Buffalox , (edited ) to Android in vivo X100 Ultra debuts with 200MP periscope cam and SD 8 Gen 3

Modern phone cameras are crazy good even on cheaper phones. This is totally insane compared to old analog gear, both regarding cost and capabilities.
I've had a midrange phone with a 0.8" main sensor for a while now, and I'm still regularly in awe of the capability and quality of the pictures it takes.
It's insane how much better digital cameras have gotten the past decade, and they are still improving.

Bit underpowered I think. Could have been better with 7 gen 2.

Will it have more than a pitiful 2 years of software updates? If not, not interested.

If I didn't need my banking and identity apps so bad, I would slap lineage on my 5ii.

IllNess , to Android in Blackview Hero 10 detailed: the cheapest foldable has a 6.9" OLED display, 108MP camera

The Hero 10 is supposed to cost €400 (around $425/₹36,000), which will undercut the current cheapest foldable, the nubia Flip, by some margin (it made its debut at the MWC at $600).

Ilandar , to Android in Blackview Hero 10 detailed: the cheapest foldable has a 6.9" OLED display, 108MP camera

The refresh rate is a noticeable omission from the marketing material. I'm guessing 60Hz.

EDIT: NotebookCheck has since reported that it has a 60Hz display.

Maybe they should fix the naming. What the hell does 1 VI and 10 VI mean?

dingus , (edited )

Sony really has no idea how to name some of their product lines lmao

shitescalates ,

I'm not sure why this comes up in every Sony post. Their naming scheme is dirt simple and stable unlike other brands. 1 is flagship, 5 is their midrange and 10 is their low end. Mark number is generation.

Simpler than pro, max, plus, FE, lite, 5g etc from all the other brands. I swear people just like to bitch about Sony.

dingus ,

For people explicitly following Sony, sure it makes sense. For the average consumer that doesn't know anything about that stuff, no it doesn't.

For the average consumer and the average company, the bigger the number means the newer the device (ex: iPhone 12 vs iPhone 11 S23 vs S22, etc.). And then it's pretty easy to tell that words like "pro," "max," or "ultra" denote a more high end experience than those without in the title (ex: S23 vs S23 ultra). Obviously there are nuances and variations, but it's easy enough for the average consumer to quickly skim before inquiring with a salesperson.

Your average consumer doesn't delve deep into hardcore researching everything and won't be sitting there following the specific naming scheme of every single product line of every company. They just want to quickly be able to tell what the latest and greatest models are.

The rest of the world isn't techie like Lemmy/Reddit. So no, the naming schemes don't make any sense.

shitescalates ,

Samsung went S9-S10-S20. Note changed to S Ultra. Their mid range is AXX which isn't intuitive for the average person. Plus the intermittent FE models. Apple has made the SE which isn't obvious. They've changed their lineup too.

The Realme C65 5G is the first Dimensity 6300-powered smartphone,

Is this really the first Dimensity 6300 phone? I seem to recall comparisons to Snapdragon 8 gen 3 already several months ago...

Maybe it's the first phone from Realme to use Dimensity 6300?

limerod OP ,

You are thinking about the flagship Dimensity 9300. This is a budget dimensity 6300 processor.

Buffalox , (edited )

You are 100% correct, somehow in my mind 6300 became 9300. Weird how the mind can be fallible at times.
I thought it was weird it only had 6 GB RAM with a flagship SOC. lol

Mmm I'll keep my DAP and phone separate thanks. Edit: Just to add to my point I think it could be the worst of both. Noisy DAC because of 'GSM modem', poor phone due to older version of Android, lack of updates, average camera etc. I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

mrfriki , (edited ) to Android in Audiophile brand Moondrop teases its first smartphone, the MIAD 01 - GSMArena.com news

This is exactly the kind of phone I want, I don't understand why there isn't higher demand for audio phones like there is for camera phones. I also want to see the introduction of DACs to more smartphones and/or earbuds as that technology continues to scale down. But idk, checking the website (and understanding that it's the non primary language site) doesn't fill me with hope.

sabreW4K3 OP ,

I thought LG were going to corner the market on audio phones and then they just withdrew. I hope Moondrop can step up.

@g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah and this is where I'm willing to admit I'm a weirdo. But like I don't need pictures of myself, or my food, or the fireworks. If I can see the detail in question for a funny thing I stumbled upon, then the camera is good enough for me. I certainly don't need 8 different kinds of camera in my phone.

golli ,

I don't understand why there isn't higher demand for audio phones like there is for camera phones.

I agree that there should be demand for a large enough niche audience, but it won't be even near the same demand as for good cameras.

For most people smartphone are their primary and usually only camera. And there are plenty of situations where you want to take a nice picture or video.

With audio the trend nowadays is wireless for the vast majority of people. And for that a build in DAC doesn't really help at all.

g0d0fm15ch13f ,
@g0d0fm15ch13f@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah not a massive fan of the wireless trend, but I do get it's convenience. Which is why I think DACs should be making their way to earbuds near you.

Mazoku , to Android in Audiophile brand Moondrop teases its first smartphone, the MIAD 01 - GSMArena.com news

This could be interesting, wonder if it will be china market only

DrRatso ,

Moondrop has a lot of sellers. I bought one of their entry IEMs with free shipping, came pretty fast despite being a very hot new release. That said i can't tell you from which retailer anymore (maybe even moondrop themselves?)(actually, i dont think you can buy from them, think i bought from shenzhenaudio), they are collecting dust somewhere (I just can't get on board with the form factor, over-ear/on-ear all day, everyday).

absquatulate , to Android in Audiophile brand Moondrop teases its first smartphone, the MIAD 01 - GSMArena.com news

I'm loving the look of this thing, but "audiophile brand" just screams "overpriced as fuck" to me. Time will tell I suppose.

Macaroni_ninja , (edited )
@Macaroni_ninja@lemmy.world avatar

Just ordered a pair of wired in-ear headphone from their website for like 15 USD with free worldwide shipping and they sound amazing.

While they have products in the thousands, most their headphones cost under 100 AFAIK

Of course regardless the phone will be 100% overpriced.

DrRatso ,

Moondrop generally is great value and fairly affordable as well as having some of the more famous audiophile IEMs.

redcalcium ,

I bought their $20 tws recently and it's not bad for the price. They're more like budget audiophile brands.

Welp_im_damned ,

I mean it's 350 usd so it's a mid-range phone but the specs are decent enough imo.
