Doesn't look any different than any other phone now

I really like my tall boi mark V so I'm a bit disappointed they're moving away from the 21:9 aspect ratio.

Cobrachickenwing , in Sony Xperia 1 VI review

Too bad no good trade in values. That is how Samsung continues to dominate in North America.

Nice to see a new flagship with a MicroSD slot and a headphone jack. Also, Sony have a good track record with opening up their Android phones.

But yeah, shame about the price.

As always, price is ridiculous

Ilandar ,

Although interestingly the price of the 10 series continues to fall quite significantly. I'm not quite sure what Sony's strategy is but it seems they are trying something at the moment.

I've never even heard of it. Anyway, use Graphene if you have a Pixel, and ideally DivestOS if you don't

helenslunch , in Android's photo picker will soon add a search function

Man they're really getting after it for Android 15...

Interesting, it appears they archived the github repos on may 19th after that tweet.

More ironic about them wiping your data considering they credit other ROMs! https://reddthat.com/pictrs/image/b4fcd2fc-e94f-49f5-b4c9-6fe9eaac10d8.jpeg

Once again, Sony decides to make stupid decisions with their midrange lineup.

cmgvd3lw , in Circle to Search may no longer be an Android exclusive, could come to Chrome on iOS

The thing is now a days smartphones are separated by only software. Pixels are a good example. They can give the camera tech to older devices but chose not to. Almost everything that can be achieved through s/w can be cross platform too, only if manufactures don't put virtual separation.

The article says "manufacturers" but then only mentions Samsung in the article....

Not exactly a surprise tbh because they have to compete with iPhone. And I bet it's only for flagship devices. I can't see the budget devices getting this.

erwan ,

That's typical clickbait: give a vague title to make people click.

ArtikBanana ,

Google is also giving support for its Pixel devices since the Pixel 8 line.
And their Pixel 8a is also going to get 7 years of support, which is neat.

Hopefully others follow.

soulfirethewolf , in Circle to Search may no longer be an Android exclusive, could come to Chrome on iOS

It's amusing how Google mentions stuff as being "exclusive to android" and then lies about it

limerod , in Prominent Android manufacturers commit to supporting phone software for 7 years

This is old news, 5 months old. I thought they meant more manufacturers apart from google and samsung.

I’m a iOS developer just lurking here but, are paid features in custom ROMs common? Since they’re all downstream of AOSP, wouldn’t it be possible to bypass anything like that fairly easily by just commenting out the paywalls and building the ROM yourself?

Welp_im_damned OP ,

No not really. Maybe the early access is paywalled. But that's usually it.
