exclusives with their IP at a cheaper cost. It's just all about cost cutting to make pretty line go up.

Midnitte ,

Maybe they just need a friend to fill in the void that they're trying to fill with power and money.

Midnitte ,

Ford and GM are probably regretting that switch to NACS...

Why? For one, Ford has scaled back it's EV transition in favor of hybrids now, and two, there's now a bunch of engineers looking for a job and charging sites up for grabs

Midnitte ,

This.

If automakers were truly scared, Ford wouldn't be scaling back it's EV plans.

Midnitte ,

Which we won't get with Ford deciding instead to focus on hybrids.

Instead, the Blue Oval wants to focus on making more hybrids instead and says it will have hybrid options for all its internal combustion engine-powered vehicles by 2030.

Also, apparently, people quite like the EV Mustang.

But with Mustang Mach-E sales up 77 percent to 9,589 sold, and a 148 percent growth for the E-Transit, Ford is the country's second-bestselling EV brand.

Midnitte ,

I doubt it will since Epic is the publisher...

Midnitte ,

Seems like there's not many sources for this particular story, perhaps this is slightly better?

Midnitte ,

Amazing that a company so focused on AI would lay off their entire team for the language that is the foundation of AI research and runs the web's largest video site — after record profits and their first time offering dividends.

Midnitte ,

I guess blind people really aren't human... (/s)

Midnitte ,

Arstechnica has a good article explaining.

Now, for the user above, I'm not entirely sure what they're talking about since this isn't a bill that has been passed, but net neutrality is to protect consumers - it's to ensure large companies cannot stack the deck to make you use their preferred (owned) services.

Midnitte ,

no idea what the initial commenter is complaining about.

Indeed, and now thanks to the other comment I can reference that they're just mad that bitch is eating crackers.

Midnitte ,

For most people (for the time being), the most important benchmark will be how the emulator/translation layer performs for their most common programs.

Chrome, Firefox, and more obviously already have ARM builds, but most programs do not, not to mention device drivers that will need to be recompiled for ARM.

There's an Arstechnica article that goes into it, hopefully it works well and both MacOS, Windows, and Linux users will be able to reap the resulting benefits

Midnitte ,

This plus the installation of bullshit games like Candy Crush (glares at Samsung)...

They're Looting The Internet ( www.wheresyoured.at )

This is the state of the modern internet — ultra-profitable platforms outright abdicating any responsibility toward the customer, offering not a "service" or a "portal," but cramming as many ways to interrupt the user and push them into doing things that make the company money. The greatest lie in tech is that Facebook and...

Midnitte ,

Redefine the internet and the definition of web 3.0 - the future should be decentralized and interoperable, not a bag holding contest for the ultra wealthy.

Midnitte ,

Nice, hopefully they pick randomly for those of us at work coming home to the news. 😅

Midnitte ,
spoiler

...you mean the girl (at the beginning of the episode, shown to be an A+ in all "stats") that took on a man post coitus and still was thrown around the room and only survived thanks to the blender?

Seemed pretty realistic, and Fallout to me.

Midnitte ,

They also reference it during Cooper's party and he mentions that they used his actual dog for the "in universe" version of the movie.

Midnitte ,

The way they introduce it is great too, using the flashbacks.

Midnitte ,

Elon is fucking weird.

The account

One post replying to bitcoin advocate Michael Saylor asked whether he liked “Japanese girls” and another response to a post about FTX employee Caroline Ellison included the reply “I [heart] librarians”.

Confirmation of operating the account

Midnitte ,

More yellow more common, more blue less common

Midnitte ,

Besides the inkling of mod support, it will be interesting to see what they add/ change. The screenshots don't seem all that revolutionary?

Midnitte ,

Had not heard of this software, interesting...

Will need to see how it compares to Notion for class notes

Midnitte ,

Toyota should sign with someone to help facilitate EV development. Having one model (bZ4X) really isn't all that impressive.

Midnitte ,

Announcing stuff is great, but it's not yet 2025.

That also would mark only 2 models, as great as a 100% increase is.

Magnets are switching up the keyboard game with an additional keystroke setting ( techcrunch.com )

These keyboards rely on magnets and springs and activate by sensing changes in the magnetic field. Popularized by Dutch keyboard startup Wooting, these switches rely on the Hall Effect and have actually been around since the 1960s....

Midnitte ,

QMK etc do something similar, where holding the key doesn't keep spamming it, it does a different keystroke, Miryoku is a pretty extreme example.

Midnitte ,

Which is funny because Meta has wanted to avoid the "information arbiter" label to avoid the regulations it would inevitably impose.

But I guess no company can resist eating the cake once they have it.

Midnitte ,

Seems like a fairly good option.

I was looking forward to this kickstarter, but it's been months without a launch so I'm thinking it's just vaporware at this point.

This camera captures 156.3 trillion frames per second ( www.engadget.com )

Scientists have created a blazing-fast scientific camera that shoots images at an encoding rate of 156.3 terahertz (THz) to individual pixels — equivalent to 156.3 trillion frames per second. Dubbed SCARF (swept-coded aperture real-time femtophotography), the research-grade camera could lead to breakthroughs in fields studying...

Midnitte ,

I feel like the book I, Robot provides some fascinating insight into this... specifically Liar

Midnitte ,

Really wish I could convince local government entities to switch to Mastodon - my local police said it was "subject to O.P.R.A." and needed to meet retention rules (if you rolled your own...), and the state wildfire commission said they were looking at Threads :/

So instead, both are still stuck on the platform that requires a login to see posts and filled with nazis.

Midnitte ,

Although it is now called "deactivate"

Which is funny, because after doing so they give you a popup messaging explicitly stating that your account is deleted.

Can't trust them at all.

Midnitte ,

There's Matrix, but I think the under-development is a similar story there, to speak nothing of the infrastructure and UX of Discord that would be hard to pull people away from.

nrk9819 , to Firefox
@nrk9819@mastodon.social avatar

Everytime I want to love @firefox , I realize that it doesn't support View Transitions API 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Midnitte ,

Also doesn't seem like it's feature complete.

The View Transitions API doesn't currently enable cross-document view transitions, but this is planned for a future level of the spec and is actively being worked on.

Midnitte ,

Especially when it knows you have it installed because you're forced to use the Outlook 2fa function on your phone
