Stop platform hate, create or collaborate

The isn't perfect, it's the best solution we have

You can make a difference, simply by participating in a project/platform and suggesting ideas or reporting bugs

You don't need to know how to code to make this place better, but if you want to make a bigger impact, it does help

We need to stop shitting on fedi platforms like Mastodon and see the fediverse as the competitor to centralized social platforms

Don't get me wrong, I love Mastodon and everything it's done for the fediverse

That being said, I don't want Loops to become the only short form video platform, or the only well known one

I'm working with @stux on his own short vid platform called and PeerTube to enable seamless interop

We're stronger and better together

There is no reason NOT to work with "competitors" because when you have the right mindset and goals:

I've been working on @pixelfed almost every day since April 2018

I've learned a lot, and am still as dedicated to, and excited for the fediverse as I was when I first started Pixelfed

I know I've made some mistakes along the way, but y'all have been quick to point em out and help me grow and fix issues accordingly

This really is a labour of love, for the people.

Pixelfed Collections [v3]

  • remove (only-public) and (only-self) constraints - allow items to be anything, even a url

  • make collections followable (w/ )

  • add "Collect" button to add items to one of your collections

  • public "collections directory" w/ search

The refreshed Collections feature will be quite similar to 😉

    @gbhnews IG optimizes images quite a bit, and you have to select which images to import so you should be fine.

    We are working to remove the 7GB upload limit btw!

    @penalbatoday @dangillmor @fediverso @Gargron @jayrosen_nyu @theexplorographer if your post goes viral, other servers that don't know about it will fetch a cached (on mastodon/pixelfed anyways) copy of the object and any replies will be sent to your followers and mentioned users using the efficient sharedInbox method when supported (so only 1 delivery per domain)

    Really excited for the developer tools I’ve been working on lately, there are a few different tools that will aid in debugging and development of your AP projects!

    Eventually I’d like to build a test suite using a corpus of community contributed projects to test compatibility with various projects

    It will be open source, and you’ll be able to download single file scripts that you can run locally to test without requiring a prod/tls stack

    Look forward to shipping this 😎

    I know there is a need for this, and a group that is trying to organize something like this.

    Nothing against them, but I think I can built a foundation for this myself without bureaucracy or countless meetings, and then hand it off to them or a trusted fediverse entity.

    I’m all for collaboration, but sometimes it’s better to go alone and then release an MVP instead of trying to organize a project with many devs who can’t decide on what lang or code style to use.

    Thoughts on why there's such a huge difference between total users and monthly active users for Lemmy, especially compared to Kbin? Did Lemmy just get a huge number of bot accounts made that aren't active?

    I added an Active User graph to the Threadiverse page and a note for the Total User graph explaining the influx of spam users and how they inflate user counts, active users is a better metric!

    If I were to build a new project today, it would be generic.

    Giving instance admins the ability to pick and choose what activities to support in a modular way would be awesome.

    I would think the modular UI components would be most challenging, as you'd have to make them interoperable with each other.

    Could abstract the complexity of mapping ActivityStreams verbs + compatibility to UI components and side effects with a visual drag-n-drop tool.
