Do you use the device you torrent on for personal things as well?

I'm just curious as I've permanently dedicated my laptop to torrenting. I've been too nervous to install anything but the VPN and Firefox on it. Now, I'm curious to mess around with Linux some more, which is what I use on it, but I can't fully test out what all I can do with it without signing into accounts....

Can't bind Proton VPN to qBittorrent on Linux

I like to run qBittorrent on a Linux laptop to try and minimize the risk of Microsoft tracking what I'm doing and to protect my main system from viruses. I'm having an issue with it though. When I go into Advanced and select Network Interface, Proton VPN is not an option there. I only get lo, eno1, wlp4s0, ipv6leakintrf0, and...

Elarionus OP ,

Because I already pay for Proton for drive, mail, and other services. I've used Mullvad in the past, and I definitely prefer it as a simple torrenting VPN, but Proton offers a lot more.

Proton VPN on Linux looks very different from Windows. How do you select one of their P2P options for faster torrenting?

Pretty much what the title says. I noticed that ProtonVPN Linux has an EXTREMELY limited interface compared to their program on Windows. I also do not appear to have the option to bind qBittorrent to ProtonVPN the same way that I did with MullvadVPN. Has anybody experienced ProtonVPN on Linux and successfully used it for...

Elarionus OP ,

That’s unfortunate. I’ll end up sticking to Mullvad for now then. I am comfortable with the terminal for navigation and simple things like that, but nowhere near comfortable enough to stake the security of my computer or the wrath of my ISP on it.

Elarionus OP ,

I know very little about networking unfortunately…I do not even think my ISP offers IPV6, but I could just be completely wrong. I went to both of those sites, and it showed me as across the world, where I had selected with ProtonVPN. There were no settings in there at all to change anything. ProtonVPN on Linux is literally just a box with a list of countries that you click on. So much weaker than Mullvad and ProtonVPN on Windows.

Elarionus OP ,

Yeah, the only scary moment I’ve had was when the laptop decided to suspend itself, and when I turned it back on, Linux had disabled all networking systems outside of the default, but immediately started up qBit for some reason, so that was great.

I figured the further I got from Windows, the easier all of this would become, given the community’s tendency towards things like Linux, privacy, etc. It’s only gotten painfully more difficult and contains a lot more gatekeeping. As I’ve asked for help with things like this, especially on the newer versions of Mint and Ubuntu, I just get insulted, even though the old solutions no longer seem to apply.

Elarionus OP ,

I just tested it out to see if it would stop if I closed the VPN...it did not stop at all, just kept on downloading. There must be something I'm doing wrong. I'm on Ubuntu, which should function pretty similarly to PoP!_OS. I specifically picked a P2P server in Proton VPN, a United Kingdom one with the little arrow circle symbol.

Direct Downloads always lead to "check internet connection"

This is something I’m noticing in the ROM space, especially for non-retro titles like WiiU titles. The file sizes are often very massive, between 5 and 20 GB. Downloading from these places, especially the internet archive has a download speed of maybe 500 megabytes per hour. It’s quite slow compared to torrents, but when it...

Best place to get forced subtitles?

We watch a lot of movies with alien languages, Marvel, Star Wars, Dune, that type of sci-fi stuff. We are struggling to find the type of subtitles that are just for when aliens talk. I looked around, and it appears they’re called Forced Subtitles, but when we search for subtitles, all we get is the entire movie in English....

Advice on how to find older content?

I finally decided that I would get into One Piece. However, nearly all the torrent sites just have literal THOUSANDS of magnets for the latest episode, and a few here and there of various seasons. But I can’t seem to find anything before 2021 except for a rare one off episode....

Elarionus OP ,

This is phenomenal, thank you for sharing. I am not a fan of filler content at all, so I appreciate the work they’ve done! And there’s tons of people actually seeding, wow!

Why is thepiratebay not in the megathread, despite being so much better?

Whenever thepiratebay goes down, it is a disaster for me to find anything online. The megathread is next to useless, taking me to all these crazy sites that don’t have a torrent option. Instead, they have individual episode downloads of 600 episode TV series. And to access each individual episode, I have to click on a mirror...

Elarionus OP ,

You’re right, I don’t mean to sound entitled in any way, I’m just…frustrated and a bit lost. And it’s hard, because I don’t necessarily know where to look for help because the community (naturally) is fairly underground. Even signing up for this and posting this makes me nervous that I’ll “get caught” somehow, despite having a VPN.

You’re right though, I just assumed that since Torrents seem to be the best method, they’d be at the top. But they’re down there, I’m just clueless. I’m already having success with the 1337 site other people recommended though, which is good to know about.
