I gave up because that is not the single most important aspect of a phone.

As the Internet Gets Scarier, More Parents Keep Their Kids’ Photos Offline ( getpocket.com )

Here's a non-paywalled link to an article published in the Washington Post a few days ago. It's great to see this kind of thing getting some mainstream attention. Young children have not made an informed decision about whether they want their photos posted online.

Normies got in and big Internet knew they could make money by having everyone give up all private information.

zeekaran ,

Just download it from nyaa like a normal person.

The first sentence for goblin games is Hades. The second is EDF.

"They look just like us!"

zeekaran ,

How do they collect any data? Beyond the locations the car drives to.

From the article:

from your medical information, your genetic information, to your “sex life”

But how? I can't fathom it.

zeekaran ,

Download whenever I feel like it. Share them.

I still have mine! In a drawer. Somewhere.

Home screen widgets are basically the same thing. The issue with these is NFC doesn't work unless the phone is unlocked, or you rooted it to allow NFC all the time.

Moving away from Kindle

I’ve been using the Kindle ebook reader for over a decade now, and I’ve accumulated quite a big digital library from Amazon. However, now I’d like to move away to another ebook reader, preferably Kobo, but I don’t want to leave my Kindle ebooks behind. I’d like to bring them with me....

And how to give access without setting yourself up to have the FBI raid your house or get sued to oblivion

Setting up proper zraid and dealing with Linux to get the server up was much harder than using nginx and buying a $4/yr domain.

Because the nerdy engineers hosting these are not great at naming things.

If you legitimately don’t understand why it’s popular, you are seriously out of touch.

Joplin user here. What does obsidian have that I might want? I remember briefly trying it years ago and disliking it.

zeekaran OP ,

Ever sat next to someone using the same discord chat and you hear them next to you with just your ears, then about 500ms later you hear them through discord? It shuts my brain off.

zeekaran ,

If you’ve played it before that’s doable. Someone who has never played it will have a bad time. It’s seriously outdated.

I miss the no bezel screen, despite the flat tire. Unfortunately I burned through three of these in a short amount of time from the cheap plastic back, and the battery was absolutely terrible.

zeekaran ,

There are two apps that claim to override the button and one doesn’t work and causes issues, while the other has been flawless for me. I set it to open Plex. Even bought a perfectly sized Plex sticker to cover the Netflix logo.

Controls your home screen and app drawer. Nova was the popular one until they sold out.

zeekaran ,

Customizable grid size on both the home screen and app drawer are the two biggest for me. Also being able to hide apps from the drawer while keeping them installed. Home screen gestures are a big one that I don't personally use anymore.

How about what I'm not self-hosting? Lemmy. If anyone has an up to date guide on self-hosting a single user instance of lemmy that is actually easy to follow, that would be great. I just want to control my user account.

Plex, Sonarr/Radarr, Ombi, Home Assistant, Komga, Calibre-Web, Valheim. Everything is on a Debian machine I built recently, except HA which is on an O-Droid (I just copied the hardware from HA Blue and ordered the parts from Ameridroid).
