Where would I set up my band's web presence in the Fediverse? ( kbin.social )

I'm getting started with my new band and as a recent reddfugee I was wondering if we could set up our web presence in the Fediverse. Now where would we do this? We'd like to upload songs, share news about concerts and stuff, and post pics from recent events.

Nobody can shut down the fedivers. Thats the whole point of it.

Defederation is the Hammer in the Toolbox of Server Admins/Moderators. With that they can smack every connection between there own server and another, effecticvly ending the communication beetwen users on both servers.

They can still talk to all other severs that are not defederated.

Mastodon has the option to "Silence" or "Limit" servers aswell - that way users can still interact across server but there are some protections enabled(like you have to accept followers from the other server bevor they can see your stuff - and more)

So there are multipile tools to handle Meta.

Little prediction from me, there will be 3 Typs of servers:

Server 1: No Federation with Meta at all - every Meta server is getting defederated
Server 2: Limited federation with Meta
Server 3: Full federation with Meta

all 3 typs will exist and federat with each other.

How do we get an instance removed? ( kbin.social )

It looks like a new spamming tactic will be to set up your own instance and then just mass spam to other instances from there. Case in point, vive.im I've been noticing spam in one magazine from a user of this. I banned them, but they can still post for some reason. Decided to visit the instance and it looks like some default...

As i understand the account migration tools for Kbin are not ready yet.

On Mastodon/Calckey and other more developt project you can ex/import the list of your followers etc and even fully transfer an account from server to server.
We might need to wait a little for that feature beacause there are other things "more important" like stability of the server and moderations tools to combat spam etc

EDIT - Resolved Help Needed around understanding the Subscribed view: kbin.social/sub ( kbin.social )

Please help me understand how this view is intended to work. I have been seeing a lot of content on that view that I am not subscribed to. Today I deleted all of my subscriptions to try and see if the view will change and it does not. Am I missing something in how this is supposed to work, or is there a bug there at the moment?...

Is there an article someone could point to that explains how kbin, lemmy.ml, lemmy.world etc. all relate to one another?

For example do I need an account with both kbin and lemmy, or are they just different names for the same thing?

Can I subscribe to a lemmy.world ‘channel’ with my kbin account?

Still trying to work things out.

Is there a way to improve Federation rate? ( kbin.social )

I mod a Magazine here in kbin.social, over the past couple of days I noticed that it wasn't available over on lemmy.world nor is it searchable from Mastodon. Today I noticed that the Magazine is now searchable from lemmy.world though none of the posts are synced. It's not available on Mastodon yet, nor is it at fedia.io....

  • pixelfed is trying to recreate a better instgram. a lot of developemt and they now even support import of instagram data.

you do not understand the problem. The growth was on every server of the fedivers - so moderationg users from different servers was to much work. how should they stop people from other servers? two options - block any individuell(which is to much work with so many open registration servers - they can just spamm new servers) or nuke the server where most of the trolls come from.
