Can you imagine what the would look like now if the response to Gab had been "Admins don't need to block these instances, individual users can just choose whether or not to apply a user-level block (mute) themselves"?

And is even more corrosive than Gab. Gab users just posted a barrage of hate and unpleasantness. Meta is commercially incentivised to destroy what some people are inviting it into.

Seeing all of these folks talk about "defederation" from Meta before they even get to the is quite sad and hilarious all at the same time.

While I won't give me exact thoughts right now as I will likely do that tomorrow, y'all need to get a grip on yourselves.

Let them get here, see how it goes, see what happens, and then decide. But making a decision right NOW, in my opinion is ridiculous for a LOT of reasons.

You're just assuming and hoping at this point. SAD SAD SAD!

@cliffwade Isn't it the task and responsibility of an admin to find out what they think, rather than assume (either way)?

@cliffwade It's interesting that you think people "want to make assumptions and accusations". You must have a fairly low opinion of a lot of people. You're also talking here about your own views on Meta. What I wrote about in my reply to you was the responsibility of an admin, who by definition has to consider the views of those on the instance they host - or, alternatively, has to expect some of their userbase to walk when they find out they're on an instance that isn't aligned with them.

@cliffwade I'm not trying to preempt whatever you have in mind to write tomorrow, though. I've also been waiting to see what happens today with this meeting before making a firm decision over whether to remain on this instance going forward (although as it happens my admin has just said this morning that they will block Meta as a precaution until it's clear how they behave here, which is a big relief)

@cliffwade Personally I don't think there's a strong reason to believe Meta will behave any differently here to how it has behaved anywhere else. And on that basis, blocking is a wise precaution.

The now:

Total users: 10,034,879
Biggest service: (7,636,130 users - 76% of total)

The Fediverse when current Instagram users are given handles on Threads:

Total users: 1,340,584,879
Biggest service: (1,330,550,000 users - 99.3% of total)

Meta might be making Eugen feel important right now. How much will they listen to him when they're here?
