I like to ask a variety of questions, sometimes silly, serious, and/or strange. Never asking in an attempt to pester or “just asking questions” stuff.
I’m generally curious and/or trying to get a sense of people’s views.

KDE Connect should only enable downloading files from allowed directories, right? [issue report found, may be very old notifications]
I was working on some stuff on my PC and stepped away for a bit, and on returning noticed notifications on it that some files had been downloaded via KDE Connect from my phone. I was using my phone at the time, and didn't send the files....

Seeking a Fediverse Platform with Customizable Content Filtering
Hey fellow Fediverse users,...
Are there ActivityPub servers that can see others without necessarily connecting to them to better enable connections?
By this I sort of mean like, in the case of Lemmy for example, something like a built-in Lemmyverse of sorts....
How much maintenance do you find your self-hosting involves?
I recognize this will vary depending on how much you self-host, so I'm curious about the range of experiences from the few self-hosted things to the many self-hosted things....
What are some ways you think discoverability might be improved across federated platforms?
Discoverability in this context meaning the ability to more effectively find public communities/people of interest. Alongside improving this however, respecting people's decisions on whether and how they may be found, if at all.
What are your preferred code editors/IDEs to use on Android?
What are some of the more novel forms of fediverse software?
By novel I mean not emulating an existing popular platform, e.g. Lemmy-Reddit, Mastodon-Twitter, etc.
Any tips to help a scientist become a better programmer?

How much of what you self-host do you keep LAN only over making accessible across the internet?
I'm tired with all this Big-Phone-Elitism
I'm someone with relatively small hands, plus I want my phone to be on the smaller side since I prefer to use my tablet/computer/tv to watch content. But this trend where many manufacturers tend to keep futures away from smaller phones to drive people to bigger phones is driving me crazy and really makes it hard for me to buy a...

What Meta’s Fediverse Plans Mean for Threads Users ( www.wired.com )
Meta is treading carefully, doing a phased implementation while continuing conversations with Fediverse leaders. This will give the company more time to iron out some of the integration kinks. “Do we adapt the protocol to be able to support this?” Lambert asks. “Or do we try to do some kind of interesting, unique...

Nostr vs Mastodon and why I'm using both
Nostr and Mastodon have both positioned themselves as "twitter alternatives" and both offer some degree of federation. I have done quite a bit of reading and testing with both and am writing this in case you are curious about which one may work best for you....
Whenever the AT protocol of BlueSky is set for others to deploy, won't it have similar problems as ActivityPub instances?
I feel like I may be missing something when it comes to BlueSky, or maybe both I and those trying it out are but in different ways. My understanding is that BlueSky is currently like the Mastodon Social instance is for Mastodon but of the AT Protocol under development, with the long term aim being that once their protocol is...
Smart Tube Next, ReVanced, or something similar on Roku?
I recently got clued into the fact that you can enable side-loading on Roku devices. However, I have no idea where to get the apps for it. Since Rokus don’t run Android, I can’t install APKs like I did on my Nvidia Shield TV. Could someone please point me in the right direction?
Has anyone used meshtastic?
I just found out about it. Open Source messaging. It seems intriguing although I’m not sure I would have much to do with it. I honestly can’t find too much information about it except for the website and a few YouTube videos. I was just curious if anyone has had experience with it.
