I can’t tell you how happy I am to get texts like these from friends. I’m so optimistic about the future of the and always excited to talk about it.

The fediverse is still a tricky concept to explain though. I’d love to hear how you like to describe this gestures wildly at ActivityPub/Federation/Mastodon/Threads/AT Protocol/PeerTube to a friend.

Friends, - ians, lend me your ears 👂

I spoke to a very interesting group of people last week about the prospects for Public Social Media.

I feel I should write a brief essay as followup and I am staring forlornly at my text editor.

How shall I explain to people unfamiliar with the why it represents a promising opportunity for their organizations?

@gbhnews lots of people talking about ownership and control of the content, which I think is good, but perhaps a stronger argument would be for the interoperability that ActivityPub provides.
The big draw of web2 was in it's apis, and I think ActivityPub and the fediverse provide that. These agencies can post in the fediverse (maybe on Mastodon) and others can follow them on whatever platform they prefer. They can connect their sites to the fediverse, etc.
