Super interesting !!

One thing I noticed is that the results are good because of the "algorithm" and also because of the very good curation done by Hacker News community.

Tarallo - selfhostable FOSS Trello alternative ( feddit.it )

Hi! For the ones of you that use Trello, I made a simple to use and host alternative in PHP. It's not a complete alternative like other projects, and I mainly made it to be able to host it on free PHP web servers while having control over data/attachments. It also support a basic importer for Trello JSON exports....

It's so KISS!

I like that I can install it on my o2switch server.

EU users will be able to continue accessing websites directly from their Home Screen through a bookmark with minimal impact to their functionality.
We expect this change to affect a small number of users. Still, we regret any impact this change — that was made as part of the work to comply with the DMA — may have on developers of Home Screen web apps and our users.

Thanks for this long response. :)

I think that's a good step to have this protocol. And I hope that the entrance of Apple is going to make some move for E2E encryption.

lascapi OP ,
@lascapi@jlai.lu avatar

Yeah!!! That's pretty sad, but that's the case for a lot of standard and common good. :/

This, again to me, while slower, is preferable than being tied to the whims of a provider, e.g. Whatsapp, iMessage and telegram, does away with the market fragmentation (not competition) and gets rid off all the artificial bullshit like blue/ green bubbles, security lapses and image degredation between apps.

Sooo true :/ I'm tired too!!

Do you know an operator who provide this feature/protocol to his users?

Thank you everyone for your inputs!! 🤗 :)

As web developer working in a company as consultant, I think often that I use a lot of free software like framework / library and tools to build proprietary applications without paying the free sofatware I use.

I feel sad about that, that our clients and my company do not want to pay ( with some exceptions ).

That's a social problem.
Maybe some laws our just another culture about take care of our commons can change that.
We can still hope. :/

Tidy First? | Henrik Warne's blog ( henrikwarne.com )

The book “Tidy First?” introduces the concept of "tidyings," which are small refactorings that don't change program behavior, but make it easier to implement behavioral changes. It’s important to structurally prepare code before implementing behavioral changes. A balance must be struck between the time value of money and...

I do, and it's very helpful for me and my futur me and the other one.

You resumed very well the triangle.

My dream is to build an app/service which is easy to use as Signal but compatble with matrix and xmmp.

Shutting down the Matrix bridge to Libera Chat ( matrix.org )

Today we are sorry to announce that we are not able to bring the Libera Chat bridge back online. We have already begun working through clean up tasks, such as clearing ghosts, and expect to be done by December 22. If you see any bridge artifacts left past that point, please let us know....

lascapi ,
@lascapi@jlai.lu avatar

It’s only the groups that’s choose to be public.

You have to configure it for that.

Matrix is perfect for private and personal communication too.

If you are concerned by privacy you should not use Google Messages because every messages passed through the Google server.

And it’s not open source.

For my point of view it’s too much to use it. :)

I hope too! 🙏

I’m using Partisan SMS

Can you use it without encryption as regular sms app ?

Yes, a lot!!!

I mean, it depends of the context probably.

I just discover puri.sm/products/librem-11/ and it looks great !

Not sure if it feat every point, specially the german keyboard ?!

lascapi OP ,
@lascapi@jlai.lu avatar

Nice! :)
Do you have to setup a bridge/bot for each room? Or is it at configuration at the server level?

For exemple if I have a matrix account and I use Element to create a new channel and invite some guys with IRC and some with XMPP?

lascapi OP ,
@lascapi@jlai.lu avatar

Thank you :)

That sounds not so complex for me.

But I think of no-technical guys and I think that create a channel and share the link is already to complex! I mean, I can teach them that, but that’s not obvious as Signal or similar app.

lascapi OP ,
@lascapi@jlai.lu avatar

That’s right, but it’s not activated by default. And it’s not easy at all.

I tried for myself but that require that I configure bridge for the server, then for each room, with some strange /command I have to remember.

When I think of a service I mean a service that anyone can use, even the no tech guys.
It’s nice that it’s technically possible, though! :)

The biggest part of the question is more a UI/UX question then a technical one actually.

lascapi OP ,
@lascapi@jlai.lu avatar

Hi :) yes I did. And I tried. 🙂

It’s a great multi protocol app. But you cannot chat in the same conversation with two different protocol. :/

And there is no xmpp support.

Even for the matrix federation it was possible only with the desktop app.

So that’s not that I looking for.

lascapi OP ,
@lascapi@jlai.lu avatar

That’s right but you cannot create a conversation between you and a guy with xmpp and another one with matrix.

That’s my question. :)

lascapi ,
@lascapi@jlai.lu avatar

Sounds good!

That’s a hard work to try to be compatible with X11 and Wayland.

I hope that could simplify that.

The main thing about Fairphone is not the phone but the supply chain.

www.fairphone.com/en/impact/

Nothing is perfect and a phone cannot make happy every one (is there a jack or not …). But I’m happy that they try to make a good phone with all the hidden things in mind (from where come from the rough material, who is making the pieces and in which conditions …). That’s more important for me then the final product.

I love the concept to store request in files and that you can use git to version! Lovely

    I wonder if WhatsApp is going to make a white list of compatible App or if they just open an API or document a protocol…

    Anyway, I found it awesome.

    If someone don’t want to chat with a WhatsApp user it’s always possible too.

    lascapi ,
    @lascapi@jlai.lu avatar

    I used it a bit, but you need a WhatsApp account to chat with WhatApp user.

    The goal is to have all your account and messages in one App, but you still need one account per Service (whatspapp, telegram, twitter … ).

    lascapi ,
    @lascapi@jlai.lu avatar

    I agree that a lot of free software are old now and big enough to be lost.

    Maybe you can find a new and simple project, like github.com/lemmygtk/lemoa to improve your skills?

    lascapi ,
    @lascapi@jlai.lu avatar

    Thanks for the article!

    Another use case: It could be useful for one software deployed in more than one server and if admins want to enable/disable features specifically for every server.
