Do what OpenSUSE Tumbleweed suggests, make a brtfs partition for your system and xfs/ext4 for home parition

therealjcdenton ,
@therealjcdenton@lemmy.zip avatar

Rolling release, quicker updates for gaming, and pacman is an extremely fast package manager, which is why OpenSUSE Tumbleweed wasn't chosen. KDE probably because touch screen works better on it and maybe they found switching between desktop and big picture mode to be a better transition

therealjcdenton ,
@therealjcdenton@lemmy.zip avatar

Maybe? As much as I hate that statement it's probably true, cause windows does look like kde since they copied a bunch of stuff from plasma

Hello fellow citizen, I almost agree but libadwaita is inherently gnome's thing, and libadwaita apps are usually closely built into the gnome desktop, so using it outside of gnome seems weird. Kinda like using Dolphin outside of KDE (tho that's just because of qt). They want to be able to integrate their forks visually.

Why does it have blue hair? I don't think hair dye exists in a medieval world, or at least and easily accessible one

As TikTok ban threatens stability in social media ecosystem, some brands settle into the fediverse ( digiday.com )

The possibility of a TikTok ban is inching closer to becoming a reality at this point. On Tuesday, the Senate passed the bill that would bar the social media platform from operating in the U.S. unless ByteDance, its Chinese parent company, sells its stake....

therealjcdenton ,
@therealjcdenton@lemmy.zip avatar

I despise tiktok but banning it entirely through law sets an extremely scary precedent. What happens when the big N tries to go after emulators this way, or if corpos go after third party apps under some guise of business stability or something, scary stuff

When you notice it takes a long time to scroll past a lot of unused software in your application launcher to get to the one you want

Multiple communities with the same topic across multiple instances, gets kinda confusing and makes it harder to block ones you aren't interested in

Discord has a monopoly on the organized group chat platform, there isn't a competent competitor, or at least none I'm aware of

Last I checked it didn't have voice chat and just ran in a imbedded webpage

Tried Arch for the first time | My experience and impressions ( lemmy.ml )

I used linux intermittently in the last 15 or so years, migrating from early Ubuntu versions, to Manjaro, Pop!_OS, Debian, etc. And decided to give Arch a try just recently; with all the memes around its high entry point, I was really expecting to struggle for a long time to set it up just as I want....

You don't understand, we don't want one, we NEED a Waffle House stage in Tekken 8, it's as simple as that

Plasma 6 fixed a lot of issues I had with Wayland, mostly multi monitor, but I've been using it since steam on X11 would cause your entire desktop environment to freeze up consistently every time. I read it was because steam was constantly pinging your display ports to see if there was another monitor connected, but I don't know how true that is. Moving to Wayland fixed that probably because of xwayland

Maybe instead of going after a way to make switch games more accessible to people outside of your ecosystem, you should expand your ecosystem to include them.

They dont integrate well into your system like they should, (theming, bookmarks, storage, etc), and to fix that you gotta do some work arounds that should be done automatically

Konsole and Kitty are objectively better than alacrity. So it's a question of which of those to use. Konsole if you use the Breeze application style, and Kitty if you don't. Konsole has the best keybinds and it actually has a scrollbar, but kitty doesn't require breeze.

therealjcdenton ,
@therealjcdenton@lemmy.zip avatar

QT apps don't look right without breeze imo

What is being done to make Flatpaks better integrate into the system

For example, theming shouldnt have to be a 10 step process. Make Flatpaks use your themes correctly. Another thing is QT Theming, why is it outside of KDE you can't use the breeze style? It's the best and most consistent application style for QT apps. And the final point, when is the naming scheme of org.foo.bar going to be...

therealjcdenton OP ,
@therealjcdenton@lemmy.zip avatar

I shouldn't have to, and my main point is flatpak remove and flatpak install both work for the sensible names (without the org/com prefix/suffix), but flatpak run does not.

~/.local/share/icons

Yay is the best package manager I've ever used.

@therealjcdenton@lemmy.zip avatar

Discover checks knewstuff (global themes, plasmoids, etc.), Flatpaks, firmware and snaps, (which all have a relevant backend package something like (discover-backend-packagekit). Discover, well more like PackageKit, will let you know if a reboot is necessary if there's something like a kernel update.

Like most people said, use Firefox with the DDG extension or use Librewolf (just a heads up Librewolf by default deletes all history and cookie so disable that before signing in)
