I started using Frigate and thought about going the Coral route but realized you didn't need them if you have a relatively recent Intel CPU (6th gen or newer) as OpenVino with the iGPU is pretty much on par https://github.com/blakeblackshear/frigate/discussions/5742 .

A lot of the newer SBCs are being shipped with integrated NPUs/TPUs now as well. I would get a Coral if I were to use an older SBC or RPi or older PC as a camera server for object detection. Currently I have an ESP32-CAM watching a bird feeder but that feed goes to a modern server for bird species recognition but I could see a Coral as an option.

I’m interested in this as well. Mastodon has RAILS_ENV=production /home/mastodon/live/bin/tootctl preview_cards remove and RAILS_ENV=production /home/mastodon/live/bin/tootctl media remove but I don’t know if something equivalent exists for lemmy.

Check out Droid-ify. I’ve had better luck with it.

How do you containerize stuff you install from source in a way that you can completely remove later?

I’m doing a bunch of AI stuff that needs compiling to try various unrelated apps. I’m making a mess of config files and extras. I’ve been using distrobox and conda. How could I do this better? Chroot? Different user logins for extra home directories? Groups? Most of the packages need access to CUDA and localhost. I would...

Is anyone using NixOS as their daily driver?

I’m currently running Arch and it’s great, but I’m noticing I’m not staying on the ball in regards to updates. I’ve been reading a bit about Nix and NixOS and thinking of trying it as my daily driver. I’ve got a Lenovo x1 xtreme laptop, I don’t do much gaming (except OSRS), use firefox, jetbrains stuff, bitwarden,...

What non-FOSS software are you using that you wish you could replace?

For me its honestly a ton of my work software (digital forensics), shit is too niche to be replaced by good FOSS options. Cellebrite, Magnet Axiom, etc. Autopsy is great and free and has a linux version but it simply cannot get the same level of data without a pretty nutty level of custom code....

minnix ,

At least there’s a matrix bridge for discord. You’re still connecting to discord from your matrix client, but at least you don’t have to install the discord client or access the website.

minnix ,

It’s not FOSS or free, but Reaper at least has a native Linux version, and it’s a great DAW.

minnix ,

Very much the nice price

Here are some revised configs I put together as the docs were insufficient if it helps git.minnix.dev/minnix/lemmy_configs

It’s necessary with the way I have it setup

You seem to misunderstand how PT works.

Was Fedora always so unstable?

I was on Ubuntu for a year. No major issues, although I used the interim releases, which are supposed to be less solid than LTS. Then, a couple of months ago, I decided to switch to Fedora, just out of curiosity. Many people stated how Fedora is rock solid, Fedora is the new Ubuntu, etc. First some rpmfussion updates broke mesa,...

If you want to continue using Fedora try Kinoite or Silverblue. With their immutability and ease of rollback, I’ve really enjoyed using Fedora again.
