Did you ever see the Matrix? Remember how Cypher sold everyone out to the machines? Same guy.

Cheradenine ,

"A successful SSID Confusion attack also causes any VPN with the functionality to auto-disable on trusted networks to turn itself off, leaving the victim's traffic exposed."

Cheradenine ,

Normally I would be with you but Lina Khan is doing good work. Blocking mergers for anti trust and working to ban non competes. Now putting automakers on notice about telemetry.

Cheradenine ,

That's definitely a big issue with these. This one ships with Android 13, its very likely that it will never get an update or security patch after release.

From a security/privacy standpoint these are bad. I have not seen any custom ROMs for any of them, for the usual reasons, limited uptake, Mediatek processors, unreleased source code.

If none of that is important to you, then they seem to work pretty well. An old coworker had one, I used it briefly a few times. Battery life was great, seemed to get reception where other devices didn't, hers was waterproof, and survived many drops. It was great for site surveys in the back of Bourke.

I wouldn't use one, but if none of what I consider the downsides was an issue then its a phone with good specs (Android version notwithstanding) for very reasonable money.

They are good, but do not meet the 'does not delete for inactivity' requirement. They delete after one year.

    Cheradenine ,

They require an invitation though, correct?

    Cheradenine ,

Thanks, didn't know they had changed. Been a long while since I looked at them

Trying to understand Consent Forms, Cookies and Third-Party Vendors ( slrpnk.net )

Yo peeps, I'm currently looking into TCF Vendors, Ad partners and their whole corporate greed hellhole of tracking. I am writing a paper on this, and would like for everything to be factually correct. However, I am struggling to understand one particular part of this "transparency framework" and hope someone can help me clarify...

    Cheradenine ,

As a guess I would say that means they don't set cookies themselves, they do use cookies that are set by different services.

Which would be a nice way for them to not have legal responsibility.

    Cheradenine ,

I can't visit them directly (they are on 5 different DNS block lists). Looking at Internet Archive I would say it's cookies set by Google, probably through Firebase Analytics, maybe AdMob.

    Cheradenine ,

That would be a bonus for me. I never use it.

    Cheradenine ,

No, I do not. It is possible to get around without GPS, has been for millennia. I don't need it, don't want it, if you do that's fine.

What are your thoughts on invizible pro ? ( f-droid.org )

The app seems fairly small in size compared to orbot which is really old and also invizible pro seems to do a ton of things including firewall vpn etc . So does it connect to tor network properly and pass all your traffic through it as good as orbot and completely block internet acces to not whitelisted services as good as...

    Cheradenine ,

I used it previously then switched to RethinkDNS.

I like the blocking abilities and the logging more with RethinkDNS. I never used I2P so that was moot for me.

With RethinkDNS I can pick the Hagezi blocklist and No Facebook, as an example, quite easily. I can also individually block domains and IPs. Dnscrypt doesn't allow that much precision.

It also has features like allow/disallow only on WiFi or data, block apps not in use, block all apps when device is locked, plus a bunch more stuff.

It integrates with Orbot, but Orbot must also be installed.

Really I can't say anything bad about InviziblePro, I prefer RethinkDNS, you might not though.

    Cheradenine ,

I prefer the RethinkDNS firewall as it is more granular in what it can block. Say you have the Wikipedia app, you can block intake-analytics.wikimedia.org and still allow meta.wikimedia.org

InviziblePro can be setup to start on boot. DnsCrypt, Tor, and I2P can all be toggled individually in the settings.

    Cheradenine ,

Yes, Tor can be set to start on boot, and there is a run all traffic through Tor setting. I'm pretty sure I remember one time when Tor failed during a session and things still worked though. With RethinkDNS this does not happen tough. When Orbot loses connection, quits, whatever, RethinkDNS will still send it traffic (if configured to do so) but it will not leave the device because Orbot is not running.

Like I said, I really prefer RethinkDNS

    Cheradenine ,

Hmm, I've never had an issue with it. Orbot itself sometimes has problems, but even that is becoming rare in my use.

    Cheradenine ,

NB I have not used LibreWolf, I don't think there are any site specific toggles in about:config. This probably doesn't help but some Android Webviews do allow this.

You probably considered this already but as a workaround could you use one browser when you need WebGL and another when you do not.

    Cheradenine ,

Remember that the bar for entry for a lot of these things is going to be a trip hazard for most Lemmings.

I actually explained 419 scams to someone last week when they got a reasonably well crafted one. There are a lot of people who believe in Nigerian Princes.

That should be my new alt

    Cheradenine ,

Unfortunately they are the example, there isn't anything better.

    Cheradenine ,

Agreed. If I am not in contact with you there is a reason.

Do you take pictures with GPS tags on?

Hiya, so quickly wondering wether you have enabled this or not. Obviously it's not great for privacy, but it also seems very nice to have for image cloud solutions, so that images can be sorted based on location. Are there any good solutions for this? I'd like have it enabled, but also afraid of sharing images with sensitive...

    Cheradenine ,

I keep location, WiFi, and Bluetooth off always. To each their own.

    Cheradenine ,

There is data. I said location, WiFi, and Bluetooth. I don't need them for anything I do.

    Cheradenine ,

You know that review is 17 months old right?

    Cheradenine ,

Well I don't understand linking to a review of an outdated version.

    Cheradenine ,

Have you tried setting a custom DNS? I have an old iPhone I use for reading when I have my coffee (no Sim}, I use ControlD on it and am happy.

    Cheradenine ,

Have you tried the app Lockdown? It's a firewall (free) and VPN (optional, paid). The firewall seems to work quite well, at least according to their logs, and it's open source.

    https://lockdownprivacy.com/

ETA: not to be confused with lockdown mode

    Cheradenine ,

I used it previously, not I2P though. Then I switched to RethinkDNS which I like better since it allows more control over what apps can do. It integrates with Orbot, so I can still use TOR.

    Cheradenine ,

Developing countries. When I lived in one a few years ago I got a Nokia brick phone the same as I had around 2002, it went 5-6 days on a charge in a place with 'random' electricity.

    Cheradenine ,

Yes, it would be great if people linked to source, then gave the archive link

    Cheradenine ,

https://rethinkdns.com/ the android app is also an excellent firewall with logging. I use a custom config on my router. I can't say enough good things about this.

    https://simplex.chat/ Android/ iOS/ macOS/ Linux/ Windows getting people to switch is a pita though.

    Cheradenine ,

Try https://github.com/MuntashirAkon/AppManager you can use Obtanium or find it on f-droid. This will scan apps for tracker and permissions (and much more).

Exodus does not always report correctly, usually it misses things, but sometimes it goes the other way.

The f-droid version shows no trackers.

You would have to Allow tracking for this to work.

    Cheradenine ,

On Android you can use Stealth . That's what I use for searches that pull up Reddit posts.

It also lets you subscribe to subs without having an account if you want. You actually do not have the option to sign in on Stealth.

ETA: this works with VPNs and Orbot

    Cheradenine ,

I never said it did. If you had bothered to actually read my comment or look at the link you would have seen that I was referencing the app Stealth.

    Cheradenine ,

I only get the 'something went wrong' error when a post has been scraped, then deleted. So you go to load it but it no longer exists.

I just tried it again before replying and it worked fine for me.

    Cheradenine ,

It is odd, it still works fine for me.

That notice has been there since the third party change. Under 'Data' - 'Reddit Source' I had to change it from 'Teddit' to 'Reddit'. Teddit stopped working quite soon after the API change.

    Cheradenine ,

I am using Orbot, which always shows up as a TOR exit node. Strange that they would allow that. I always pick somewhere in western Europe so my time zone stays the same.

    Cheradenine OP ,

Thank you, that was an interesting read into more of the net than I understand.

    Cheradenine OP ,

For some of my browsers I do spoof the user agent, for others it is stock. Mull has Privacy Resist Fingerprint enabled for instance, this happens in all the browsers I have loaded. Mull, Smart Cookie Web Preview, Fennec, Iceraven, Cromite, Mulch, Fulguris, Monocles, Privacy, FOSS, DDG.

    Cheradenine OP ,
    Cheradenine OP ,

With Orbot. Changing my exit, whether country or specific IP doesn't seem to matter.

    Cheradenine OP ,

With Orbot I can use it across everything. Using TOR browser with Orbot does not seem to work.

    Cheradenine ,

Last update 2/23/23 what am I missing?

    Cheradenine ,

Which is current according to their site, 3.5.4

    I can't read archive.is links

    Cheradenine ,

I am not trying to argue but what is the issue? The site shows the same release as F-Droid.
