Mullvad, haven't had any issues with it. If a site refuses my connection I just change servers until it works, even found a few that work on reddit

Is anyone using VMware under a Wayland host?

I've been using VMware Player (free version) for a while now and it's been working fine. Recently I switched to Wayland and VMware's grab input behavior broke. The guest gets most keys correctly but Alt and Super are intercepted by the host. Clicking on the vm also gives me a remote desktop popup on the host prompting to allow...

Better question is who is using VMware at all. QEMU+virt-manager on top.

No Russia in my house

You do realize where 99% of pirated anything comes from, right?

No China in my house

You do realize where 99% of stuff is manufactured, right? The device you are using right now has components made in China.

eya ,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Taiwan is a country

Correct, doesn't change the fact a lot of stuff is still made in mainland China.

People are still using Google as a search engine?

eya ,

SearXNG

eya ,
@eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

searx.be, as you said. But you'll have to switch instances occasionally due to rate limits.

    Why are people still using telegram anyway... Much better options out there

    eya ,
    @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    You've already answered your own questions in the "Some Solutions" section. If you completely lose your password to your vault there is nothing you can do, simple as that. Don't lose it.

    Cloud-based sync is incredibly easy with self-hosted cloud, as pointed out by the KeePassXC FAQ. Self-hosted cloud is effectively a local solution.

    eya ,
    @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    That’s the problem I’m trying to address here.

    There is no solution to that problem. If you lose your password it's gone.

    off-site cloud storage

    This could be a server that is off-site but still controlled by you. Or just use a cloud hosting provider that you trust, the database is encrypted anyway. Or hell it could even be a hard drive in a box somewhere, assuming you never add anything to your database. Personally my off-site backup is a flash drive that I carry around with me at all times, and manually update whenever I make changes.

    How to make it so frequently used sites don't constantly require 2FA? [SOLVED]

    EDIT: After reading all the responses, I’ve decided to allow cookies to persist after they close the browser, which I expect will make it so that 2FA doesn’t kick in as often, at least not on their most frequently used web sites. I may also look into privacy oriented browser extensions that might offer some protection, such...

    eya ,
    @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    Just allow cookies for those websites. You can do it by clicking the lock to the left of the search bar and enabling "Always store cookis/data for this site"

    eya , (edited )
    @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    You backup your 2FA locally. Problem solved.

    If you're using the cloud for anything related to security you're doing something wrong. (In my opinion)

    I feel like 99% of the time it's just "does this distro have drivers for this hardware". If yes it works, if no it doesn't.

    eya ,
    @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    I mean it depends on the hardware.
    (if we knew what hardware youre talking about it would make this much easier)

    eya ,
    @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    Depends on the hardware. You have to download NVIDIA drivers from your package manager.

    Recommendations for an authentic mousepad?

    Hiya peeps, my mouse mat has served its time, and it is time for a new one. Until now, I've had one of these huge ones, that cover half the desk. But I think this time I'm gonna aim for a normal-sized one. I'd also like to avoid cheap Chinese wares or anything low-quality. Anyone got any nice recommendations for mousepads? Do...

    eya ,
    @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    I personally use a glass pad but they aren't for everyone.

    I just use Mullvad with wireguard, not very hard to setup.

    I got Void Linux, which is exactly what I use. Neat.

    (and Artix which I used before switching to Void)

    I mean sure you can but if you can use something else then you probably should.

    Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone ( lemmy.world )

    I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?...

    eya ,
    @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    Unfortunately GrapheneOS still only supports Google Pixels, otherwise I would use something else in a heartbeat

    eya ,
    @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    Mullvad has a public DNS service, would recommend checking that out. Supports DoH, DoT, and is encrypted.

    eya ,
    @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    So basically... completely remove the purpose of 2FA?

    eya ,
    @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    If your computer gets compromised and you store your passwords on it (as most do) then you are also storing your 2fa on it, then there is no 2fa.

    eya ,
    @eya@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

    whatever token/cookie you will get from the authentication will be also compromised

    This assumes you are already logged in. If you aren't logged in then 2FA will protect you, unless of course you store your 2FA in your browser like an idiot.

    a lot more issues

    Okay but that isn't relevant at all.

    Proprietary software = software thats not open source

    yes its still followed

    yes its still relevant

    if the software is closed source then you dont know if it respects your privacy or not, and 99% of the time it doesnt

    so mullvad?

    also this is basically just false advertising because most VPNs support these features...
