It think there are a lot of factors at play. Musk wants Twitter* to be an everything app and has mentioned plans to add e2e encryption to the dms. Telegram already had an iffy relationship to people who look for encrypted platforms so he probably wants to set up that idea to get people onto Twitter instead, especially as the right's relationship to the platform is absolutely getting worse.

A big chunk of far right Telegram has moved off the platform recently after quite a few of the groups that got their start from anti-lockdown demos had members get arrested for terror charges. They seem to blame the fact that Telegram is backdoored but they constantly fed-post in open unencrypted channels anyone can read anyway. The police probably do monitor those channels but if I were to guess how they got caught, my bet is honestly that they just put in reports to the cops about each other because being fascists usually goes hand in hand with being horrible people.

I'm not sure how much he actually reads on far right Telegram but there is evidence of him at least following some channels where this sentiment can be seen. If I were to guess he saw oppotunity in bringing that audience back to Twitter.

CatTrickery ,

Best option I have found is cloudstream though you might have to search a bit for the repos.

CatTrickery ,

Install gtk3-classic and force Xwayland by setting WAYLAND_DISPLAY= if you want server side decorations. If you want theming, install libadwaita-without-adwaita-git

Whilst you shouldn't need a hack like this, it seems to be the best way to resolve blinding white applications in the middle of the night.

CatTrickery ,

How are people installing it on Linux these days? Arch specifically.

CatTrickery ,

All I want is the ability to disable client side decorations without having to force xwayland with gtk3-classic

CatTrickery ,

I think that is likely since 3.3 wasn't included either and that is one of those versions people stuck with for ages.

CatTrickery ,

I had a job like that and powershell was a godsend. I let it slip when I accidentally set the multiplier for the delay randomiser too low and it did a months work in a morning. I ended up writing a guide for the others there when I left but sadly everyone but me had computers that supported newer versions of Windows where the scripts ended up broken. They asked me to come back and update it the Monday after I left. I asked if they would pay me to do it. They said no. Then I said no.

CatTrickery ,

It basically works with nothing to a reasonable extent on Android.

CatTrickery ,

Since scrapping systemd, a hell of a lot less but it can occasionally be a bit of messing about when my dynamic ip gets reassigned.

CatTrickery ,

I just saw this and immediately felt struck with terror about how this will be used. Cops will fill it with tear gas and I suspect it will be used at ita full force against Palestinians.

CatTrickery ,

They already try, so you just update to the next version. Revanced recently had a thing where every video you tried to play would redirect to another video saying to update your app. I did and it worked.

CatTrickery ,

Alpine, by its use of musl over glibc doesn't support DNS over TLS because the musl creator believes its better for user experience. It is in theory but if the other end uses it, you are out of luck and will likely spend days troubleshooting why one bit of software refuses to connect.

CatTrickery ,

PostmarketOS has had really strange priorities lately. I'm not a fan of the whole ethos of Ubuntu mobile (including their use of SystemD) but at least they have stuck to actually getting every feature working on some devices with reasonable specs. My computer uses KDE and OpenRC and has far fewer issues than it did on SystemD. This feels like a waste of resources to reinvent the wheel.

CatTrickery ,

De-arrow is a godsend for these thumbnails.

That being said, I set a "Don't recommend channel" on Brodie Robertson because he took part in harassing a developer about some barely nsfw furry art being hidden in some software but refuses to block Nazis from his mastodon profile. It seemed like a double standard that demonstrated tolerance for said Nazis.

CatTrickery ,

Its trickier to piece together what happened now but if you search "thorium browser furry", you'll probably find a few posts about it. There was a hell of a lot of misinfo including about it being CP for some reason when iirc it was just an anthropomorphic dog with the camera facing upwards towards them wearing panties or something like that.

CatTrickery ,

If you are on Android, repainter can be really nice to find an accessible background/foreground combo using the new Material You theme engine. I get the impression it wasn't designed for that purpose but it does the job if you try to use mostly Material You apps.

CatTrickery ,

Chris Titus convinced Brodie not to make a video on it after Brodie took an active role and Chrisb took a passive role in the dogpile on Twitter.

CatTrickery ,

Anyone willing to test performance etc on Pascal? I'm not particularly confident swapping drivers back and forth since my system is already slow and unstable.

CatTrickery ,

It does sadly enable algorithms to promote such ideologies and push people down the alt right pipeline

CatTrickery ,

A lot of people are complaining about Kagi using Brave as a backend but the alternatives aren't much better. Both Google and Microsoft are BDS for example.

CatTrickery OP ,

Read the last paragraph.

CatTrickery OP ,

I was trying to say that my desktop on Arch works fine but my server has been running various different distros being Ubuntu and OpenSuse Leap most recently.

CatTrickery OP ,

Most of the usual reasons really. Resolved, networkd and the journal were the culprits of the mess that happened last night though.

CatTrickery OP ,

I've been considering gentoo since I used it on a chromebook. I like the binary packages but I worry about stuff that isn't because the hardware is getting pretty old. I mighy try it if I replace it though.
