And fortunately they made the law future proof. It doesn’t say that “hey, you should use USB-C” but it says “hey, you should use the connector mentioned in Appendix H which is defined by committee R”. That way they don’t need to start over the whole bureaucratic process the pass the law, just ask a committee to reevaluate the tech and they change the appendix. It can be USB-D from tomorrow.

That’s what I did what you suggested in your Edit.
I was looking for the option since Sync was supposedly updated to handle v0.19 and a handful of instances were already on that for weeks now. Never found the option. I just hoped a fix will come until my main instance is upgraded. But anyway, the main thing I can use it with this workaround.

I dunno. I use it since I can and (at least for me) it’s awesome. Finally fresh posts from little communities besides the big ones, far more diversity. I love it.

I really don’t know why that happens to you, seems odd. Maybe worth a Github issue alongside a couple of logs from your server.

These guys are doing so amazing work on all the instances, it’s inspirational to see.

How about the case where I explicitly want them to store my location data? I mean I really use and like that feature.

Yepp, that user was my first and only block ever. Yes, we get it. YT bad, Piped good. It was so annoying.

That was my pet peeve too. I installed it some years ago. Months went by, I’ve used it. Then I saw a new version came out. Okay, time to upgrade! Oh, dump the DB, delete everything, install the upgrade and load the DB back? (Or some similar shit.) And do it every time when there is an upgrade? Okay, uninstall it is.

I have only one problem with that: no other browser is capable of Casting (as in Chromecast to an Android TV). Trust me, I heard and tried ALL the suggestions there is. And no, I don’t want to cast the whole phone screen, JUST the browser or the medium playing inside it. You know, science-kind media for my friend.

I found an option in the Developer Options called Webview implementation, but only the Android System Webview can be selected. On Pixel 7.

That’s why I could never get into Twitter and now Mastodon. I don’t give a shit about who posts, I only give a shit about the topic. I don’t want to follow people. I want to follow topics. And hashtags just don’t cut it.

Yeah, I don’t understand why they are limiting themselves to like 5 countries in the world. They could be a huge deal, especially in Europe.

Okay, but. Are they Marxist-Leninist? Pro-China? Socialists? Anti-capitalists? Looks like: yes. Was the whole thing founded on the grounds of free, shared things and anti-corporate thinking? Also yes. Do we absolutely know for sure that the ML domain was chosen because of this? No, because the fucking register of the domain himself said it was chosen because it was free.

It was simply just free. People and their “knowledge” about topics they don’t know anything about…

lemmy.ml/comment/58293

Dessalines is the owner of the domain, one of the owners of the ML instance and one of the full-time devs of the Lemmy code.

I think an overwhelming number of people simply chose that instance becuase it was the instance, made by the devs themselves. At least it was the case for me.

There were traces in the code about the forced solution I saw a couple of months ago in an article. Apparently it didn’t make it into the final version which is a shame.

TheGreenGolem ,

I always do that. I think I only waited once, it notified me like 4 days later. But when I go into the settings and manually search for the update, it always gives me the update as soon as it’s announced.

Can’t they just create a brand new law, specifically to cover these use-cases we have here?

Edit: And thank you for your detailed answer! It was educational.

You can define your whole cloud infra as code so you don’t have to manually maintain hundreds, sometimes thousands of resources manually. My work would be basically impossible without it, or the DevOps team shouldn’t consist of 5 peope but 20. It’s a descriptive language where you define the end result you want to see and Terraform transforms your code to actual API calls to AWS/GCP/Azure. Like this

resource database MyAwesomeDB {
engine = mssql
version = 1.1
backup, initial db, master pw etcetc. }

It’s incredible useful where you have 50+ microservices, 10+ db instances, load balancers, gateways, auto scaling rules, object storage, nosql, queues, countless firewall and routing rules, notifications and observability systems. And that was just dev. Then you have test, staging, prod, plus multi-region on top of that. And of course ephemeral environments fired up for every PR so the dev can test their shit without messing everything up. You end up easily managing a couple of thousands of cloud resources.

Cloudflare could be the cheapest (without cross-financing) because they advertise their pricing as they don’t add any additional fees to the ICANN fees. I never actually fact checked this though.

USB-C confirmed for the iPhone 15 in new leaked images - Macworld ( www.macworld.com )

We’ve known that the iPhone is switching to USB-C for a while now, but there was always a possibility that Apple would stick with Lightning for one more year. Based on the latest leaked images, however, Apple is all-in on USB-C for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models, with USB-C parts for the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and...

Yes, multiple times. It usually go this way:

  • the installer starts
  • I click on next a few times
  • it asks the key
  • next
  • next
  • nextnextnextnext
  • the desktop shows up about 20-30 mins later

It’s literally a nightmare.
