2 of them are lincensed under BSD-3, so not open source. The the 3rd one uses Firebase, so no thanks.

Edit: BSD-3 is open source. I confused it with BSD-4. My bad.

It’s not by OSD definition. Having code source available =/ open source.

And most Lemmy clients I have seen use GPL or AGPL licences, so they couldn’t use code licensed under BSD.

Edit: This is incorrect. I confused it with BSD-4. My bad.

Anyone else remember Mozilla promising to open source Pocket 6 years ago?

As a result of this strategic acquisition, Pocket will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Mozilla Corporation and will become part of the Mozilla open source project.

Copyright and why it's broken. - Tom Scott ( www.youtube.com )

So recently there has been a lot of debate on AI-generated art and its copyright. I’ve read a lot of comments recently that made me think of this video and I want to highly encourage everyone to watch it, maybe even watch it again if you already viewed it. Watch it specifically with the question “If an AI did it, would it...

The way I see it AI is not replacing artists, it’s expanding access. People who didn’t hire an artist before, now can use an AI tool to generate something to add value to their creation (if they didn’t hire it in the first place, it’s not replaced anyone). And people who hired artists for originality and creativity will continue to do so. Biggest part of why someone hires an artist is the creative process and their ability to come up with the ideas.

The copyright was broken long before AI became mainstream, AI just shines a bright light on it. The only thing I’m afraid of is that whatever changes to the laws will be made will make it worse for consumers not better.

the alerts currently work only with AirTags, but Google says it will work with tag manufacturers to expand its coverage.

Google and Apple built the specification, but other tracker makers needs to adopt it.

That would be on brand for Musk, but I think he will stick with this one as it was his dream for a long time. After all he did buy back x.com domain from PayPal after he merged with PayPal back in the day.

fedidb.org/current-events/threadiverse has some stats, but take them with a grain of salt. It’s slowly growing overall, but certain subjects are more active than others.

They can scrape it now. Everything is publically available. But this data is not that valuable for them compareted to someone installing Threads, Instagram or Facebook app that has pretty much full access to your phone all it’s activities and information.

The bigger issue is that when they join ActivityPub, they will take advantage of existing content we generated and add their ads on that content for Threads users.

So worse RSS or am I missing something here?

You have to hunt for RSS feeds

That’s a big pro for me. I make my own feed instead of someone else deciding what I should read. And it’s not really hunting as it takes 10 sceconds to add a new feed. And a lot of clients have super useful features filters, tags, grouping, regex for automation, etc.

Estonia has been testing it since 2015, but their projected timeline for adoption never realized.
