I feel like UFO would make more sense for laptop due to it being portable, but I get it is because the desktop is Alienware

mac ,

Nah desktop mothership, server star command and laptop UFO.

Mint is just green Ubuntu.

mac ,

I liked the feel of Pop_OS!, the setup and configuration are great, but damned it was unappealing looks wise for me.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah I feel like that just defeats the purpose of it though, in that case just install Debian.

Yeah I am interested in Cosmic DE.

Example?

Swift on the server is a new thing that seems to be gaining traction

Programming languages shouldn't be monetised

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

What are some good use cases for Julia, I really like the language just haven't found a user for it yet.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Last I checked flutter struggled with SEO, how's that looking now?

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah I think work on some small examples for now until you're sure it's a viable option.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

What makes a language a "logic programming language" aren't all language logic based?

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

It seems to be incredibly concise, I wonder what kind of use cases this language has.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

How likely is it to use one for more standard programming e.g. something where python, JavaScript, C or something would normally be used?

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

If they want to do this kind of thing they should always least either leave them to be played whenever but offer some kind of double xp or whatever while the event is actually on, or run the event as an annual thing so you can experience it every year and you don't feel like you're missing out because you didn't get the game at release for whatever reason

The issue with an extension ls is it requires an install, getting everyone to install one extension is a hard task.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah however for mass adoption this is a terrible idea, there is already the extra step to choose an instance versus a regular social media that is just one link and one button.

I know for people like you and I choosing an instance isn't that big of a deal, nor is an extra extension (though i try to use as few as possible) but for a regular user it might cause issues.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah an extension is no more trustworthy than the source providing it, network level adblock which you can monitor completely is probably the correct route

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Just downloaded it, loads of features, free and doesn't have a premium option.

I was using Pocket Casts which locks few features behind a paywall and pushes it. I don't really like having things in the UI that are locked by a paywall, it's fine if the app has more features and an option somewhere to pay for them but don't clutter my general day to day use with advertising.

"My reply probably isn't helpful" - replies anyway... CONFIDENCE.

It's a custom one using Lazy, and the material gruvbox theme it started based on Kickstart.nvim.

mac OP ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah SwayFX has a really good blur, which is nice.

mac OP ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Ah it's all just managed in GitHub with some Ansible playbooks which run all my setup tasks, it used to be a POSIX sh script and might be again one day but Ansible works really well.. You can see it here

mac OP ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Honestly I don't usually use an image viewer, I just needed to check which screenshots to upload as I accidentally took some extra ones.

Thank you for the suggestion though I'll keep it in mind should I need one again.

Is JMP.chat expensive? Are there any alternatives? ( lemm.ee )

I've been using this phone number from JMP.chat and I've barely used it for much of anything (Started February 27th, 2024), and somehow its telling me I need $35? I tried out their service plan but it was way too expensive. I only bought it once and took off my credit card after because auto pay kept auto depositing money into...

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Is it possible to use this number with matrix? That'd be a perfect option for me, I don't really want to sign up to another chat service.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

What other services that are alternatives to this?

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Does this mean you'd be able to send people text messages and call via matrix?

Honestly if I could do that I'd be happy to remove almost all other Comms methods from my devices.

Can you tell excel sheets which were created using a pirated version of MS Office?

My friend works for a company which requires her to use Microsoft specific application, she didn't really want to switch to Win 11 and choose to just use Wine Linux package and install a 2016 version of MS office on her Linux laptop. That's all well and good, but this company she is working for servers other clients at pretty...

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Can she not use the cloud version? Surely her company provides an account for that, if not it definitely has a free version.

Not listened to Kerrang for a good many years. Well thought out post though! Lots of details.

mac OP ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

I personally haven't tried it on an e ink device. You'd have to check, it's free with paid add ons so you can test it.

Bluesky's Moderation Architecture | Bluesky ( docs.bsky.app )

Today, we’re releasing an open labeling system on Bluesky. “Labeling” is a key part of moderation; it is a system for marking content that may need to be hidden, blurred, taken down, or annotated in applications. Labeling is how a lot of centralized moderation works under the hood, but nobody has ever opened it up for...

What benefits/negatives does blue sky have in comparison to mastodon?

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

I've not really had many issues with it, I have a minimal amount of software to install and use though which I think Void is a great fit for.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Looks good, Void is the first distro I installed that made me want to stop distro hopping.

I Made a English Dictionary Front-End for Terminals ( feddit.nl )

This project was interesting. Recently, I've been digging into the functional programming paradigm. This is one of my first tries at it. I've been doing OOP until recently, but this project really was impressive to me. The whole implementation took about nine hours. Functional programming is much less convoluted. I spent more...

Can you give an example of when oop is preferred to functional?

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

foot is also a good choice for a minimal terminal emulator.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah I mean there's a lot of benefits and increased security on Wayland now so it's definitely worth the transition to.

mac ,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Weird, I've not required X for anything since I started using it, I also just use my Window Manager to bind hotkeys (usually Sway)
